It appears the long awaited and validated home test kits are now available for those that are convinced they need to know.

Short extract from the article

Coronavirus antibody tests designed for use at home are back on sale in the UK following months of wrangling over their regulatory approval and a temporary ban by the government in May.

The non-profit Testing For All has launched an at-home antibody testing kit for £39 using a finger-prick sampling kit manufactured by the Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche. Diagnostics company Better2Know is also selling an at-home test for £139, manufactured by UK pharmaceutical company Virus Respiratory Research.

Both test manufacturers validated their finger-prick tests — used to determine if Covid-19 antibodies are present in an individual’s bloodstream and whether or not they have had the virus — in August. The Better2Know tests also claim to provide information on the level of antibodies detected in the blood.

I received a letter from the NHS/government the other day asking if I'd take part in an anti-body test.

They stressed the results mean little on an individual basis, but helps them look at a collective.

None, but people were crying out for them when they weren't available. Convinced they had the virus in 2019

a town called malice

Not sure it is a cafe of needing to know, but I would possibly like to know if I have had this dam thing ( mostly as having had it and if any antibodies remain then I am slightly less risk of getting it again)

I have a friend who has a business in France and they had staff tested and found out 11 out of 14 they got tested had had it And there were another 10 members of staff who they couldn’t get tested as they were seasonal contractors and weren’t entitled to the free test but most of them had similar symptoms in early January

So has it for a use. Yes, is it really needed nope

My dentist is doing the finger prick test. If I wanted to know for sure, I would go to a clinic where they draw blood for the test.

If they really did have it in 2019 it is pretty unlikely they now have antibodies at a detectable level

If you take an antibody test, the results are not conclusive of whether you have had covid 19 or not.

The antibodies will only remain in the blood for a few months, after that they will most likely not show on a test.

The t cells however will remain and and will hopefully spring into action if you get reinfected and then produce antibodies.

Therefore unless it is quite recently that you feel you may have had it comedy antibody test will not be be able to give you conclusive results.

At least that is my current understanding of the antibody tests.

Its been proven Covid-19 occurred in at least one French patient in December 2019, after they retrospectively tested samples. Obviously it doesn't mean it was in the UK, but it was in Europe. It was circulating in China from approx late Nov 2019. The first cases in the UK were imported in the two Chinese tourists in York and that was late Jan 2020, so it has been known about and in the UK in some form before February. Our awareness of it increased in February, certainly.
