Will people listen to the government when they limit the no of visitors you can have in your home over Christmas and New Year? An important time of the yr for family and friend gatherings

They have already hinted at this and I believe it's going to happen

Just set up your webcam on the dinner table! Sure that'll be great. Oh and don't forget to splash bleach all over your presents before opening them... Xmas 2020 eh? Could it be any more dystopian?

A nurse told me ages ago that if people don't abide by the rules we'll have restrictions/and or total lockdown at Christmas.

They've already cancelled the winter wonderland in Hyde Park

Did I say it was? The point is that they aren't going to say "oh fuck it, it's Christmas, we'll just scrap all the guidelines for a couple of days then put them back in place." They will do what they do, irrespective of whether it's Christmas, Eid, Hanukkah or your Great Auntie Ethel's 100th birthday. If there are restrictions at Christmas, then people will have to decide whether to follow them or break the law. Anyone who criticised Muslim families for breaking the rules at Eid had better be ordering a tiny turkey for one, though.

Sure going to be a different one this year.

Love these Forums...So many with the English Football Loutish mentality.

If it isn't the Governments fault, it must be someones fault, who can i blame

If we decide to jump on a plane and go to the Med and the the rate goes up and the Government decide to bring in quarantine measures, It cannot be my fault for going away

If i want to go to a Party, why should I be stopped

It is one big con, lets blame it on 5G

If i want to carry on and meet others off here and have sex, I will and if i catch Covid or pass it to others, well that is what the NHS is there for.

Yep, we all know what to do come the election..lol..If the Others get it and we dont like what they do...Well bugger it we will blame someone else

Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men.

I'm confident the tory majority will be short lived after the way they have handled everything. The goverment is power mad. Even their own back benchers are already falling out and they haven't been in a full year.

Traditional supporters will return to labour.

The tories always shoot themselves in the foot and as a supporter I have seen enough to know that come 2024 I will vote labour for the first time.

The goverment work for us and it is our civic duty to get this lot out as soon as we can.

In Europe people (mainly youngsters, well under 40s) have all come home from partying on holiday at about the same time. Covid infections, but not deaths, are rising. At Christmas young people will come home from uni and party with family and old friends. Friends and families will party. "Lockdown fatigue" is rising and government messages confused, at best. This will result in a large rise in cases at the end of January. Most of these will be minor though.

Agree. Any restrictions that come in won't discriminate against any particular faith. Ostensibly it will be done on medical grounds. Easter was written off on that basis, which many Christians regard as a bigger deal than Christmas. If Christmas has to be affected, like Easter and Eid, it will be.

well to be honest if as many people have died as we are told santa won't have as many presents to deliver so I imagine using the same magic of how he manages to deliver all the presents in one night I'm guessing the time saved will be used for quarantine just going to have to remember to leave a mince pie some carrots for the rain deer and some hand sanitizer on the mantlepiece.

Compliance.

You can legislate, guide, threaten and even punish all you want but if you haven't got the consent of the population it just won't work.

Right now, that consent is waning, rapidly and with good reason. Dithering, ineptitude, U turns and lack of genuine leadership. No real exit strategy beyond hoping for a vaccine. No timeline.

How? Well by handing out 45 billion quids worth of contracts to bankrupt or shell companies with no turnover or means of production or even staff,to produce PPE . Something with which they have no experience . A billion quid to make a track and trace test which doesnt work, and the seeding of nursing homes with covid cases, with no special measures for staff working in them, Herd immunity strategy underpinned by some neio fascist eugenics ideas, means reduction of welfare bill, removal of employment protections, and bum up of returement age , means if your not dead , youll he a minimum wage slave til you drop. Thats how they will profit, the country will due on its arse but the nepotistic and unaccountable gov will ensure their time pays off handsomely

Absolutely, I would never, ever dream of flouting government rules.

I've already contacted family and others to say keep away at Christmas.

Speaking to Radio 1 Newsbeat, the health secretary pointed to France and Spain, "where that second wave started largely amongst younger people, it then spreads".

"And now we're seeing a sharp rise in the number of people in hospital and the number of people who are dying in those countries.

I think that is true in the usual circumstance, but when the government starts pushing “law” through parliament with no scrutiny, and people not only follow that law, but also take it upon themselves to implement that law via social outcasting, for example- it goes too far.

Ok I will rephrase, How many parties do you have in a normal year that doesn't have Covid in it for example last year / the year before etc etc? In between those parties does that mean you have an empty life?"

No- it’s precisely because of Covid restrictions that I’m bored out of my tiny little mind at the moment. I’m not sure what your point is?

"I have four children and we always have eight for Christmas Dinner. So this year do I tell my children their grandparents can't come ? Tell my daughter to come but not her husband so one grandparent can come? Send my son to his girlfriend's so both grandparents can come ?"

Its going to be difficult for sure. But everyone understands why... Maybe not little kids but adults do. There's a lot can happen between now and Xmas though, like unis restarting... So I'm not stressing about xmas just yet.

"Will people listen to the government when they limit the no of visitors you can have in your home over Christmas and New Year? An important time of the yr for family and friend gatherings

They have already hinted at this and I believe it's going to happen

I hope people will listen and do what they are supposed to do ...cant believe people are so stupid as it is with the masks etc etc its not going to kill u to have a different quieter Christmas for one year but the virus might just kill or effect a loved ones health that they don't see another christmas

If I had a choice between one last Christmas party with my friends and family, and dying on the 26th, or living an empty life for the rest of my days, i would choose the blow out every time. We have some pretty awesome Christmas parties though, so I appreciate not everyone has the same Christmas experience x

You say your life would be empty if you couldn't party, I asked in a normal year without the mention of Covid, is your life empty the times you don't party

And I keep answering - so perhaps we are both not explaining ourselves properly - no, in my day to day life prior to Covid I would see so many people in the course of a day I would sometimes wish that people would leave me alone for five minutes!! Now I will be lucky to see another adult once in a day if I organise it. The now time is not comparable to the before time. I see what you are getting at, but I can’t give you any other answer than I already have. No life was not dull in the before time. Now it is. What more do you want me to say?

There were over 20 people at last years Christmas. It’s envisaged that their would be another 2 more at least this year.

Exactly- My family and friends usually come from all over the world to celebrate Christmas together. Apparently that’s dull to look forward to though

Please don't encourage her!

I have a cunning plan.

We always go to my mums for Christmas, now if I don't go but let hubby take the kids, mum stays within the magic 6.

And its a win win situation, I have a nice quiet Christmas, just me and the Gin, and I won't have to see my sister.

I am speaking with fork tongue today it seems. Start again

You say all you want to do is live your life now as normal....are you going to be living your life as before or stick to living as normal but take precautions to help stop the Covid from spreading, for example, keep your distance from someone when trying to live a normal life

The message I get is that people have given the government their consent to make changes to their way of life in order to combat the threat of covid.

What they are unhappy about is that the govt has abused it's trust with this consent and has introduced rules with no scientific fact or basis which forcefully take away people's rights and liberties.

Right, so in my normal day to day life I like my personal space. Because of this social distancing hasn't been an issue for me.

I am very skeptical about the effectiveness of masks. Yet wear one in enclosed spaces out of respect for other's.

However as stated on another thread we are hearing with increased frequency that this is endemic. So my question to people (that very few are answering) is do we live like this forever if it is proved it is.

Because that doesn't sound very appealing to me.

I don't think it is endemic going by the stats who are getting it at the moment, it just causes more problems for some people ( not just old and people with conditions )

But yes, we had the same conversation the other day, how long do we live like this ? Our life will be fine for what we do to be honest and it doesn't bother me with the distancing and masks either, there are a couple of things I miss doing but I will live.... but I went out the other day and realised just how much life seems to be on hold still. People are going to get fed up sooner rather than later ( some obviously already are ) so I don't know how much longer the restrictions should go on for. On the other hand I am going to contradict myself and say, without the restrictions we may never get rid / limit it.

All in all..a bit of a nightmare

See I'm 40 years old and there are a lot of things I miss. The people I feel sorry for are the 16-30 year olds. It's not just about us it's about everyone. We seem to be happy to sacrifice the lives of the young to protect the lives of the vulnerable. That sort of logic doesn't sit well with me, especially if this does end up being endemic. I don't want kids coming up to me in years to come saying what was it like at a festival (for example)

The things I miss are something that isn't allowed to be open / held yet.

I don't think what we enjoy or festivals will be gone forever that children would ask what they were, we will enjoy them again, we just don't know when

Once upon a time it was possible to denounce a woman as a witch, laws forbid such practices now. What you want may not be possible. As a society, we don't go backwards, only forward. This is a period of change that nobody wanted, but here we are.

Using terms like hiding away are emotive, to borrow a star trek expression, it's life but not as we know it.

For me I don’t like xmas and use it as a time to go to watch football. This year I was planning to see mates in Leicester but with caveats.

We are a family of 3 with my brother and his fiancée could accommodate us to make it 5 under the current rules but we couldn’t stay overnight

The only issue now is that her family can’t have a get together. 3 sisters,3 partners, 2 parents and 2 children. So it is going to affect larger families for sure

What the same government that told you a few weeks ago we need to get the economy going and we'll pay half for you to eat out!

The same government that says it's dangerous to have groups of more than 6 unless you're at work, school, playing team sports, funerals, weddings or youth groups when it's not.

Not one to defend this most moronic of governments, but that’s not what they are saying, that’s the way people want to interpret it to excuse their behaviour... oh well, the government doesn’t make sense, licence to go and do as we please guilt free.
