It's a fixed penalty, pay up and shut up, nobody knows and who's going to boast about getting their wallet lightened by a grand

I understand he had tested positive after coming home from somewhere in Spain but still decided to go out socialising despite the fact he was supposed to quarantine and so God only knows how many people he has infected....what an idiot!

Idiot is not the word i would use. Someone who has actually tested positive, who knows they are positive, who has been told to quarantine, who deliberately breaks that quarantine? This is exactly the same as a person who is knowingly hiv positive having bareback sex and deliberately infecting others. I would go further and say it's like that hiv positive person leaving a trail of jiz everywhere they go, infecting dozens without them having any idea they might be in danger. It is not just idiotic, it is knowingly endangering the health of many. This is not accidental spread by a person who was unaware that they had it, this is deliberate contamination. If anybody became ill as a result of this person, they should be prosecuted for actual bodily harm. If anybody died because of catching the virus from this person, they should be prosecuted for manslaughter.

Quarantine breakers should not just be hit with massive fines, they should be forced to take full responsibility for their actions. Up to and including murder charges if appropriate.

"

The thing is, if people he had contact with later tested positive is there a scientific way of proving their infection came directly from him? Or could they have picked it up in another setting such as work, shopping etc. Any evidence against an individual would probably be circumstantial.

Reckless transmission of HIV carries a maximum 5 year prison sentence so I think introducing this for covid might prove to be a better deterrent.

It appears that he tested positive after coming home so may have been unaware he may have had it during his social butterflying however the £1000 fine was issued by Police for breaking the isolation regs........ and they have issued another £1000 fine to someone else. People like this have no regard whatsoever for the damage they are doing by keeping this virus alive and spreading.
