"I am only there 5 nights so even if it gets added to the list next Thursday I will be home before 4am the next Saturday so won't need to quarantine" You might have got it whether you arrived back in the UK at 3.55am or 4.05am . The risk to the UK public health is not determined by a watch .

"There is risk to public health through high infection rates in Manchester (as an example) but the government haven't shut the pubs and restaurants there. " Indeed. Quarantine from foreign travel needs to be ended. It's ridiculous.

"All incoming flights should be quarentine and the person presented with the cost at the end of there cheap holiday might stop idiots booking flights just cos they think it’s there right to have a holiday whilst people. Are dying around them " There's discussion about the government paying for nice hotel rooms and full board to make it more attractive to quarantine

"Starting to think it'd be easier to just put a blanket 14 day rule in place for all incoming trave and save the piecemeal announcements..." or get the plan Heathrow has offered up and running. I'm off again in a few weeks and going regardless. I accept going away that I may have to quarantine

"I may be wrong but I thought the advice was not to travel unless essential. Holidays are essential to some and not others... " And it's just advice, not law. People will still travel.

"Having recently got back from France, and currently on day 5 of quarantine, I really have to question the usefulness of the 14 day quarantine. I had to fill out the Govt passenger contact form online no earlier than 48 hours prior to returning to the UK. The form starts off by asking for a telephone number (fair enough), then you have to select one of the following options: A) I can be contacted via telephone or text B) I can only be contacted by telephone C) I can only be contacted by text D) I cannot be contacted by telephone or text. Given that the form says "you may be contacted by a phonecall or text message to verify you are quarantining".... " Well presumably if say only text then they won't try to call you and visa versa

No-one was checking forms when I got back.

"It's the last option I query, I cannot be contacted by telephone or text Kind of negates the whole quarantine purpose really. The uncertainty of being contacted if you choose to break it." If you choose the last option then you have to say why in another text box. They would then presumably contact you through you alternative contact entry.
