No I don't.

Just because there's a loophole it doesn't make it acceptable or safe to take advantage of it.

There is no loophole. From experience of filling in the "return to the uk" form you must state all countries you have visited, along with the dates.

You must isolate / quarantine for 14 days after leaving a non exempt country.

To do anything different is both irresponsible and illegal, whatever we think if the rules.

No. Whilst the travel quarantine could be better targeted for people flying from high risk reguons, instead of parts of a country with negligible risk, it's a legal requirement to accurately inform the UK authorities what your destination was. Thers are fines for not isolating and I imagine that making a false official submission to them, that could damage lives of others, would be a more serious offense

Testing for arrivals may be trialled soon. By travelling to another lower risk country, before returning to the UK, one is putting even more people at risk.

It is better not to travel anywhere if you can't fulfil 2 weeks quarantine, as rules can change without notice.

IT systems may trace the location of where the passport holder is submitting the travel notice. They may also want to retrieve other data that pinpoints where you have been.

I know someone who is going to collect her kids this weekend who are currently in France with their grandparents. She is flying into Italy and her dad is driving over the border to collect her then same on way back as she doesn't want her kids to miss going back to school on time.

What is legal and what some people do are not the same thing

I was reading the rules today as I may need to travel for work. In this scenario, and that of the OP, they would still need to quarantine when they arrive back in the UK.

It's not a loop hole. As long as they have been to France they have to. Doesn't matter if they have entered it via another country. What they mean is its not traceable. They clearly have low respect for other peoples health. What a joke.

But it’s fine for people to break rules because they don’t want to make any changes to their plans ? I know which I think is sad and it’s not the OP

I would happily report them to the authorities.

Rules are there for a reason.
