Galaxy Far Far Away

The covid symptom study is reporting 1434 new cases daily at the moment...not sure if these all involve tests though or these are presenting with symptoms but I guess it'll be in this region

It depends how many people have it while tested but usually its more than infected as some give a false positive still.

This virus, the most deadly virus in our lifetime, is so dangerous you don’t even know you have it unless you have a test that comes back positive. And even then it might be a false positive so you might think you have it, but not have it. Every day they massage the figures, test one person in three separate ways and that counts as three tests, that’ll be counted as three new cases When you turn on the propaganda news channel that is the BBC. Wake up and look for the news, don’t just take for granted what they spoon feed you.

The reason its more deadly than a lot as some people don't show symptoms so it can spread without people noticing. Its not as deadly as many other viruses out there not by far but its the most widely spread virus in over 100 years. The worst thing though about it is the bullshit and false information some people spread while talking out of their arse without any real knowledge. And we all know a little knowledge is a dangerous tool in the hands of an undereducated fool.

The mortality rate is 0.0026% (from ONS and NHS websites). The mortality rate for swine flu whenever that was, can’t remember off hand, was 0.024% and very similar for seasonal flu in I think 2018 (Also from the same sources). The daily figures the government have been quoting for deaths, until this week, has included everyone that tested positive and subsequently died from any cause as dying from covid-19. Even if they died from cancer, a heart attack, in a fire, car crash...any cause of death following a positive CV-19 test is classified as being due to covid. However, this week they put a 28 day limit on that so if you test positive in the past 28 days and die, literally from anything, you died from covid. Think about that. And now, the daily figures are not covid -19 figures, they’re corona virus figures. This might seem a little irrelevant but the importance of this is that the common cold and seasonal flu are all corona viruses so you can test positive for a cold and die in a plane crash and still be counted as a “corona virus” death. But, since you’re so well informed, you probably know all that

Most hospitals running at 40% the test doesn't pick up covid19 but the remains of the RNA protein. Now they are saying that protein could be part of some peoples lungs due to damage at some time. They just chasing shadows and don't know how to go, time to just let nature take it course. Death rate now about 50 a week they think

From gov.uk

Deaths in all settings

From 29 April, figures for deaths included all cases where there is a positive confirmed test for coronavirus. The figures include deaths with lab-confirmed COVID-19 in all settings, not just those in hospital, and this provides us with a single figure on an equivalent basis for the whole of the UK. This measure was updated on 12 August to apply a time limit of 28 days between date of test and date of death.

These UK figures are compiled from validated data provided by each of the four nations of the UK. Figures from Health Protection Scotland, Public Health Wales and the Public Health Agency (Northern Ireland) have always included tested cases outside hospital. Figures for England from 29 April onwards are provided by Public Health England and draw together several different data sources, including data from NHS England and Improvement, to produce this broader measure.

The key part is “where there is a positive confirmed test for coronavirus.” It then goes on to say including deaths with confirmed CV19. I agree it’s a play on words but it’s deliberately worded that way to cause confusion.

And someone correct me if I'm wrong but the flu is not a coronavirus...."

I stand corrected. But any positive test for a coronavirus ,of which there are many, are counted as positive cases.

Here we go again.

Mortality rate is something you calculate when a pandemic is over and you know how many people died out of a certain catchment area.

Case Fatality Rate tells how many people who have tested positive have succumbed to the virus.

The two are completely different since the former tells you more about how widely it has spread and the latter tells you how deadly it is.

"So in the last 24 hours out of the 169,276 tests done, sent out etc (however they count it) 713 came back positive, but seeing as it's an easy thing to find out,I'm gathering there is more to your question.... "

Interestingly the WHO sets a target of 97% specitivity on the pcr test which means that if not one person in the uk had covid and you test 169,276 people, the test could falsely report that about 5000 people had the virus. So you can see that even if the virus is eradicated, the government will still be reporting positive tests. Even if the test had a specitivity of 99.9% 169,276 tests would falsely report 169 positive results.

The case fatality rate doesn't tell you how deadly it is because it doesn't include the people who were asymptomatic and were not tested. The infection fatality rate tells you that.

You’ll confuse people with pcr tests.

I just meant that you’ll confuse some people with that terminology. I’m not medically trained by any means but I do know what a pcr test is and I don’t think the majority of people will have heard of it.

I'm sure that if they get a positive test they re-test the individual thereby squaring or cubing the specificity. In the uk we just get the basic stats.

"To all the fab experts and number cruchers.

Do any of you know how many covid tests come back positive?"

That will be the number of new daily infections. For today :

Scotland 26

NI 39

Wales 14

England 634

What I think you're actually looking for is the percentage of positive tests.

It varies by country but for the UK as a whole 0.421% of tests carried out today (17th) were positive.

"This virus, the most deadly virus in our lifetime, is so dangerous you don’t even know you have it unless you have a test that comes back positive.

It depends how many people have it while tested but usually its more than infected as some give a false positive still. "

And some give false negative. And lots of asymptomatic dont even get tested.....basically a guessing game!
