When you're as ugly as I am any excuse to wear a mask is an opportunity that can't be missed. Better to keep 'em guessing.

I'm only in favour of face coverings in situations where social distancing is impossible (such as on crowded trains, tubes and buses).

In other situations (such as in shops, places of worship and museums) I don't think they have any positive effect at all.

No, because it's very possible to keep far enough apart.

I think the majority of transmissions in these places are through touch and surface contact.

Got to be said - lots of people thinking they can be an expert by reading Facebook.

Wear a mask; there's evidence it helps both parties, it makes others feel safe, and even 4 months into a pandemic, there's lots of people left to infect.

Actually I think there is every reason to bring religion into it, in this instance. France, for example, banned the wearing of the burqa in public places. They then enforce a law to make everyone wear face coverings in public places, but do not repeal the law on the burqa. Which is a face covering. It doesn’t make any sense.

You either accept face coverings or you don’t- if you discriminate against religious clothing and then champion the same type of cover up as law........... well I’m not happy with that. Are you?

This is so true. It wasn't so long ago that a guy got a fine for refusing to remove face covering in a camera recognition zone. Now it's the law to wear one.

Aren't burqas more a cultural thing? Even if they were religious, they cover more of the face, they are not being worn for medical reasons, they are not worn for a purpose which potentially saves lives. There's really no comparison.

Actually this is a serious problem. Last night, a gang of youths came on the train at the same time as my son, and accosted him on the local supermarket car park as he walked home. They threatened him with a knife, stole his bag including house keys, money and travel pass and then apparently continued to harass other people locally throughout the night.

Cctv at the supermarket is pointless because their faces were covered.

He's angry, shaken up but pleased that he wasn't with his girlfriend. Other parents locally have said their daughters were threatened, man handled and sexual comments made to them, until one of the gang got cold feet and the girl ran into a local restaurant. The gang were in trouble outside pubs, McDonald's etc but all the CCTV is pointless and no one could ID them properly in a line up. Mask wearing has its obvious benefits but it's also potentially very dangerous.

Near Carmarthen

Completely against muzzles.

There is no strong scientific evidence for their use.

The Government's own recent review, Published by Public Health England (26th June) on mask wearing says that the evidence that they are beneficial is weak.

Of course, if masks are effective capturing (supposedly lethal) viruses, as claimed, where are all the biohazard disposal points as used masks seem to be quite happily filling up waste bins, dust bins, public transport seats, city centres, rivers and beaches?

Thank you for taking the issue of people threatening others with knives and making threats of sexual violence to young girls seriously. I hope your kids, if you have any, do not come home in the state my 17yo son did (minus the keys, as his bag had been nicked).

"I’m sad to hear about your son. This is a swingers site and a virus forum subsection though.... "

The conversation had turned to the issue of mask wearing vs burqas etc. That didn't seem very swinger-y or virus-y either. Your very valid point that masks are no different to burqas and whoever mentioned removing motorcycle helmets put in the connection with the crime that occurred last night.

Don't break the rules:

Threads containing racism, threats, nasty stuff like that will be removed and the posters banned or given timeouts. We also don't want discussions of serious illegal subjects like rate, child abuse, illegal drugs because inevitably someone will post about their own crimes / experiences of crimes and we can get hauled up in court to provide evidence. We do this for fun and we don't want the hassle, sorry.

"Actually this is a serious problem.

At least there was no chance of them passing on the virus to him, so ok for the greater good.

I like that the thugs of today are taking health and safety measures seriously!! Very socially responsible young men!"

Over here in Gran Canaria’s , masks are worn everywhere . In the shops, streets , bars, cafes, churches , transport, on the beach, walking round the hotel grounds and everywhere else you can think of. It’s 35 degrees and no one complains. They just get on with it. We haven’t seen anyone in a shop as yet not wearing one. So maybe the people who can’t wear masks don’t go shopping over here.

I've been wearing one since the beginning to be fair. As I'd been in Europe when it first started coming to light and everyone insisted there.

I've spent the past week nearly in Sicily and its common practice to wear one in any enclosed space or public transport. Even the open top bus to Etna you had to sanitise your hands on the way on and off and masks had to be worn x

"Just put the mask on!

How much of a hardship is it really....

To me none at all.

To my mrs a massive hardship as she cant breath in one.so if she cant breath properly she's a high risk in caughting the virus..better use mask..

And if people moan about the mask imagine all the NHS personal.who have to use full PPE for 12 hours....its just a mask and it saves lives...

She has had the virus we both have.

Oh fuck it then, do what you want. "
