"Coronavirus: Major incident declared in Greater Manchester after COVID-19 rise this is not looking good up north lets hope they throw the same money at it as they did in london ..stay safe people" thats may not be as dramatic as it sounds... it may be just that a particular hospital are diverting people away due to circumstances so its an alert for the public not to call 999 unless absolutely necessary.. weston-super-mare nhs trust for example did the same thing a few months ago when half there A&E staff when down in a suspected covid outbreak so they had to close it down i know that at least one london nhs trust has done the same thing....

" Its on BBC. Doesn't seem to change anything and is a formality to trigger certain responses from the Police, local councils and other agencies.

"What then is the major incident?" The revised Covid restrictions. The major incident opens up a series of options to the powers that be to co-ordinate responses and police the new restrictions.

"Local council locked down parts of Liverpool very impressed with the council" I think this is the way things will have to be for awhile, jump quickly and decisively on areas where there is an issue and get it under control asap.

"Local council locked down parts of Liverpool very impressed with the council" Nowhere in Liverpool is under increased lockdown. Halesowen and Knotty Ash have enhanced testing implemented due to a spike, but nothing different applies in those areas than any other area of Merseyside. Yet.

"There was an article this morning in the Mail from a professor who pointed out that the number of tests in the North West had increased over the same period and the number of increased positives had gone up in line with the number of tests, so actually there is no spike. This will become apparent when the number of hospital admissions and deaths doesn't rise. The article has now mysteriously disappeared from the Mail news feed." This would not be surprising.

I had heard that many of the increases are to do with increased testing as now you dont even need to have symptoms to get a test
