"Family Member who is in BBC Radio has been on London Oxford Street since early today and she says: 'Not seen a shop where people are not wearing them yet'. She also saw a woman going into 'a famous chain' and was told by a doorman wear one or you are not going in'. She said that she had not had time to buy one. 'You have had two weeks'. Said he. She hrrrrmphd and left. Also: Same chain. All the staff are wearing masks - she asked why and they said they had all agreed to set a 'Good Example'. " She didn't need to buy one. She only needed a face covering eg a scarf.

I'm masking, staying away from people, etc. I'm not helping the economy by sitting at home, but if we all distance hard where we can, we'll help the economy long term by being able to get back to normal sooner.

"Puppet media hacks keep talking about the “science” behind masks while refusing to quote the actual science on masks. Weird" I've given you links to the "proven science" on other threads bit you choose to spread your lack of faith regardless. Here's a little quote from the American Chemical Society, The last few lines is all you need to focus on, and don't forget to check that laboratory comparison of different materials I suggested previously. Use Google wisely ... The emergence of a pandemic affecting the respiratory system can result in a significant demand for face masks. This includes the use of cloth masks by large sections of the public, as can be seen during the current global spread of COVID-19. However, there is limited knowledge available on the performance of various commonly available fabrics used in cloth masks. Importantly, there is a need to evaluate filtration efficiencies as a function of aerosol particulate sizes in the 10 nm to 10 µm range, which is particularly relevant for respiratory virus transmission. We have carried out these studies for several common fabrics including cotton, silk, chiffon, flannel, various synthetics, and their combinations. Although the filtration efficiencies for various fabrics when a single layer was used ranged from 5 to 80% and 5 to 95% for particle sizes of 300 nm and 300 nm, respectively, the efficiencies improved when multiple layers were used and when using a specific combination of different fabrics. Filtration efficiencies of the hybrids (such as cotton–silk, cotton–chiffon, cotton–flannel) was 80% (for particles 300 nm) and 90% (for particles 300 nm). We speculate that the enhanced performance of the hybrids is likely due to the combined effect of mechanical and electrostatic-based filtration. Cotton, the most widely used material for cloth masks performs better at higher weave densities (i.e., thread count) and can make a significant difference in filtration efficiencies. Our studies also imply that gaps (as caused by an improper fit of the mask) can result in over a 60% decrease in the filtration efficiency, implying the need for future cloth mask design studies to take into account issues of “fit” and leakage, while allowing the exhaled air to vent efficiently. Overall, we find that combinations of various commonly available fabrics used in cloth masks can potentially provide significant protection against the transmission of aerosol particles.

"I can't wear one as I'm asthmatic and claustrophobic Can you still wear the mask in your November 2014 pic ?" The mask only covers the top half of my face so doesn't affect my breathing. I only wore it for a short time as anxiety was setting in. It was just for pictures really. Not that I should have to explain myself

"When has it been against the rules to wear a mask for a photo. " Of course it isn't against the rules to wear a mask in a pic. Just odd when someone says they have claustrophobia and can't wear a mask to see a pic of them wearing one.

"Went to my local shop and Asda earlier and the vast majority were wearing face coverings of some sort. However, there's very few people who in reality couldn't wear a face covering of some sort. I work with a woman with severe asthma who has no problem with a mask, she just needed the right kind. Failing that you could use a face shield. The are people who will have a very real problem with face coverings, such those with certain mental health problems. Different styles make a big difference I found. I made a few types and found which works OK for me. I also saw shop customers with face shields and no mask. Seemed to work well. Yep. I bought a fancy washable one with removable filters. It was shit. Far to hot when on and the nose piece has removed most of the skin from the bridge of my nose. The disposible white ones seem to work better. " I got one of the thin stretchy poundshop masks as a back up and they are good too. Need better ones for some closer scenarios. Agree about the nose bridge. I'll spend ages making new masks and they will change the rules again.

"I am wearing a mask. I am washing my hands. Question. Do people realise the long term psychological implications of everyone else around us wearing them. Not asking for a yes but. Might die response etc. As I said I'm wearing one everywhere. I'm asking if we all realise the long term effects. Why would we know as this is unique situation And yes I will say it open your eyes die is a worst symptoms WHERE ALL THIS IN IT TOGETHER or are we? Masks will help should have happened months ago" Dying isn't a worse case symptom in this. There are worse. Yes we do. China and Japan have been wearing masks for years so this isn't a new situation.

"The fact is as someone stated on another thread, there is a form available from the direct.gov website which allows anyone to print thier own exemption. That is a loophole which no doubt will be exploited. If someone is not wearing a mask they are under no obligation to tell anyone of non authority the reasons why. Fair point but don't make out THEIR ALL IN IT TOGETHER as, stated you don't want to get cov19 with asthma so a mask is, a sensible approach "

"It's, a, question don't pretend to be in it all together if they are finding loopholes or ignoring rules. Asking a, question is fair " You make a fair point, there seems to be a cottage industry of people trying to find the many loopholes and inconsistencies in the rules that are there for yours and mine protection and health. (not saying there are some situations or individuals who are unable to) but some of the "reasons" are very much in the dog ate my homework mould. You don't have to look very hard to find excuses if you want to. Well done to you if that makes you feel better. But equally you don't have to try very hard to wear one either.

" I didn't say it wouldn't help I just can't breathe properly in them and get panic attacks" I know what you mean. A headscarf is also ok and is thinner and easier for breathing. Try short periods around the house then for longer. Try not to make a big deal if it in your head. I know that’s easy to say but I promise it works.

" This is what I did, wandering around at home to get used to it, I went through a fair few styles of facemask to find one I was comfortable in, a few made me feel quite suffocated as when I breathed in the were sucked towards my mouth but found I style I'm happy with and feel do much more comfortable shopping when wearing one. I really do think it's trial and error to find what works, ultimately, the best thing you can do for yourself and others.

"Being asthmatic is not an automatic exemption for not wearing a face mask which is probably why people are being challenged about it. 3. When you do not need to wear a face covering In settings where face coverings are required in England, there are some circumstances, for health, age or equality reasons, where people are not expected to wear face coverings. Please be mindful and respectful of such circumstances, noting that some people are less able to wear face coverings, and that the reasons for this may not be visible to others. It is not compulsory for shop or supermarket staff or transport workers to wear face coverings (see section 6), although employers may consider their use where appropriate and where other mitigations are not in place. Employers should continue to follow COVID-19 Secure guidelines to reduce the proximity and duration of contact between employees. You do not need to wear a face covering if you have a legitimate reason not to. This includes (but is not limited to): young children under the age of 11 (Public Health England do not recommended face coverings for children under the age of 3 for health and safety reasons) not being able to put on, wear or remove a face covering because of a physical or mental illness or impairment, or disability if putting on, wearing or removing a face covering will cause you severe distress if you are travelling with or providing assistance to someone who relies on lip reading to communicate to avoid harm or injury, or the risk of harm or injury, to yourself or others to avoid injury, or to escape a risk of harm, and you do not have a face covering with you to eat or drink if reasonably necessary in order to take medication if a police officer or other official requests you remove your face covering There are also scenarios when you are permitted to remove a face covering when asked: if asked to do so in a bank, building society, or post office for identification if asked to do so by shop staff or relevant employees for identification, the purpose of assessing health recommendations, such as a pharmacist, or for age identification purposes including when buying age restricted products such as alcohol if speaking with people who rely on lip reading, facial expressions and clear sound. Some may ask you, either verbally or in writing, to remove a covering to help with communication" And you have just proved the point. She is under no obligation to tell you the reason why she doesn't wear a mask. She can do what she likes with her own body. As someone stated above you are deliberately picking on the person with absolutely no clue of thier physical or mental state.
