Normality for Christmas?

Social distancing potentially to end in November and a return to some kind of normality for Christmas, according to the guy who's led a fair few crises through the last few months. Sure

With the experts seemingly pointing to a somewhat more precarious future, including possibly greater levels of infection through this winter, I'm not a doom monger, though inclined to perceive things will fall closer to the experts' perceptions of what may come.

Positive progress sees several vaccines progressing through their development trial processes, with some promising early results.

We don’t think it’ll be back to normal that soon.

So many people out there congregating/mixing... Opening pubs was rushed and the ‘R’ rate has gone up.

Also still allowing flights in from the US (and you can see what a mess that has become)

Which 1 was that?

The Oxford vaccine is likely to have results published this coming week. The American vaccine seems at a similar level, both producing an immune respons. There's a Chinese vaccine too, though I know less of it. The first 2 are seemingly going for stage 3 trials, to determine efficacy, the required dosage level and frequency etc.

"Normality" is a vague term; and whatever it was, the vast majority of us will not be returning to it - for a whole host of reasons beyond our control.

The higher the R rate the faster covid is spreading

"What has the R rate got to do with it?"

It's a way of measuring how fast a disease is spreading.

R=1. a sufferer passes it onto 1 other person.

R= less than 1. the progression is dropping

R= greater than one, Your overall number will go up. The Higher the number the faster it will spread and in an exponential fashion.

As previously mentioned normality is sublective.

If you've lost someone during this period then normality is a far cry.

Until a clear and defining vaccine breakthrough then life will not be the same for anyone.

We're in a period of adjustment.

Spanish Flu lasted for two years but fizzled out.

HIV/AIDS is still with us but able to be managed.

Humans are extremely good at adapting. But when you're in the middle of it you can't see the end. Everything seems uncertain.

But over time COVID will be normalised and just another risk which we don't really think about.

How many worry about the dangers of driving when in their cars?

You made a statement that the vaccine failed? Then didn't say which one. And didn't respond to people asking you which one. Why say stuff if you don't know what your talking about. Everyone's pretty pissed off with this virus but it's now life, sticking a spanner in the works just for something to say.

I think it's dangerous that the ending of social distancing was covered, as it makes it lessen the importance of it, when it's a key tool to reduce potential speed. We know already that a few have had problems sticking to it, so need to keep emphasis on it.

The undefined normality for Christmas gives me no hope. It's possibly him preparing the masses to go out spending, as all will be standard again

The problem here is that the effects of Covid 19 while unprecedented in the UK are not knew to some parts of the world. There have been multiple strains of Coronavirus of which Covid 19 is the latest. Each strain is more contagious than the last. Globally Covid 19 has been much more devastating than its predecessors but this is likely to pale into insignificance compared to future strains.

It could be argued that it would have been better to ignore Covid 19 and let the population be reduced. This is a natural occurrence which has come about because the earth is overpopulated and has spread through the densely populated areas thinning out the excess population to restore the natural balance.

You can fight nature but only for so long. If you beat Covid 19, then the next strain will be along in a couple of years and will be harder to beat. Sooner or later we will lose to nature and nature will retake control of the earth.

Much of human behaviour and its effects are avoidable. We don't have to endlessly expand our cities, intruding into pristine wildlife zines, such as rainforests. We don't have to pursue ongoing destruction of rainforests full stop, just to plant more monoculture crops, such as palm oil, or for livestock raising.

We are cluelessly led by many with myopic vision, who care not for the ethical consequences of the harm that they do.

We could sustain this population level, with resources to spare, if we lived more intelligently. There's lots of potential for us to have healthier lives, not forcing the likely species jumping of diseases, to which we have no historical immune response.

Some people are back to normal now, the updates page is swamped with people looking for meets and I doubt they'll be socially distanced meets. Also competitive 5 a side grass roots football starts again next month, I know as I play 5 a side football and that starts next month.

Social distancing will fizzle out, yes people will still catch covid but hopefully by then it will be highly treatable and only an extremely low number of people will catch it ????
