Masks . . . I did put this in another post but it needs a place of its own . . .

Most people are NOT wearing masks right now.

Trip to IKEA and Marks and Spencer and Boots and B&Q and Fuel and Abakhan in Liverpool in the last two days went like this:

IKEA: Waited about 20mins in outdoor Q's of about 50 couples/groups in front & behind us,

= Only about 5 masks in total. Not including us.

------------------------

Staff in IKEA of about 10 we saw,

= 2 Masks.

------------------------

Mark and Spencer:

No Q's. and 'ish @ a guess maybe 60/70 customers,

= 8 Masks. Not including us.

Staff in Marks and Spencer,

= 5 Masks.

------------------------

B&Q:

No Q's only one other customer wearing a mask excluding us.

Not one member of staff with a mask.

They are still wiping trolley hand-rails outside.

Their one-way system (though marked on the floor) is not operating now, just go where you like. Tills are taking cash again with hand-to-hand swopping of change and till receipts.

------------------------

Fuel Asda:

Saw no masks or gloves on anyone at all including customers and staff.

------------------------

Abakhan in Liverpool:

Saw about 3 masks of about 40 customers across two floors.

Tills are using hand-to-hand swopping of receipts, though taking card payments only.

------------------------

The parking meters in Liverpool are taking coins. Which obviously means the buttons etc are NOT being wiped by wandering city staff.

In total. Nobody is really wearing anything at all. Didn't mention gloves because we didn't see any.

StarBucks drive-thru was funny - at the window everything is proper and safe, slide-out-trays for your drinks and snax, card machine on a pole for your card-payments only - very chatty and delightful staff - then they got a drink wrong so she said park in the wait-zone and we will bring it to you. 5 mins later a member of staff brought us our 'lost' drink while wearing no gloves no mask and hanging onto the door/window of the car and asking us what we were doing with the rest of our day - from about a foot away.

Until the new Law come into effect - ESSENTIALLY NOBODY IS WEARING MASKS !!!!

I'm temping in a supermarket. I'm not wearing one. I would if my role involved sitting/standing in place. But having my specs fog up while I'm dragging a 250kg cage round the shop floor is not safe. Keep having to take them off to wipe them, is far more spread risk. They're only any use untill they're damp. About 20mins while working.

"Why would you go to these shops during a pandemic? "

Because life demands that we do the other thing. But why some say do we choose to go to IKEA, because it is there, we choose to go to IKEA not because it is easy, but because it is hard, because that goal will serve our energy and skills and because it is a challenge that we are willing to accept . . . and one that we are un-willing to postpone . . .

Masks in shoos have been introduced in an attempt to get scared people to go shopping and spend money..

Like the go back to your office /place of work (and spend in doing so)

IN MY OPINION it’s all bollocks.

Nobody really knows what will keep us healthy, it’s about keeping us calm. A hand sanitiser, social distancing, a paper mask...

If the world got together and China was actually held accountable for all this though....

(It’s not as if it’s the first time these viruses emerged from there! What will they send next?)

Eighty years ago Hitler was looking at this type of thing, apparently.....

I wonder whether the fact that it's been introduced so late, like most of the other measures, including airport quarantine that then got reversed for dozens of countries, as well as after a number of people in power who've ignored or interpreted things in their favour, have all turned off much of the public from the issues that we still face. If masks were to be viewd as more important, they should have probably been introduced with just a couple of days notice.

There are obviously some people who don't want to wear them for ideological reasons. They're a minority, so a distracting sideshow

Not sure how widely its being rolled out yet. But theres a mist which protects surfaces for up to 30 days. Which would be a good thing for parking machines, public loos, etc.

We are getting it for our work place.

As for the masks, most people are waiting I think. I was but I will probably mask up from now on. I'll have to get over the issue of the masks rendering me blind somehow haha.

I have a bug bear with masks! Most people arent using them effectively and they're probably putting themselves at risk from poor hygiene and cross contamination. Theres an actual full process to putting on and taking off masks. The government should be release guidance on how to do it right.

I think you've just proven that it's way too late to introduce masks now. Most people have it or have already had it without knowing. As you said, parking meters, shop doors, handles, road crossing buttons, shopping trollies/baskets, cash machines, money etc... The barn doors are wide open and the horse has long gone.

Marches, protests, packed beaches, these have all happened and cannot now be reversed.

It's time we accept this and gear all the NHS services towards those that need it and let the healthy get back to work and school. Without the economy we have nothing.

"Most people are NOT wearing masks right now.

"

All the parking meters, lift buttons etc. In Singapore, in April they started spraying all public housing lift buttons at least with a spray self disinfectant that leaves a molecular layer which continues to work for 3 months... link to Singapore Times... https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/self-disinfecting-coating-that-lasts-for-3-months-applied-to-all-hdb-lift-buttons

incognito mode ;-)

I can't say I spend my shopping trips counting masks

Next Friday you should see nearly everybody wearing masks as it will be mandatory,at the moment it is personal choice, something I been doing for a long time now

It's kinda become normal to me where ever I go

Had to get the train today, we sat there people watching as we waited (masks on btw) while waiting for the train, this man comes along with his family and I assume he worked at the station and was having a day out as he was saying very loudly it wasn't a legal requirement.

He walked up to what I assumed was his colleague and pinged the mask off of his face, the look of panic on his colleagues face and he immediately binned if, the guy then said "fuck off, I'm not wearing one, its not a legal requirement"...yet almost everyone else around him was wearing one, might not be legal but doesn't make you look like a complete tosser to everyone around you.
