When I was in the train, the guard told someone to put the mask on or they would have to go of it, did the guard do the right thing? I think he did and it should happen more often too

There was a law change up North to make it enforcable. I'd imagine it would be similar down South.

Personally, i feel we got away very luckily over here compared to mainland UK, so i think there's a bit more complacency at this stage, nearly 4mnths in. I think a mask on public transport is a reasonable ask, no matter what your stance, as typically, a journey is short

Yes absolutely right. There should be more of it. However, I myself have berated by an old man when asking him to keep a safe distance away whilst in sainsbury and there is news of the 70 year old in michigan who was stabbed for his troubles for asking a man in a shop to put his mask on. I fear we don't much like doing things when others politely ask us. Let's hope people can see the bigger picture.

People smoke where they shouldn't, don't clear up their dog shit, cycle where they shouldn't...in general folk don't care about the impact they have on other folk.

Ever tried telling someone to turn down the hissy crap coming from their ear buds?

I did once have some success with a bloke on a coach who kept sniffing every 20 seconds, I offered him a pack of tissues whilst sympathising with him how awful it must be to have forgotten his.

Lots of relieved faces and thank you's from other passengers.

Don't forget people who are exempt from wearing one too.

Why? Guard says 'Please put your mask on' persons says 'I'm exempt because....'

Simple.

Your script is far too complicated, and risks drawing the guard into a debate about whether the justification (It hurts my feelz, I'm a selfish twat who doesn't care if your granny dies, etc...)offered is 'valid'.

Went for a walk last night, and by chance ended up at a golf club, bar was open, signed in (for track and trace) and had my first pint in a public place for about 5 months... Hadnt realised how intimidated I had become.... But sanitiser everywhere, all staff either with perspex face shields or face coverings...gave me the confidence to go in. Will take a bit of getting used to but if the price to a better version of our new normality is face coverings for a while... That's fine. And no twats arguing about nor wearing a face covering, following the one way system, not getting served at the bar etc...

Tbh, I don't mind, minor law breaking. But when the consequences can be fatal to weakest in society, I hope any reasonable person would wear one. I see people everyday, wearing masks at work to protect themselves, some have asthma etc. They don't have any problems. I've even heard of folk going to the docs, telling them they have asthma, to get an exemption. It's easy, I wear a mask to protect you and your family, and you wear a mask to protect me and mine. It's manners 101.

It's also complete BS, covid is so intelligent it can tell the difference between, pubs/bars,office workers,and shop workers who can choose to wear masks. If the argument is danger danger covid danger,you can't have blurring inconsistencies, everyone knows it's just a psychological stunt to try to un scare folks back into the shops

I'd hope that the majority of people wearing masks will be enough to support the train staff asking people to wear them.

We need more people back on public transport, which will mean greater risks, so mask wearing is needed. For those troubled by inconsistency, focus on the government, rather than the measure. It makes sense for people in all busy environments indoors to wear them. The current rules are a minimum standard

Definitely, I don't understand why everyone isn't wearing one, yes you can argue it won't stop you catching covid19 but it will prevent the non symptomatic spreaders from spreading it.

Example my child's primary school have just released September's uniform policy which has been relaxed- no mention of masks. I don't understand the point in relaxing uniform when focusing on face coverings would be more effective.

Everybody has the power to remind people to mask up. But, people don't want to be attacked by "psycho's" for it. "
That is right as well as they leave that role to the guards to handle.

I think that many would be in favour of it cos I dont think that many want someone with no mask sitting beside them for the whole journey.

I think shop assistants should lead by example.

I also think that for staff safety, places should give them out. I know there's a financial cost implication, but that is cheaper than human cost.

Its like telling a Mum that her kids are misbehaving or she has a dirty home....best not to go there and stay out of it. Rely on silent pressure from the majority of normal folk. 20 years ago very few picked up dog poo but now it is the norm to pick it up after pooch has rolled one down. Unfortunately dropping litter seems to have gone the other way...mostly sweet wrappers and takeaway packaging outside my house. I blame the parents.

I dont see the issue with it. However, I've always put mine on one I'm on the bus. I had a bus driver literally shout at me that I had to put it on before he would let me on... got on the bus and almost no one had a mask on!!

My work has said they will decide how it will effect us next week. I think they will say that customers can do what they like and if they get caught by someone and fined that will be their issue but we as staff won’t be able to turn people away.

The train franchises where nationalized in all but name by the government at the start of lockdown.

They could impose and enforce whatever standrads they want. But the government wouldn't even say face masks where compulsory in shops and then had to u turn.

Planes taking off and landing during the pandemic with little or no screening and track and trace

How anyone can not only follow all the government rules and advice but be aware of them prior to all the different scenarios is beyond me.

And even when you have worn your maks, when you get of the train head into somewjere like the west end ofblondon and see 100s of people drinking on Friday night with no masks.

I'm not surprised some people say...fuck this and dont bother with a mask.

I think that if i have to wear a mask in a shop then so should all the staff. In the local co op near me no staff wear masks or any form of PPE now plus they brush past customers frequently whereas most of the customers are all keeping the correct distance apart.

I do/will wear a mask but i find it badly affects my asthma so i will limit how often i go places that require me to wear a mask. I had a massive asthma attack this week when i wore one, plus my glasses misted up and i couldn't see !

People who wear the masks do so for the benefit of others. So it’s only right the others show the same respect and wear theirs too. If you wish not to wear the mask then fine but you should also not use public transport.

However some people are exempt from wearing and it’s wrong to assume people’s reasons for not wearing only hope that people do the right thing.

The biggest stupidity for me is people who wear them but under their chin or not over their noses. So these people not realise how breathing works or are they just happy to look like absolute idiots

I reckon it is the other way around that people are wearing a mask for their own protection and not for the others, but yes those who dont shouldnt use the transport at all

I was on a train recently during the heatwave. Literally hundreds of teenagers crammed on the train on the way to the beach. As soon as they got on, they removed their masks. Train packed like sardines.No sign of the guard.

I went to a shopping centre, and ended up breaking my mask, on my way into another shop to look for a new one I got the "hi guys, if you have a mask can you please wear it in store" I said I was in looking for one, she said they don't have any, the next shop I went into didn't bother.

It gives you that feeling in your stomach that you used to get as a kid when you don't wear a seat belt. I don't know why anyone wouldn't wear one of they could

I can't say that, having spoken to a girl on the tills at the supermarket and from my own observations, people in Scotland are just getting on with it. Some guy in Asda last night didn't have a mask on. He looked like the type who would ignore the rules..Hopefully he gets caught / catches it!
