Continue here, it was interesting seeing the replys, so do you also bring your mask with you when you go out? They are especially useful in enclosed spaces like shops and transport

Friday boris says he is in favour of face coverings in shops.

Sunday gove says (in his view) that they do not need to be compulsory as the public can use common sense.

Today boris tells us to expect announcements on wearing them.

Ffs just announce it now as we all expected this months back and I'll bet my last £1 that it will come...so stop the fecking about on it

Actually not true masks that are not Ppe standard good as useless and if they’ll worked they would not be questioning whether to make them mandatory or not

ppe for use in a professional surrounding has to have a standard due to how its used and in what surroundings no one is saying other mask are up to those standards but what the are saying is its better than nothing they will work as a general barrier but not in a hospital/care/close contact situation...

a bog standard face covering will help protect you in a social distancing environment ....

Actually not true... they are not ‘protective’ in as much as they don’t filter the air etc, if you walk through a cloud of infectious particles you are still in trouble... but, they do massively reduce the output of those infectious particles from someone infected with the virus.

In terms of PPE standard the same applies to surgical masks, the blue Backed material versions are a reduction method, it’s only FIT tested masks that will offer any form of true protection to the respiratory tract.

Another nail in the coffin of the High Street, this move will only push more people onto online shopping, why would you go through the hassle of going shopping when you can't try anything on, you have queue to get in places, can't touch anything and have to wear a face covering?

While I will oblige by the rules when I go food shopping (although I question the effectiveness as people don't follow basic hygiene rules at the moment and masks will only result in them touching thier face more and spreading it with thier hand) I won't be doing any other shopping on the High Street it's really just not worth the hassle.

All the way through Covid the advice has been that face masks are useless in day to day environments.

Now they’re enforceable in shops

New guidelines for actors have been released to allow kissing/sex scenes within the industry. But I need to wear a mask to buy a loaf of bread.

The government has given varying degrees of guidance and information that has been either disproven or they themselves have contradicted. And people wonder why they’re not trusted lol.

The problem is with masks (or indeed any PPE) is that you have to know how to put them on and remove them correctly to prevent cross contamination otherwise their effectiveness is compromised.

Disposable masks are single use. Non disposable should be washed after each use. Never touch your mask when wearing it, remove using the earpieces and fold in half so the outside of the mask is concealed inside. Wash your hands before and after handling masks. I’d say scrupulous hand hygiene is key to the effectiveness of PPE.

It’s an absolute minefield... I totally agree though that there’s benefit in us all wearing it publicly at the moment though

I don’t think it’s always about abusing the system, you obviously get those that rebel. But, It’s also about being an individual that can pull information and research for themselves from various other sources. Not being drip fed by everyone that’s either in power, is making money from or has an added investment into running the business that is this country.

As for wearing masks and stop rebelling, if you believe the mask your wearing protects you adequately enough then don’t worry about what others are doing or not doing.

And this isn’t coming from a non-conformist perspective, I’ve worn masks and will do as and when I feel it’s necessary. It just irks me when a ‘Do as your told’ attitude comes from it all, I’m an adult that has an ability to conclude from various sources and has the right to do so. I can cross the road safely and use a sharp knife and everything lol.

Those that have it or know someone who has it, would not wish it on anyone. My ex had it and ended up in hospital several times and ended up in ICU once. It can be a very debilitating and scary condition.
