Peak District advice

Can anybody provide an update for the Peak District? I’m thinking of visiting with friends ( getting a rural cottage). Not sure what’s open and how locals feel but we would be pretty self sufficient and respectful. Is the area and surrounds open? Recommendations, suggestions or just general advice on area would be welcome... thanks!

Open. Self catering opened from 4 July. Go, enjoy, keep safe.

Keeping an eye on this. I’m close to the Peak District from the 25th - house and dog sitting. I know Dovedale but keen to explore other parts.

Love Dovedale have been many times. Same as many other areas from matlock and a walk along the top, to hiking up and around mamtor, winnets etc...think visitors are allowed just be respectful and if the place is crowded move on there will be areas with fewer people..just be sensible and keep to distancing rules.

Be sensible. There’s a bit of a spike Sheffield/ South Yorks and the Peak is local to these areas.

As suggested, socially distance, wash hands, enjoy the outdoors, maybe avoid pubs.

I’m told Malham has been crazy busy, full carparks, no loos etc.

Maybe avoid the honeypots for now, plenty of other stunning places to visit.

The peaks are get, have been down a couple of times during lockdown for hiking.

Would recommend doing the Monsal Trail, either walking or cycling.

Dovedale is lovely too.

No issues with covid in the area lots of space for social distancing too.

And to the others Malham is in the Dale's not the Peaks

There has been a mixed response from different lake district social media pages, from locals telling visitors to fuck off back home, to visit here but be careful.

I visited the peak district a lot growing up, Miller's dale and around there.

Just starting walking in the Peak district. The main beauty spots are very overcrowded but as soon as you go a few hundred metres up a footpath its very quiet.

Yeah I tend to lump the pennines area all in one and I don't know them in detail.. Was always more of a lakes walker

Yeah I tend to lump the pennines area all in one and I don't know them in detail.. Was always more of a lakes walker

People will overload the very popular sites, so I'd advise you to explore more broadly. Ordinary weekends outside of lockdown get busy, so I think it's wise to assume that people will potentially be here in greater numbers at weekends.

As some one from the peak district I can tell you that tourists are deffinetly not welcome and have been an absaloute menice with places like Chatsworth and the peak park authority having to take on loads of private security company's to try and controll the people trespassing, littering, wild camping and mass gatherings never mind the little villages where they are getting over taken by cars parking all over we live in a beautiful isolated part of the country and don't appreciate folk from all over bringing god knows what with them.

Hello all... thanks for the input and updates. Tom

I totally appreciate your comments and your opinion. Not all tourists will treat this beautiful part of the country with respect... I will not be one of these people. We won’t be bringing any virus with us ( all tested pre trip). Hopefully we will have a safe and happy time with family god knows we all need some Safe time outside and I’m guessing some business in the area will welcome respectful and Sensible visitors

Well your in the minority then having visited the peaks twice recently i can only comment that people were very welcoming.

You do know just because you live in an area you don't own it. A national park is just that. It belongs to a nation and is there for everyone to enjoy. These pleases wouldn't exist without tourism!

You will always get a couple of bad eggs in any situation but the overwhelming majority treat these areas with the respect they deserve!

It’s been packed the last two weekends, some bars are asking for name and mobile number for tracing but most places are open and most letts are fully booked now

Just back from an amazing week in the peaks... it was amazing. Great walks lots to do if you plan and book in advance and are sensible.
