So,as predicted, headlines today about trouble caused due to pubs reopening.

15 million pints d*unk,arrests made, assaults happened,pubs closed easily due to disorders.

I'm sure these incidents were a minority but hit the headlines anyway.

So why could so many predict this happening?

Is it the alcohol or just humans being humans?

Alcohol is a problem.

Not for all but it is a license for people to do stupid things and get away with it because they were 'd*unk' is the excuse ....

I think there was a lot of problems on the streets anyway, with people getting together and not socially distancing.

As usual the press and media will portray this in whatever is going to work for them, and sell the most advertising and issues.

As expected in the busier areas and urban areas...out here in the sticks in the market town I am in plus some villages surrounding (went cycling yesterday to take a look) then many were still closed and some of them the staff were standing outside looking around for customers....as many failed to show,here some pubs held back until midweek and operating a booking policy and not allowing walk in customers for now..... It remains to be seen how relaxed it does get in a week or two

Around us it was all sensible. People enjoying being able to socialise. Its nitbthe drink, they've had that all at home. But meeting friends and having some semblance of a life.

Pubs have been well organised, table service and clientel behaved.

Media once again looking to cause an issue where a minimal one exists. You'll always get idiots, statistically it'll happen. But here, virtually everyone well behaved and happy

We didn’t always drink sensibly as kids , but mostly. Landlords often knew our parents and you had to behave in the city centre. Today it’s different , bars activity encourage kids to get wasted, staff wandering around half naked with trays of shots that taste like sugar , drinks designed to taste sweet but max the alcohol , longer hours so they drink at home 10/11 then go the bar till 3-4am

You saw it coming and the worst thing because of this clubs will not open how is a shay transgender woman supposed to find a partner. O a more wide note it was a given that this would happen people can't follow rules at the best time throw in alcohol and its a recipe for disaster

So which is it? Co's seriously I can't find much that reports that Saturday was a disaster in any way shape or form.

We called in Spoons in Liverpool city centre this afternoon. No trouble, not overtly busy and very well managed. Don't believe every thing you read in the press, most pubs were very quiet

We popped out for a quick couple early afternoon. We sat outside (we felt comfortable doing that, inside might have to wait a bit longer) in the Market Square, we were the only ones. Inside seemed busy(ish) but all quite well behaved and not an ounce of trouble. It was early though and once we had finished we went back home to enjoy the afternoon away from any potential crowds.

I don't think any of the stories are a surprise and gut feeling is that it all went as expected, in the scheme of things relatively trouble free.

Let's see how the next two or three weeks play out.

I don't think I said anything was a disaster,nor was I referring to threads,I was talking about the media....

Most news articles talk about the 'chaos' in Soho or a Southampton policeman saying how it's crystal clear that people who get d*unk can't follow social distancing after what he witnessed on Saturday night.

Those news stories were always going to happen as they were looking for there to be trouble!

A seaside town close to me is full of people today,arcades are open,pubs are open and people walking in the roads as too many to keep to the one way system on the pavements.

It's impossible to keep to social distancing with multiple large families and groups in narrow streets.

But everyone knows the risks by now and it doesn't seem what the advice is there are people that won't follow it and those that choose to stay away from the crowds.

Media have a lot to answer for, they hyped the whole thing up ready to criticize it the following day. Okay it was always going to be a bit messy in some cases alchahol makes you confident and you lose your inhibitions so what do you expect. But whenever it was done it would have the same result.

Because they do not live in the real world, have no idea what happens in our city centres on a weekend, sipping Pims in the westminster bar or an Oxbridge Union is not the real world is it?

There wasn't any real trouble in manchester that I saw. Everywhere was very civilised. I doubt the bars made much if any money with such low attendance. I felt 100x safer in the pub that I do in tesco.
