I'd prefer lockdown for as long as needed to remove the virus as much as possible. It should have been tougher at the start. We have to get used to things being different and tougher, as most people have

We should have opened everything up when the schools went back, the virus infection levels went too low from delaying it till now, and people are so desperate for a taste of life they will now not social distance for it. So levels can only go up, the virus isn't going to burn out like sars did and a second wave is on the cusp

There is no evidence of that the only evidence provided here is that 83% of people asked are cowards, too scared to leave their houses and want to make sure that everyone lives the same way they do. 83% of people that are able to continue their lives while others are on the bread line able but not allowed to work but sod them eh ... they don’t matter.

So we are coming out of lockdown trying to mix and get back to normal, but no the 2nd wave is going to kill us all. But must come out of lockdown for the economy, and just watch people die. We have to follow spain,Italy, France and the rest, who are mixing now and dying in there thousands . Wake up coming out of lockdown is not going to kill us.

Realistically there will always be a 2nd wave as you return from lockdown, it’s how that is managed at a regional basis that counts. We all need to just get back to work and bring money in, surely it is not sustainable to pause the economy indefinitely. Generations upon generations will be paying for all this in taxes for years to come.

This .

It's a very tight balancing act.

People need to get out there and back to work.

Keep the people that need to shield safe.

But let's get the rest back out working.

I don’t understand - is this saying 83% think we’ll suffer a 2nd wave? Or 83% think we should go back into lockdown, right now?

I agree that we’ll probably see a 2nd wave, but we at least have to try coming out of lockdown - otherwise we’ll just go bankrupt, both individually and as a nation.

"I don’t understand - is this saying 83% think we’ll suffer a 2nd wave? Or 83% think we should go back into lockdown, right now?

I agree that we’ll probably manufacturing see a 2nd wave, but we at least have to try coming out of lockdown - otherwise we’ll just go bankrupt, both individually and as a nation."

More like 83% of people who want to continue getting paid for doing nothing. I can't blame though because I'd like that as well.. But it doesn't work like that for all of us.

I'm lucky, I still have a job! But I am also unlucky with working from home is a complete nightmare! My IT systems are shit, I've asked for an upgrade but so far no good, I'm still expected to deliver the work on time but when your working with financial information you can't rush, but when you are also having to reboot 3x a day that take at least 30 mins each time is not acceptable, so we are not all relishing playing 'fun in the sun' as some parents will take their kids to the beach, to Primark and now contemplating holidays abroad, curtesy of the government handouts,

but it's not safe to go back to school??

This country should be ashamed of itself! I am truly disappointed

That's not cowardly, that's being a sensible, caring, thoughtful, considerate human being.

That the experts, there seems to be quite a few lately, actually I only listen to one now, his podcast is straight talk, no sugar coating anything,it's quite scary what he thinks will happen"

While I agree with you that this virus has to be taken seriously I'm not sure that listening to only one expert is right as even experts get things wrong, having said that I listen to a lot of experts to gain a better understanding and the majority view from them is that this is a very real problem and unless the public acknowledge this and start behaving responsibly in public we're going to be fucked again and face many more deaths come winter

I'm not a tory supporter but if Labour were in power and making the same mistake as Boris and his team of clowns I would have no problem labeling Labour clowns as well. This is a Pandemic so having blinkers on and supporting a party who gets things so blatently wrong and that should apply to whatever party is in power. Boris is the current incumbent in Downing Street so he has to take the criticism of being at the top end of countries in dealing with this crisis

But they haven't though have they? Seriously what does a 6,7,8 year old learn at school that 30bminutes with a half decent parent can't teach them each day?

A book, some crayons... And then the older ones are being self sufficient, that's a great skill to learn. I admit that it's less than ideal. But to equate 3 or 4 extra months of their life at home with a denial of human right is hyperbole.

Liberty and education are both fundamental human rights. You are suggesting forcibly taking these things from children. Children who are naturally less at risk and lower risk of passing it on. As for your query about shielding parents - I would suggest the social services step in and provide temporary foster care for that child. There is no excuse to punish a child for their parents illness, whatever it may be.

I work in education. I can tell you that school life and education is about far more than learning your abc. It’s not hyperbole to suggest that denying the right of a child to education contravenes the child’s human rights. It’s a simple, cold hard fact.

Yes I am actually. If it was a choice between my child languishing at home for the sake of my own health, or sending them to stay with their beloved aunt until it’s safe to come home. I would choose the latter option every time.

If you work education the child well being is priority

A child wants to be with their parents

No decent parent would want to be away from their child

There a solution. In exceptional circumstances child home schools this is exceptional

Im sad you believe a child who is worried anyway should be taken away from family home

83% of who was asked? I wasn't asked, neither were my wife or any of our friends so exactly who were this 83% you talk about, did they only ask 100 people, simply put there's a serious lack of information to go quoting some bloody survey that most of us haven't even seen

Okay. Now you are just being rude and hysterical. I’m sad that some children are going to be mollycoddled by their overprotective parents. This generation of children really are going to suffer for the terrible decisions made by the adults in their lives.

I can see your point, but I do think the family nucleus is inherently variable and some families are closer than others.

I trust the schools and the teachers to carry on with what they are currently doing as it works.

Regardless if I trust the goverment or not, the emphasis is on the kids not and not pissing contest about which politician did what.

A child wants to be with their parents

My children have 100 percent attendance one parent is, a scholl governor

Education is priority

Protecting family is paramount to any decent person.

Additionally not all school teachers act on child's best interest alot just career and money. NOT ALL.

Hope your children realise you put education before the family

You can't bring people back to life.

Friend of mine had a year off with illness when 9. Now has PhD and very senior job.

Bit his parent when theyt were 9 and they haven't brought them back to life but did recover education family protection first can't believe any parent would disagree

"Answer this question I saw on bbc

If both parents shielding how can child go to school

Risk child OK but spreads virus to parents shielding

Both parents die

Child becomes ORPHAN HOW IS THAT IN CHILDS BEST INTEREST

So should child go to school everyone avoids question. If both parents are shielding a high risk child no the child can’t go to school but nor can the parents go out ,it’s a really terrible problem and those are the people who really need help ,

That child could be placed in temporary foster care, stay with a family member or family friend. There is no reason whatsoever for that child not to go to school.

What mother would want to be separated from her child

Secondly the harm would do to the child

CAN I ASK ARE YOU A MOTHER

Yes I am actually. If it was a choice between my child languishing at home for the sake of my own health, or sending them to stay with their beloved aunt until it’s safe to come home. I would choose the latter option every time."

Not all children have aunts or other support people they can turn to and these are mainly disadvantaged children in this category. If a disadvantaged family with no support have shielding issues and have no support then the child should be able to remain at home. It's no use being a 'jobsworth' in this type of situation.

Social services are probably more under resourced than they have been for decades, and this applied before this Pandemic arrived, and do disadvantaged family's want to be separated, do Foster families want to take on more children in this current climate, do disadvantaged families trust social services???

. Think of previous instances in our history where children have forcibly been separated from their families and this could be a problem waiting to bite back. And I think 'jobsworth' is very apt in this situation. People need to think outside 'the box' adapt and apply a common sense approach

Could you please explain how I am being deliberately unhelpful or obstructive by suggesting children could be placed outside of the family home?

I’m concession to what you say, I suppose a child shouldn’t be forcibly removed from their home. However, I personally feel that keeping a developing child from their friends, fresh air, freedom and education, to protect my own health, would be incredibly selfish of me.

As for social services- yes I realise they are under a lot of pressure. Sadly that will always be the case. However, social services tend to look for temporary foster arrangements within the child’s family in the first instance (unless of course, the family is the problem!!) - so it’s not like I’m talking about ripping children away from their homes and placing them in a dungeon somewhere.

As for children being separated in the past- my grandad was sent away from London as an evacuee. His parents didn’t hyperventilate and clutch at their nighties. They did what was right for the children and sent them to a place of safety.

I think that parents should be respected - of course I do. I also think that they should be gently encouraged to consider all options and their potential outcomes for the future of their children. It’s not good enough to say- I know my kids, I know what’s best. Some people simply don’t know what is best, because they dont understand exactly what it is that education in schools offer children. The person who suggested that children are fine with a bit of paper and some crayons, for example. If people understood the wider benefits of access to education, perhaps their viewpoints on the importance of education would be different.

In an ideal world I agree but in these unprecedented times I think families should be given more of a say and while I'm sure most of social services offer a good and efficient service I could see that because of many of their well publicised past failings a good many family's would be distrusting of their advice

In an ideal world I agree but in these unprecedented times I think families should be given more of a say and while I'm sure most of social services offer a good and efficient service I could see that because of many of their well publicised past failings a good many family's would be distrusting of their advice"

Many people have distrust of vaccinations, distrust of the police, distrust of the government in general, distrust in 5g, distrust in ... well ... I could go on all morning of what many may people distrust. I have to say though- when I saw places like Harringay on the list of places that may see rising cases/potential localised lockdown, my heart sank. But again- that is another debate!

Confused...What do they support? Do they support locking down before weve even unlocked or do they support it if it ever happens?

TBH if 80 odd percent of people supported it and stayed locked down the rest of us would be pretty safe going about our usual business.

Wonder what their opinion is on that?

"Some of us have worked throughout this. Personally, I would have struggled mentally with staying home all the time."

It's good to look at different perspectives. Far too often on here people are expressing jealousy that there are those on furlough.

"I think we should go to full lockdown now. Kids summer holidays let's get it sorted

Children have already been locked up and denied their basic human right of access to education for the last four months. You want them to suffer even more?!? Jeesh!

No I don't but no school or loss of life

No school no brainer

Liberty and education are both fundamental human rights. You are suggesting forcibly taking these things from children. Children who are naturally less at risk and lower risk of passing it on. As for your query about shielding parents - I would suggest the social services step in and provide temporary foster care for that child. There is no excuse to punish a child for their parents illness, whatever it may be. "

I doubt there are hundreds of Foster parents ready waiting. Social services are always calling for more.

"83% of who was asked? I wasn't asked, neither were my wife or any of our friends so exactly who were this 83% you talk about, did they only ask 100 people, simply put there's a serious lack of information to go quoting some bloody survey that most of us haven't even seenJust to clear up everything in the air ,this news came in yesterday morning on Sky news"

Going to school and an getting an education are not mutually exclusive. You think the kids at school now are getting much education, they are just getting babysat. I agree kids need education but just sending them to school with no social distancing in place is madness at the moment. Maybe kids going in half the time and the rest of the time taught online, makes social distancing in school a lot easier.

If you read my posts you will see where I quite clearly say that social services look to place children with family in the first instant. It’s getting a bit boring having to repeat myself to those who only seem to read what they want to read.

83% bet the question was asked at a hospital, were they don't have to worry because their pay check is paid into their bank every month. What about the millions sitting at home because the government has banned them from working, and now worried sick if they have a job next week. But its ok lock us down again if your job is for life, and stuff the rest let them go under there's always the food banks.

And how will you be going about your 'usual business' if some sectors of the economy is shutdown due to another lockdown ?

Do you have children?

Do you have a partner?

Yes

"

Then you have no idea what it's like to be a single parent at home for the ladt 3 months, with another 6 weeks of summer holidays ahead, looking after 3 children, all under 10.

When you do, you might have a very different view.

What is it they say about walking in someone else's shoes?

By the way, no need to copy and paste your forum post into a PM. Reading it once was more than enough ta.

Death by covid or death by economics...Hilarious

Go have a look at the news ourside outside the UK at 3 world counties where no one is laughing because its reality when they live on £1 a day.

We live in a wealthy nation...be grateful the furlough schen has afford many an option to see out covid safely in a way most of the rest of the world hasn't

Even in the USA the most help you got was a (delayed) cheque for £1000 and trumps signature on it

I trust the people who have been following the lockdown rules to the letter have also brought their weight into the 'normal' bmi range and reversed their diabetes because that is a far better long-term strategy than hiding under the bed.

People of a healthy weight with no preexisting health conditions have little to fear from the virus.
