"Hasn’t done the world any favours just heard the USA have bought up most of the worlds supply of the drug that helps with corona. That we will have to wait till October to buy it again " I'm no Trump fan, but I'm not sure why this is a story. The first job of govt is to protect its people. It was out there and has been known to alleviate symptoms for months and the US Administration bought it. Perhaps the story should be why it is other nations governments chose not to buy it when they had the opportunity to do so.

It was still going through clinical trials. Otherwise you have a situation like the uk govement who spent 16-20 million on useless corona tests and the initial outbreak. Spending millions a on gamble when a huge chunk of population is unemployed sounds like political disaster to me. This is global pandemic.... Trying to land lock your country in the hope the rest of the world will burn out the disease and that this one therapeutic will protect a nation. Shows how bigoted trump is and he doesn't have the ability to assess the big picture. Which is true with pretty much every geopolitical negotiation he is involved in.

If we / others wanted the drug, they were free to purchase at the market price, as is the case in a free market. If they didn't want it because it was too expensive then that's their choice to make. If we didn't want it because it was still not approved by NICE, then why is there even a discussion. I agree trump is incredibly divisive.

"Would we not do the same with similar circumstances...putting our own people first? " To this and other posts with a similar narrative. Do you still not understand how a virus spreads? Whilst you live through a pandemic? You can't lock yourself in four walls and say let everyone catch it. If trump was shrewd he understand the economy is us. Its people not named corporations, it the people inside them. What's the use of a high share price if all the workers are dead? And if Indias population of pharma workers is killed off. Who is going to make the drug. This is skilled work. They maybe paid peanuts but it's alot more skilled than packing parcels for Amazon in utah. Why does "the donald" always look like he is squinting... Because he can't see more than 2 feet in front of his own ideas or basis

"Would we not do the same with similar circumstances...putting our own people first? How much are they charging for it? And what about our 'special relationship?" "Hasn’t done the world any favours just heard the USA have bought up most of the worlds supply of the drug that helps with corona. That we will have to wait till October to buy it again " The man is a joke, 50-100-250 thousand cases per week meaning they are going to need every single drop of it. I just hope that the EU or UK get the vaccine first and use this as leverage. The man is sick, buying up world supplies of medicine in order to cover up his incompetences. If they controlled the virus over there, they would not need the amount of treatment they are going to need in 4 to 8 weeks and be enough to share.

" Yeah it's like person who panic bought all the soap. He's sat at home with all the soap. Everyone else in the community can't wash their hands and virus transmission goes up as a result putting soap man in more danger. Where he would have been better sharing the soap out so everyone could wash their hands and reduce the spread. I know this won't reduce the spread but it's a worldwide problem and countries should be sharing resources and helping each other out.

"Some other points to note Remdesivir is made by Gilead an American pharma company. Had they not supplied the US government with the allocation they wanted. Im sure trump would have enforced/bullied them into supply through the war act. Just like he did with gm making them agree to make ventilators. Its also worth noting a 5 day course of the drug will cost American health insurance companies $2300. Oh and by they way.... That's the discounted price. I'm sure this a deal that was pushed on Gilead and they accept a lower price rather than be forced to supply through the war act. (the America health system is fucking nuts but let's not derail the topic) Do you think most nations could afford $2300 per patient per week? The irony is these pills are probably going to be made in India or China where most drugs are made. Take that kung flu... Trump is a fucking psychopath " This. Plus, the medicine failed several trials. This seems hydroxychloroquine 2.0

What it does is lower the time in hospital and lower the health costs. So it's more about being efficent. The cost of someone in a bed for 4 days with COVID is over 12k dollars.
