While we want the economy to get a boost this will be a wipeout for common sense . . . Really hope that I'm wrong.

Some people will follow all social distancing guidelines and be very mindful of what they are doing.

You have a lot of patience guys to keep fencing with these lefties. I think a lot of us have largely given up. Their opinions are just so biased and ingrained and whatever the government do they will have an answer to counter any good will or good intention. I suppose they would say the same about people like me. Thank heavens we get to vote every so often and prove time and time again that the majority thinks their nonsense will not work.

Going to leave it a little longer before I head "out out", but hoping to visit a restaurant at an outdoor table over the summer, bored of cooking! I think the pubs will be bursting at the socially distanced seams this weekend, too old to dodge folk

i've offically been spooked and changed my stance....

if you want a cautionary tale.... i can take you to where i went to uni in the states...

East lansing, Michigan....

there is a bar in the town called "harpers"... i would love to say its a lovely bad but to be honest its a bit of a dive! lol (basically its where you start drinking to you grow up and find better places!!)..

anyway, they open up..... people started getting "ill".....

they are now responsible for the single biggest outbreak of Covid in the state! and one of the single biggest outbreaks in the US... so far 125 cases of Covid have been traced back to this one... single... bar!!!!

i was honestly of the position of "go out be sensible!"..... now its a case of "fuck no!!!

Pubs have to open sooner or later otherwise there won't be any left, many are struggling as it is even without covid.

Maybe the govt should have set the reopening date to coincide with a Monday or Tuesday so as to avoid some of the scramble, instead of being so obsessed with tying it to an American public holiday date

I wouldn't go because of the fear of having to go into self isolation if one of the other 50 or 100 people test positive.

We've come this far, I wouldn't risk it just for a drink in a pub.

To be fair, the bar didn't seem to have very strict rules on social distancing, if any. Plus, those cases have been over 3 weeks.

I'm not saying it's not bad, I'm just saying that if people here follow the guidelines and are vigilant with hand washing etc, we shouldn't get a large outbreak.

this issue is more what fauchi always points out which is your actions from now will determine what happens in ago 2 weeks time spikes wise...

125 cases of which 20 are secondary cases (people caught it from other people who had been there!)

and this is basically exactly whats happened..... the govenor held out... a lot of people got antsy.... bars finally open and people went mental!

only surprise is that it was harpers... we all had bets on it being "ricks" but thats an MSU inside joke....

I think a few people might be missing a few points of what people are saying. I'm glad pubs are opening and all luck to them but it wont last. Groups are going out Saturday night thinking it'll be the same as it was before, it won't, it will get very old very fast and maybe not without trouble. I want to help boost my local economy but it wont be for a couple of months

It might not last, but not everyone going out is looking to get absolutely hammered and cause shit. There's been quite a few disrespectful comments about people going out (not in this thread) and it's unnecessary, some of us can go out, have a drink and a chat and not cause a spike. I don't have covid and neither does my friend, if we stick to social distancing and wash our hands etc, I don't see why we can't have a night out and it be perfectly fine.

The problem isn't going to be with those going out for a couple of drinks with their mates, the problem is going to the minority who's idea of a good night out is to get hammered and have a fight or two on the way home and nearly every town has them.

Those people are a pain in the arse in normal times, but at the moment, letting them loose on a pub could be catastrophic for the sensible drinkers.

Social media is already full of Leicester 'lads' arranging 'piss ups' outside of the city... because they can...

Oh, I completely agree, there will definitely be some bottom dwellers that have no self control. I just don't agree that everyone that goes to a pub/club tomorrow is going to be responsible for a second wave nor does everyone who goes out deserve to be insulted.

Wind the clock back 8 weeks. Press was full of what a great job we were doing, staying home, stopping the virus spreading, mindful of others, appreciating our life saving NHS front line, caring for our neighbours and community and key workers. Wtf has happened?!

Wouldn't it be wonderful, if Sundays news was.. "well blow me down, we can act like a united community, socialise sensibly, and get home again without spreading more virus around"... Heres hoping.. And.. As an initial Boris supporter, where the fxxx has he disappeared to?
