I was just looking forward to taking the kids to the park! Even though I'd booked them in for a hair cut, the park was more inviting!

Well it's Leicester and the outskirts. Who would have thought a time would come where we'd be better living in coalville

Slightly worrying that some will travel out of Leicester to visit a pub nearby and then spread the virus out of Leicester.

These local lockdowns rely on people doing the right thing being sensible.

As we've seen, people don't seem to be very sensible.

Although I am intrigued as to how they believe it is going to work. All that is happening is leicester is going back to how it was a week ago, that means the rise hasn't happened due to non essential shops opening but because people just did their own thing. How's that going to change a thing?

Be interesting to see if there is an exodus to the pubs out of area.

It’s a very diverse area so hopefully pubs won’t be a priority and they abide by the lockdown to bring it down.

The mayor of Leicester has been taking a leaf out of Trump's book. He says Leicester only have a higher rate because they tested more....love to know what he based it on?

Maybe his next suggestion will follow...stop testing and it will go away?

Local lockdowns will be counter productive!! “Unnecessary” travel out of Leicester is only advised! This is just going to push carriers out of Leicester to shop etc in surrounding areas.

He could be right, Barrow in furness was getting bad press weeks ago about the number of cases in the town but they have tested on average two and a half times more than similar sized areas..

Not sure if Leicester has had a higher, normal or lower level if testing than others..

There's certainly a line of thought that there hasn't been enough testing, even if those tested are asymptomatic it willbe shown as a higher number, more isolation etc..

At present it mostly seems to be those that are ill and present at hospital are tested..

Exactly! People didn't exactly stay local when they went shopping anyway. IKEA opened and there's not one in Leicester but many people still went there! The same for beaches, 2hr traveling from here. We're not being told we can't leave to shop, just told it's not advised but all shops on the area have to close.

Yes you'd like to think people wouldn't do it but they will, just like they have been doing.

Even if Leicester were testing more than other places (and I'm not convinced that's the case), the fact that 10% of cases in England last week came from Leicester would indicate that something isn't as it should be.

Really isn't surprising and it's not because of people going to the beach etc.

There have been similar flare ups in cities in other countries e.g in Germany, Portugal, Australia which has resulted in local lock downs.

It's is not really down to individual behaviours but more demographics or area specific issues.

Well probably see similar lockdowns but I can imagine they will be more targeted going forward as we develop a better understanding of transmission in certain areas.

Very much doubt we will see another wide scale lockdown.

I've got family caught up in this. received messages within minutes of this being announced off my dad to cancel me and my little boy to go see him. My friends messaging as they know i'm going through Leicester to pick up my other children.

I'm just going to have to take a different route to see my children... My dad is going to have a wait a few weeks longer to see his grandson.

Me personally i just have the question of how the hell are they going to police it. so many will just go to Hinckley, Loughborough and even to Coalville to use non essential shops. I don't think it will be too effective.

You can guarantee that people will simply travel out of the Leicester lockdown area to towns and cities where they can have some “freedoms”. How many will have Covid, you can only guess and the police will not have enough resources to prevent this, but as we have seen over the last 2-3 weeks on beaches and in a number of cities; a large minority of the British public have no common sense

I doubt they will bring the army out thats the issue. Seems a lot have the attitude re cummings. Leicester Mayor traveled to his Gf place with a flimsy excuse and he argued against the government (failed obviously) to prevent a lockdown happening. its crazy in all honesty.

What if, they really push the track and trace. Monitor where you go (let’s face it they can do this now) and IF your one that has ignored the warnings, had disregarded for social distancing... then you forgo any NHS treatment of which is connected to Covid. Call it the t&c’s of NHS..

IF everyone had really put social distancing in place, shouldn’t the virus had died off by now?

People are going to travel out of of the area, with those who are willing to make sacrifices staying home. 4th July pubs open...and Those who didn’t give a dam before will grow a conscious?

The ones who catch it aren't necessarily the ones breaking the rules. They may be venturing out for one food shop because they can't get a delivery and some covidiot walks too close to them and passes it on. The person then unknowingly takes it back to their large family.

Well, Leicester is an odd one in that they “think” the spread is because the schools opened and it’s being transferred via the kids to adults .. which is why They have targeted schools where they are normally seen as low risk!

I find it worrying that it seems part of the problem was children passing it on to adults.

If that's true then how come we have allowed Early Years Education to open as it's impossible to maintain social distancing when looking after children plus we aren't wearing PPE except to change nappies etc.

Not surprising at all , based on the demographics and levels of testing they are doing compared to other places.

Expect to see the same in a few more areas over the next few months

I’m sure it will all be fine

Well, Leicester is an odd one in that they “think” the spread is because the schools opened and it’s being transferred via the kids to adults .. which is why They have targeted schools where they are normally seen as low risk!

So how’s that for “demographics”

That's what I've read as well, but I did wonder what he may have been alluding to....

Oh we know what hotnotts was alluding to.... I thought I would shut down that nonsense before it reared its ugly head.... "

Demographics?

Look it up in a dictionary

It's more that I'm wondering what you mean by that and Leicester... Care to explain? "

I read that with Leicester being quite highly populated with Asian people who tend to (sometimes) have multi generational families all living together and so therefore passing it around each other.

One reason anyway.

What no-one seems to be addressing yet with the Leicester situation is that so far it is only 'advice' to stay at home, and avoid non-essential travel - and non-essential travel previously included going on holiday...

....but how many people in the re-imposed lockdown area will have recently planned holidays for the next few weeks, and how many of them will decide to go anyway...

"I find it worrying that it seems part of the problem was children passing it on to adults.

If that's true then how come we have allowed Early Years Education to open as it's impossible to maintain social distancing when looking after children plus we aren't wearing PPE except to change nappies etc."

This

One day they are spreaders, then they are not and can go to school, then they say they are shutting schools because of the increase in children getting it.

I know, things have changed along the way through this crisis but if children are getting it then adults near them will, including teachers and whoever they go home to

This is what I don't understand either.

The advice and information is very conflicting, I work in a school and have been put on leave till September as I'm in a household with a shielder and my employer Have decided it's too high risk of me contracting it at work and passing it on to him.

Yet letters have been sent to parents have had letters saying there is little evidence that children get and spread the virus.

I should add this is also partly because I'm high risk too but not a shielder.

You can understand why people were worried about schools going back when they first started talking about it as the infections were even higher then. I know we all have to get back to some normality and kids have to go back to school so parents can go back to work, but it doesn't look like the infection rate is down enough for it at the moment.

I am with you on this one, drives me nuts people still posting on here the same old thing, feels like I’m stuck in a time warp lol.

Do people really think what Cummings did is really the reason that most people are not acting responsibly, should people not take control of their own actions? People need to stop being selfish and and use their common sense, we are not sheep, why would you follow the actions of one person, especially knowing what he did wasn’t ideal. Also from what I have seen it’s mainly teenagers that have always ignored the social distancing and I imagine most of those don’t know who Cummings is let alone what he did. I get people worried about sending their children to school but surely they are at less risk in a controlled environment with social distancing than meeting in large groups an inch apart from each other, then possibly taking the virus home to the family.

For those in Leicester saying they will just travel elsewhere to have a drink at the weekend then the mind boggles that they would want to risk their health/life along with their families and possibly work colleagues just for a beer.

What gets me is the rushing to implement fines of £120 for parents who do not sent the kids too school come September.

Surely we need to wait to see where we are at in 2 months time. Everything seems to be in desperation to me.

These local lockdowns rely on people doing the right thing being sensible.

As we've seen, people don't seem to be very sensible.

It isn't about being a sheep, for some it is about thinking sod you then after sitting in for weeks to help make sure everyone is staying safe and the NHS isn't overloaded, then the person who looks like he wrote the rules breaking so much of those rules to do what he likes.

I am one of those people who didn't move and I am still a fogo according to relatives but even I thought FFS do you all think we are thick with your story, if you can do it then so can I

Unfortunately, the virus does not follow rules we write.

If the continuation of lockdown in Leicester doesn't work, or it spreads, then stricter measures will obviously follow.

Nottingham have already said that BT Police will be checking trains to ensure people from Leicester aren't travelling there for shops or booze.

Whilst I can appreciate that some people have recently booked holidays, it was always a gamble as to wether things would go smoothly.

I'm sure the BT police will be at Leicester railway station, making sure that any "bin-dippers" aren't allowed out of the lock-down area.

They should be observing "essential travel only" guidance.

Yes it was a fiasco and he should have walked, he can’t really say do as I say not as I do but it was up to the police to find him guilty and they didn’t, so job kept and we all know two wrongs don’t make a right, or we are supposed to.
