Close the beaches only For someone or a group of someones to take him to court to proove that visiting the beach didnt cause the spike....what happens if its a spike in the local area where illegal Street parties have happened ? Or among groups known to of protested etc ? Will it just be beaches ? Don't think the government dare now try to impose a full national lockdown again especially if the weathers good..same as in a few other countries people don't want lockdown and aren't prepared to accept it so there is protests illegal events happening even rioting in some..

I'd agree and disagree really.

I live by the beach and it's one of my favourite places. It's where I go to walk to relax, and on the quieter bay where I live, when the tide's low and there's only dog walkers there's more than plenty of room. However the other bay is much more touristy and busy and you wouldn't be able to have a nice quiet walk on there in nice weather.

On the news earlier a local person showed just how 1, selfish locals can be and 2, how lacking knowledge people are:

He claimed "our" beach is full of non-locals... It's not a holiday it's a national emergency.

I'm sure most members here know how fortunate they are to live nearby. It's no hardship to go to the beach, see it's full and go to the areas that aren't (as a poster has stated here).

Whereas if you've been confined to a tower block in a city a permissible day out at the coast is a luxury. However, most will know others have those thoughts and that 2m are still enforceable.

So I say to the locals who are less generous of mind like the guy on the news re "their" beach, just think of others and their circumstances.

I agree ..not everyone on the beaches didnt social distance.

It's the council and police in the district that should control the amount of people on said beaches.Lockdown has been relaxed.Beaches and beauty spots will be visited. If the authorities controlled the number of visitors this wouldnt be an issue.

The government should not doing what the stupid people want, there job is to protect the people and if that means during there tenure taking very unpopular decisions for the greater good then so be it.

This is why Thatcher was a winner,Boris needs to learn from his parties past otherwise he will fail in the long run.

No needs for pubs to open,a need tgo educate kids a good example I think

I dont agree with many things that have happened during this pandemic but i concentrate on keeping myself and my family safe and not stress over things i cant change.

I'm not visiting beaches, planning to go to the pubs when they re open, not going into town ...im staying local and have done for the past 4 months.

I cant change what has happened only look forward to better times .

Pubs can open but they should limit the number of people who attend them same as beaches it needs regulation or we May as-well do away with it all and watch people die in the streets all because some dickhead wants a pint

I’m sick of this common sense thing. A lot of people don’t have any for a start. Also what might appear sensible to me may not appear sensible to you! That’s why people expect their gvt to make decisions! That’s why they are in charge for god sake!

When people’s health is at risk, you don’t rely on people’s common sense especially when you know how many dumb people there are out there.

No, when people’s health is at risk, you guide, you lead, you demand and you enforce. What we have at the moment is donkeys led by donkeys. And the result is for all of us to see.

You let people use their common sense and when another spike happens, you can shift the blame on the thickos instead of taking the flack. I wouldn’t be surprised if this useless gvt were doing exactly this.

Bournemouth beach is 7 miles long with multiple entry and exit points. 500k people came in to the town yesterday. As of Sept 2019 Dorset Police had 1272 Officers. Take away senior officers, Specialist squads and a 4 shift pattern, minus sickness and leave ect. It was likely about 70-90 uniformed officers were on duty. This being a very generous assumption. Thats 10 officers per mile leaving the whole of Dorset with no Police left. Exactly how are the beaches going to be closed?

I don’t how Labour would have done things differently since March but they are a bit less isolationist than the tories so I can only assume that they would have collaborated and paid more attention to what other countries were doing. They are a bit less navel-gazing than the current lot so they might have been happy to use the same app as the Germans instead of trying to be world beating and trying to prove we have a bigger dick than everybody else. The result being than the UK’s dick still hasn’t been seen by anyone and now the app has been kicked into the long grass.

The big difference may not be about how differently Labour would have acted since March but more how different things would they have done in the last ten years to make sure that the NHS was in a good place. The tories and their obsessions of deregulations and privatisations have fragmented the NHS which has made it much more fragile and less able to coordinate things in a situation of crisis. Remember Andrew Lawnsley?

Labour would hopefully have had enough nurses and may not have had to beg for retired nurses and doctors to get out retirement. This was just pathetic.

The waiting lists have never been longer than they have been since the tories got in ( that’s why they’re getting rid of them) so I can only assume that all the people who’ve had their cancer treatment ( or other ailments) postponed because of Covid would have stood a better chance to carry on being treated normally.

The list is endless. As Labour have always been more prone to spending money than the Conservative party, something tells me that they would have acted on the Cygnus report and that we would have been better equipped. The lack of PPE is the result of ideological decisions from a party that is obsessed with savings and that had been cutting corners since 2010.

"I don’t how Labour would have done things differently since March but they are a bit less isolationist than the tories so I can only assume that they would have collaborated and paid more attention to what other countries were doing.

The lack of PPE is the result of ideological decisions from a party that is obsessed with savings and that had been cutting corners since 2010."

Just a thought:

You have got to laugh at a gvt that is telling us to show common sense.

My common sense tells me that transferring patients from hospitals to care homes without testing them is a bad idea. The gvt’s common sense doesn’t tell them this.

My common sense tells me that testing everyone coming from Asia in February was the right thing. It also tells me that anybody coming from the continent should have been quarantined from March. The gvt’s common sense doesn’t tell them that. Their common sense tells me to set up a quarantine four months later when the thing is almost over on the continent.

My common sense tells me that when easing off the lockdown, you set a limit on how far people can travel so that they don’t all end up on beaches. The gvt’s common sense doesn’t tell them that.

Shall I go on? The list, against, is endless. I think I have more common sense than the donkeys who are leading us and who have blood on their hands.

Not sure if you are referring to me, but no. The people who invaded the beaches yesterday are cretins. However, if the gvt had had a bit of common sense, they’d have known that there are thickos everywhere and that setting a maximum distance was a no brainer. The Scottish common sense seems to be better than down south.

My understanding is that the district council cleared up 33 tons of rubbish on thursday morning alone.

Given the financial shortfalls that all councils are facing as a result of Covid, one has to wonder how long the district council is going to be able to justify the expenditure resulting from these social decrepit retards.

As we are now being told about localised lockdowns, there should already be a mechanism in place to shut down areas and I think now would be a good time to test it out.

According to some on here. The govt are responsible for everything and the individual has no sense (Common or otherwise), apparently think it is quite OK for individuals to continue to spread the virus and assign that responsibility to guess who? Yes the govt. Then when people get sick that is the fault of guess who? Yes the govt. Then when the NHS can't perform all of their other tasks because they are busy working with covid patients and their consequences that is who's fault? Let me take a guess.

For gods sake take a bit of responsibility and be a little more community spirited. We will get out of this a lot quicker than being selfish.

I'm no fan of some of things our govt have done but a massive fan of being the best me that I can be and doing the best for my country I can do.

People are going to the beach because there's nothing else to do, when more places open up they're spread out more. And as for rubbish that's the council's job, if not enough bins can't blame people. They will be begging them to come soon.

Omg, this furlough scheme...! That’s probably the only thing these clowns have got roughly right in 3 months.

Now if you’d rather celebrate this and forgive for the remaining 90%, why not, but use your common sense to understand that people can genuinely be appalled at this gvt’s response.

As for the furlough scheme, it is not as perfect as dome make it to be! A lot of people have received f. all.

Sons sheep are so easily pleased. You pay them for three months and they let you fuck up everything you want. Don’t blame the gvt, they’ve paid us for three months! seriously, some people are easily and don’t need much to be pleased. I suspect there are 65 000 families who see things differently.

I can srr that some individual beaches could be shut due to an emergency but it's impossible in an island with the size of our coastline to shut down all.

Iv not received a cent or even a brass farthing from this government even tho I have a company and employ a 4 people

Iv had no income at all since lockdown

Iv payed the people out of my own pocket hoping to claim it back but it looks unlikely I for one understand why the government did the furlough scheme some people don’t get it no government knows what the future brings for this country we have got to pull together I could stand to

Loose over a million pounds and a company plus four good workers all because of covid we will just suck it up and move on which some innhere can’t seem to do as they just selfish cunts who think they can do a better job than the government we have it may not be perfect but it’s what we have and moaning and bitching ain’t gonna change fuck all so just get on with Yr own shit and protect Yr family and friends is all you can do at the end of the day

Eh, are you for real?

The council would have enough bins to cope. But not when half a million eejits descend on one town and expect everything laid on for them.

It's part of everyday life these days, regrettably! People litter the street, the parks, the beaches and dump their rubbish, as they're too brain dead to use the bins provided, or won't take it home with them.

Put it this way, what if thousands of people descended on your local area and dumped all their trash on your doorstep? Would you have that same moronic attitude?

Take away the furlough pay, kids will be back at school at a blink of the eye and no questions asked, as parents will need to go back to work, the idiots would be grandstanded and hopefully justifiably court and if needs be jail

Simple solution to an unruly country, would they take stock of themselves? Of course not, it will be the governments fault yet again, for withdrawing the hand that feeds them!

It's a no win situation but I do wish we had laws to scare the F*ing idiots that put others at risk, and I really do feel for the police just now trying to control these unruly illegal street parties, what the hell can they do about them, when they are just full of louts? They'll have to be armed soon, if this behavior continues in my view

"What I find more annoying are those who go to a beach (or countryside, park etc), trash the place and go home. No respect for others or our environment. People are going to the beach because there's nothing else to do, when more places open up they're spread out more. And as for rubbish that's the council's job, if not enough bins can't blame people. They will be begging them to come soon.

Are you are the types who dump your rubbish for other people to clear up?

Are you are the types?

Is that like a double negative?"

I think the second 'are' was dumped there by a fly tipper.

I think the rioting is the fly in the ointment.. they know they can't stop it and frightened to enforce a lockdown they cannot police.. if we have a long hot summer it will erupt.. Police running away. Not seen that before..

I think the police will have less and less control this summer ...

"I don’t how Labour would have done things differently since March but they are a bit less isolationist than the tories so I can only assume that they would have collaborated and paid more attention to what other countries were doing.

The lack of PPE is the result of ideological decisions from a party that is obsessed with savings and that had been cutting corners since 2010."

how does any of that keep people off the beaches?

he isnt wrong

if you want to be pedantic the furlough pay is to protect jobs, but the jobs need protected because the employees and customers are meant to be social distancing to stop the virus so it amounts to the same thing ...

it shouldn't take much to work out that if you are being paid to stay home because its unsafe to be in your workplace or school undistanced , its just as unsafe if not more so to pile onto a beach with half a million people

"one wonders are the govt going to close attractions at Barnard castle to stop idiots breaking covid 19 restrictions ? sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander

Old news !

Still relevant news,

Done and dusted...move on

simple question, what was Cummings punishment for breaking the lockdown rules?

There was no punishment...did you expect him to be punished?

Exactly, no punishment, do you agree with what he did? Less ‘important ‘ people were fined for doing the same, he couldn’t even manage an apology .

I dont agree with many things that have happened during this pandemic but i concentrate on keeping myself and my family safe and not stress over things i cant change.

I'm not visiting beaches, planning to go to the pubs when they re open, not going into town ...im staying local and have done for the past 4 months.

I cant change what has happened only look forward to better times ."

Is the right answer! It beggars belief the number of poor decisions this government has taken during this pandemic.

The message should have been to stay local (say 10 miles) until the R number was much lower, like Scotland who have handled the messages much better in my view.

Even if you live in a tower block there can't be many places that don't have a park or some countryside within 10 miles or so!

The genie has been let out of the bottle now though and it seems likely there will need to be local lockdowns again because of the stupidity/selfishness of many people, coupled with government incompetence.

Stay alert, guys (whatever the hell that's supposed to mean?)......

"I can srr that some individual beaches could be shut due to an emergency but it's impossible in an island with the size of our coastline to shut down all.

Like a Mexican wave, people in crowdef places spread out but ned additions will cause everyone to readjust their spacing, with a ripple effect.

Not impossible to shut all the beaches down we did it in 1939 using miles of barbed wire, kept them pesky Germans out.

Ah the war and the bloody Germans. I didn’t expect to read about the war in this thread but the Brits so obsessed with the war that even a thread about thousands of cretins congregating in Bournemouth is enough to bring up the subject..."

If it's raining at any beach like it is my way, then I have a wee feeling that the beaches won't be crowded today

If it’s the only strategy we have to make sure that beaches are not rammed, it’s a bit thin I’d say.

Put a limit on the distance people can travel and that’s the end of that nonsense.

It’s going to be fun when the pubs reopen. The great and world beating British common sense will be exposed and admired throughout the world.

"you are assuming that there will be a vaccine or a cure. this may never happen, can we really carry on like this indefinitely.still no vaccine for covid 12 (sars) remind me how long ago that was ? "

Thankfully SARS mutated and became pretty much harmless and kinda disappeared....

"one wonders are the govt going to close attractions at Barnard castle to stop idiots breaking covid 19 restrictions ? sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander

this is such a childish reaction... if your pals are playing chicken in the middle of the road do you want to join in too ?

Terrible analogy , for starters Cummings has no friends, secondly , he helped create and promote the very rules he himself broke . Do what I say not what I do

and continued childish reaction

its not about cummings or what pals he has, its about your safety and the safety of others around you that you care about ... by spitting out the dummy its not cummings you get back at or put at risk , its you and the people you care about and that is why you should grow up and pay attention to the rules that are for your own good , nobodys is asking you to have respect for cummings or the government , but try having some for your family and community "

Absolutely well said, Dear....!

Thank you.

"Matt Hancock warns he has the power if a spike in infection rates occurs. "

Matt Hancock and this government have all the assertive authority as a supply teacher.

No surprise with their do as I say, not as I do attitude.

To think these fucktards have been tasked to get us through covid and out of the EU

"Whilst I don't agree with those that have abused the furlough scheme there is no way to ascertain how many of those at the beaches etc. were actually on the scheme..

I myself have been furloughed, not for the reasons some here seem to think, but simply to try and protect my job after all this is over which to my knowledge was why the scheme was actually brought in..

its easy to take a guess that most were furloughed, because the ones that aren't would have been at work what with it being the middle of the week "

It's easy to assume but difficult to prove I would say as people take the day off/take holidays/go sick etc. as easily during these times as they do whenever we get good weather.

Once again, as in so many threads, let's just blame those on furlough

I read somewhere pubs will be limited to 30 people

And all details taken on entry

sounds like a good idea

Nope

Why did the original SARS epidemic come to end? Well, SARS-CoV-1 did not burn itself out. Rather, the outbreak was largely brought under control by simple public health measures. Testing people with symptoms (fever and respiratory problems), isolating and quarantining suspected cases, and restricting travel all had an effect.

SARS-CoV-1 was most transmissible when patients were sick, and so by isolating those with symptoms, you could effectively prevent onward spread. Nearly everybody on the planet would remain susceptible to SARS in the decades following its disappearance.

Enter COVID-19

It is clear that our response to SARS-CoV-1 led to the extinction of that lineage of viruses in humans. But we also knew that very similar viruses continued to exist in bats. It's possible that a very closely related SARS-like virus could emerge in the not-too-distant future.

Of course, this is what happened in late 2019, when SARS-CoV-2 jumped into humans. In a few short months it had erupted into a pandemic, infecting millions of people worldwide and killing around 1% of those infected. While this new human coronavirus is distinct from the original SARS virus, is it related.

In a similar timeframe to the original SARS, SARS-CoV-2 has proved to be more contagious but seemingly less deadly than its cousin was nearly 20 years ago. An additional—and critical—concern is that SARS-CoV-2 is efficiently spread before people get sick. This makes traditional symptomatic-based public health restrictions, which worked well for SARS, largely incapable of containing COVID-19.

Challenges in eradication

In essence, this ease of transmission means that SARS-CoV-2 is infinitely more challenging to control. We also have a poor understanding of whether catching and recovering from COVID-19 completely prevents you from catching the virus again and passing it on to others. Together, these factors mean that SARS-CoV-2 will most likely settle into the human population, becoming an endemic virus like its coronavirus cousins that are major causes of colds every winter.

okay if you can find evidence of the last time that half a million people piled onto bournemouth beach and they had to flag a major incident MIDWEEK then i will buy your story about people just taking annual leave/ sick days ... until then i think you are kidding yourself on if you dont believe most of them were there because furlough has given them the luxury of additional free time off

and just so you know follow the green arrow, i have been more than supportive of furlough on many posts, thats not what i have an issue with, just the idiots that think its a free for all when its in place to keep their job safe when the alternative choice would be job or health ... i am not naive enough to think all people on furlough act like this nor am i implying that

but the scenes on the beach were proof that a number of people think they can have their cake and eat it
