Do you think we will start to find out about this soon? Think it's going to be tough considering the amount of places that wont stick to the guidlines and think this could be a downfall.. Hopefully i'm wrong

The government has drip fed us that physical distancing changes will be announced this week, reducing from 2m to 1m. These would likely be introduced from the July 4th date that pubs and restaurants can open, helping them to be more likely profitable.

We don't know for sure until it's announced but it could be launched earlier, such as later today, Tuesday. It would give a couple of weeks or so for pubs to alter their layouts, get new signs and training done.

1m is going to be a little similar to some prior habits, away from places that were rammed.

They've thrown the option of customer registration around. It could be viewed as a way of calming those who are concerned about sustained gatherings of people this soon.

If they're that worried they can stay home, no one is forcing anyone to go out, but for those who do want to let em

No confirmed date for a second spike. It may never even occur.

Everyone acting normal by getting back to work and socialising in respective bubbles, as per the guidance from the experts.

Vulnerable people's lives are valued as they are still continuing to shield.

I tend to agree. It's upto individuals if they want to go out or stay in, free choice. As long as people do their best to respect other people space then we should all be fine. Guidelines are exactly that, a guide to how to interact. Interpretation into your own lifestyle is your choice.

I think this is what’s messing with my head.

Yes it worries me, so I stay at home.

But I still have to go to the shops and work etc. and the same people that decide not to stay in or keep to social distancing rules go there too......

Pubs will likely be asked to clock people in and out...for track n trace reasons and to limit numbers.

The WHO guidance has always been 1m and this distance has been used by most countries....most with far better results than we have had.

There is increasing evidence that the economic and HEALTH damage being done by "lockdown" is starting to be greater than the virus.

Either way it's a balance I wouldn't want to call....

My local radio station had a whole programme yesterday on how our restaurants will be opening.

Apparently from middle of July, most of the city centre restaurants and bars will be open Al fresco. They are closing off 2 of the main streets to cars to make space for tables and chairs. Tables can be booked for up to 6 people. Tables will be 2 meters apart and payment will be contactless.

It's going to be a trial. If it works then great, if it doesn't then sadly some of the places will shut for good.

I can't see it working, but I hope I'm wrong.

Trying to guilt people for craving some sort of normal is not ok. Supporting vulnerable people has been at the heart of lockdown so society does value vulnerable people, but we can't hide away forever and need to ease out of this. Before you cry what do I know....quite a bit, as I am front line and have have seen more deaths in the last few months than I care to mention. Do I crave a new normal? Hell yes! Am I going to be shamed cos of it - NO!

To debate this a little. In the context that I have largely followed the guidelines I think I have done as much as reasonably possible to not help spread the virus. It's ridiculous though to suggest that we should do everything to the nth degree to preserve Granny and grandad's Life.

They've had a good innings, if I was 70+ I'd look back on my life and think, yeah I had a good innings. it's time to let the young have the chance of life and an economy that gave me the opportunities in life that I had. Even at 58 I think like that.

I often talked to my mum, who was in her 90s about this before she died and although she fought to the very end for her last breath thought exactly the same. Maybe that's why I think like I do. You can't expect the young to sacrifice everything for us, it's just doesn't make any sense.

So no every single life cannot be saved at a cost of Billions of pounds and untold misery for people's mental health. It's just not viable

The trouble is if they don't open them up soon the kids will just make their own entertainment and trash the countryside and cause mayhem everywhere.

We had an attempted rave near chasewater last saturday. Luckily the police got wind of it and shut the village down but there were blue flashing lights everywhere and it must have been a close run thing.

Actually it's 1m +

Following a review, the Prime Minister has also set out that where it is not possible to stay two metres apart, guidance will allow people to keep a social distance of ‘one metre plus’. This means staying one metre apart, plus mitigations which reduce the risk of transmission.

1m+ means businesses and people should obey 2m distancing unless not possible. I doubt any business will observe this. No pub is going to obey the 2m even though they could. Economically they will just go with a max of 1m.

It's been announced that we can have 1m distance, via 1m+ as Johnson calls it, if there are mitigating factors, such as screens.

I think the pubs have been installing these ready. Not long until the 4th July.

Sounds like some halfwitted surreal poem from the dark ages, either that or a line or three from some pretentious goom-bah song............(?!)

My opinion....., naturally.

"Some woman on sky news now worrying about pubs/restaurant and GDPR....

They will need to know who is in and when for track and trace reasons ...obviously

Dunno about you...but if I book a table at restaurant...they always ask for name and number anyway.

I tend to drink in 2 (occasionally a 3rd) pub....most people there know my name and a fair few my number....where's the problem?"

Hmmm as a club we are legally required to register with ICO for data protection - I'll bet not many pubs or Restaurants are.

If people feel so strongly about this and catching it, then they should stick to shielding, not going to the pub.

Personally I'm not too bothered about the pubs, but I understand some love them. We're all getting to the stage people should make their own judgements about what they deem safe and what is not. I enjoy some extreme sports and take the risk everytime, but it's a risk I enjoy taking.

The virus is not one I would enjoy risking and t for those more at risk then I can't understand why they would take that risk, I'd be doing everything I could to shield myself.

Not worth it for a pint, I'm sorry

I expect The Westminster Arms in Storeys Gate SW1 will be busy. Open for those little trysts away from the Houses of Parliament campus and the bars that have ears! I'll bet there are any number of our representatives and peers wanting a libation. And of course the politicos of our wonderful press for off-message mistakes.

Before covid i was in the pub most days - to eat or drink tea and read as i dont drink

when going through tough times it was one way of me to get out of the house and have some food (i dont cook)

Obviously over last few weeks have had to change that

i wont be rushing back to pubs but at times still miss - esp if was meeting a friend for lunch and a decent catch up

everyone has to make their own decisions

in the same way that for someone who used to to the cinema three or four times a month i wont be rushing back there either

but i hope the changes work
