"Signed off by the heads of public health in all 4 nations of the UK. Seems to be that there has been a wait for the scientific evidence. No doubt some in government would have gone earlier otherwise." That's why it's good news. They waited for the science and the CMOs are in agreement. Hopefully, it'll become a habit.

"More good news just on BBC. Birmingham NHS trusts have ZERO patients in ICU (having previously being highest in country). Their CMO also stated that the virus seems to have got weaker as far fewer patients confirmed positive are getting serious symptoms. Suspicion is that virus could be mutating....as SARS did and becoming less dangerous. Fingers crossed...." I've been saying that to a few people, it could easily just die out, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. One thing about this pandemic, it's taught me to appreciate my life more and that I'm actually a pretty positive person. For all the bad that it brought, it's also shown up some of the world's kindest people.

Not officially announced being the key expression as until then "a reporter saying she had it confirmed by cabinet" means nothing to my way of thinking. I'll wait for the official announcement I think

"It's not gone, we've just gotten to the point where the measures have flattened it out. Everyone waiting for some magical all clear before 'playing' again is gonna be waiting for a while. It'll be with us for some time to come in one form or another and it's going to be up to individuals, not websites, to determine their own risk. If you're willing to suck a bunch of random cocks you're at a higher risk of disease than the average bear anyway. The thing everyone ignores is the number of lives that will be lost by continuing with a hard lockdown. It's likely to be many more than COVID will take, so as cold as it sounds we can't keep living like this as a society indefinitely." Thanks for your wonderfully positive post on a thread titled good news.

"If we do have a second wave in the autumn or winter what are the chances of us going back into a lockdown though?" Cant see it..this one has caused too much upheaval. They may target certain areas if there is a spike but cant even see how that would work. Fingers crossed we are coming out of a long dark tunnel. Hopefully a vaccination isnt too far off. Think we need a return to some sort of normality. The past few months have been surreal.

The leak will almost certainly be reliable in this case.

I mean, you say you do, but evidence to the contrary and all that... By your logic there are plenty of 'negative' threads you could post in to boost morale. You could even start a thread saying everything is hunky dory in the world. Doesn't make it so or invalidate differing opinions. As to a positive mental attitude making lives better, that's not always the case. A false sense of security can be dangerous, so until such time as Fab outlaws free speech I'll share my thoughts as I see fit thanks.

"I'm sure they said the daily death total was now back to yearly average numbers but I can't find a link. " But a very substantial number of those deaths are from Covid 19 Yes good news, the situation seems to be stable but the number of infections and deaths is not reducing quickly enough for complacency. And the virus may be mutating and becoming less dangerous, that would be great, but there is little evidence given that most people are still taking precautions and the numbers are just stable.
