I have received this morning a letter from DHSC/Imperial Collage/Ipsos MORI/NHS inviting me to take an Covid-19 Antigen Test (not a Covid-19 virus test) for 'research'. I have filled in the online form and they will be sending me a test kit. Test takes about 2/3 days I understand. I will be pleased to know if I am clear or may have resistance to the bug.

Has anyone else received such a letter and, if so, would they do the test?

The antigen test is for the virus RNA ie have you got it now/very recently

The ‘immunity’ /have you had it is the antibody test

The ONS are testing thousands of ‘well’ people every week across the UK to try to estimate how much is around - this may be part of something like that

Well it had an NHS sign on the envelope and a letter like you get now and then from medical trials. I suppose anyone could produce those

Obviously, we couldn't open the mail, so returned it to sender.

However, there was an article in a newspaper in the past week saying that the NHS is currently engaging on a COVID19 related Postal campaign.

MORI has been involved with the NHS in related Surveys, both for NHS Staff & Patients since 2000.

Thus, it looks like it is genuine.

I've just done some checking online and found this is a legit Home Testing survey being conducted by the NHS.

The programme rolled out from last month, to 100,000 people chosen at random across the UK from GP Surgery records.

Recipients are given instructions what to do in relation to the survey.

With regards to the guy at our place, he didn't inform his local GP here that he was going back home abroad.

If they're looking for a trend, rather than individual results, they may pool the samples so they wouldn't have results for individuals.

Research purposes on the efficacy of antibodies is the rationale, we are giving patients their results as usual, quite interesting results so far

I did the antibody test clinic for our staff the other week and on the form it said the purpose was for "surveillance". Our company still gathering all the data from other sites and I'm curious as to what the data shows.

You seem to know more than me... Is there any evidence that if you develop antibodies you have any level of immunity and for any period of time? Last I read, whilst assumptions are made that antibodies will provide a level of protection... There is currently know information if that might be for a week a month a year... Anyone have any better info?

And yes I'd do the test.

It’s not been around long enough to be sure. but

In previous coronavirus outbreaks eg MERS and SARS

The antibodies hung around for over a year

And when given as treatment in the lab killed the virus

Trials using those antibodies as treatment in humans for covid are happening now

Just thought you'd like to know (but probably didn't)....

I received the test kit yesterday and did the test today. Quite simple and the result show that I probably do not have Covid-19 antibodies and thus have probably not been infected. I found the most difficult part of the test was taking a picture of the test strip due to my unsteady handling of my smartphone. I dreaded the pinprick needed to draw blood for the test a little daunting but in practice it didn't hurt. But little blood came out at first so I had to use the spare provided for a second attempt. Then the bloomin' stuff got everywhere.
