From a economic stand point that would be financial suicide for the economy.....

Think of China as the heart of the global economy.....

Slavery is a economic system.... that would be phased out by the industrial revolution.....

Telling a country what they should eat is a social standard.... Should Hindu’s in India tell the citizens of the UK not to eat beef? Because they find it socially , morally and religiously wrong....

Do you see the difference?

Here comes xenophobia again.. There is nothing in that article mentioning it being a live food market. It's a wholesale market like the thousands that exist around the world. There are multiple outbreaks around the world and here is another one. They are testing thousands of people (much more than the UK) in the area, locking it down and reporting it to the world.

It's down to price. We can't manafacture things for less than China. Even with the shipping fees china is still way cheaper than if we made things here on our doorstep.

The world will probably always be reliant on China to deliver the goods for as long as they can get away with child and forced labour.

The market sells vegetables and a wide range of produce. It's a different type of market to the Wuhan wet market.

If you expect to be free to be a uk citizen, with your own customs, then it's reasonable to grant the same liberties for others. The country they live in has severe control over the people, compared to us. It's tyrannical leadrrs that should be under the spotlight for attention. The wet markets were subjected to some constraints and closures. The people are part of our problem, we have had impact on their lives, which has seen massive building growth measures intrude closer to wildlife.

Yes, the NHS will be the real prize because the cost of importing food from the USA will probably make it uncompetitive.

The USA insurance and pharmaceutical companies however are probably salivating at the thought of the profit potential available from the UK.

Can't expect the government to stand in their way either, because they've been dying to sell of the NHS for decades.

You are correct, other countries do manufacture electronic circuit board components

Hong Kong, China and Taiwan account for nearly 50% of all components globally, so it’s fair to say most, if not all mobile phone manufacturers supply chain will rely on those countries components .

Samsung Lithium batteries - made in China

Samsung moving to Chinese ODM factories in a bid to reduce costs as margins are squeezed.

(Last year a fifth of samsung phones were produced by Chinese ODMs with this number planned to increase)

Yeah. To summarize that article:

The trade deal will allow substandard/dangerous food into the UK.

Our own local standards will drop to compete.

The bill will also make it illegal to label these differences on packaging.

We’re ‘compensating’ by adding tariffs to the imports.

But these will be dropped within a decade.

The trade bill is exempt from parliamentary scrutiny or voting.

The deal will likely be enforced by an offshore tribunal.

That means the UK can be sued.

Food standards are step one in this plan, the NHS is likely next.

"it was south korea a few weeks back who shutdown again but no media coverage ... Germany had a spike again no media coverage

Exactly why no one trusts the fake/no real news media

There is no such thing as fake media..its a figment of that balloon in Washingtons imagination"

No fake news?

Lets see.. remember how the Sun reported the Hillsborough disaster?

If you truly believe everything that BBC, CNN, the sun, Daily mail etc tell you, i have genuine concern for you.

We're in this mess because the Tories and New Labour felt that doing away with the bulk of our manufacturing industries and having an economy built on the service sector and fuelled by a credit bubble based on house prices was a good idea.

It wasn't - and the Chinese aren't to blame. If you think boycotting everything from China is a good idea, you really don't understand economics.

"It's always food related in China, they really need to sort out their food standards laws. I don't think we import food from China so should be ok. "

It is not food related it is warehouse related.

The outbreak was in a warehouse an distribution area. Which of course like any urban distribution centre includes food.

Use a more reputable source than sky news for contextual information

How do you demand anything from anyone? An American woman killed a Brit on UK soil and has escaped any punishment. China is too big and influential now. There would need to be international sanctions by multiple nations. Who is going to be brave enough to stand up? One nation doing so would be cutting own nose off to spite your face. The world is harsh and unfair.

"The world needs to clamp down on food hygiene standards and hit China hard

And poverty?

Child labour?

Fgm?

And a thousand other things we find abhorrent?

Kids scavenging for food in India?

Are those things ok because they dont affect us in our ivory towers?

I'm talking about food hygiene standards. I don't get your point about other things.

My point is that its easy for us in our affluent society to point fingers

Apportion blame

Im vegetarian. I find EATING meat disgusting, but I also understand that alot of Chinese people arent as fortunate as me

And do you really think that the UK is blameless? That our food chain is untainted by cruelty and unsavoury practices?"

Surely it would make more sense for less affluent societies to make their standard of food safety more stringent, so they don’t have to spend even more money on the effects of food spoilage or food poisoning?

Also- we may not be perfect- but even the poorest among us know to treat animals humanely. We have huge protocol for the killing of animals for food in this country. We certainly don’t throw them into boiling oil while they are still alive, we don’t cut up their bodies on the floor while we splash around in their blood in our wellies and we don’t drag live animals out of over cramped cages to hand over to customers to do with them what they will. To argue that lack of “fortune” causes cruelty is an insult to the poor. It’s not poverty- its cruel ignorance. And it’s not defensible.

I think, and I have no qualifications in the field if history is that all nations do bad shit and because of power or dependancy the rest of the world still goes with it..

China has too much influence, in Africa etc and its land grabbing in the south China seas is wrong..

And don't start me on how they are treating people in their own country, camps that stalin would have given the nod to..

But they hold a lot of cards and the west has become addicted to cheap goods so maybe we should post this and brexit start to mske such things ourselves if we are happy to pay more for it..

I bet most of all the raw materials and components come from China

Not all - some do but they also come from Germany India Mexico Estonia USA Thailand Russia Japan Korea Singapore UK Vietnam Philipines Malaysia . . . there are more but . . .

Who has the most rare earth minerals in the world?

John Smith from Nova Scotia?

Close..... But China controls the market on rare earth minerals followed by the Democratic republic of the Congo.....

Interesting fact but . . .

But . . . some materials in your Samsung phone come from china but also come from Germany India Mexico Estonia USA Thailand Russia Japan Korea Singapore UK Vietnam Philipines Malaysia . . . there are more but . . .

Here is the problem , you are looking at China’s culture with western glasses... I’ve lived in a few countries in Asia , so I have a little more incite....

China’s greatest problem since the beginning of their history has been how to feed their people... They have had more Famines that any other nation...

So eating anything for survival is in their culture...

I’ve had many d*unk conversations with Chinese business men that cried , telling me about their childhood..... some had nothing to eat but sweet potatoes or rats from the fields....

It’s not like that now , but I hope that helped...

I'm non partisan

But a cross party government makes the most sense to me.

I think most democratic nations have a lack of political options. Its usually a two horse race.

We need more choice that will force political compromise and better policies .

Instead of 8years of red policies then 8 years of blue policies.

China only escapes that definition due to how wealthy some individuals are in China.

The fast majority of the nation still live in poverty by the standard of European living.

Should China take lesson in human right from America?

With Guantanamo Bay, indiscriminate drone strikes on foreign soil and the blm movement to name a few.

He is an idea maybe all governments not matter what flag they fall under are corrupt as shit.

Power corrupts and

absolute power corrupts absolutely

Just for perspective...... what is the ideal government in your opinion?

I'm non partisan

But a cross party government makes the most sense to me.

I think most democratic nations have a lack of political options. Its usually a two horse race.

We need more choice that will force political compromise and better policies .

Instead of 8years of red policies then 8 years of blue policies.

"

Very true.....people have tried many times to run independently but unfortunately it just never works out.....

I believe Switzerland has the best government in the world.... check out how they elect their leaders and how every citizen has to vote on any proposal before it’s pasted into law.....

That our food chain is untainted by cruelty and unsavoury practices?

And it’s not defensible."

Are you sure we dont do those things?

No expensive restaurant in the UK has ever put a live lobster into the pot?

I think your batshit crazy if you think Covid came from bat soup or a food market.

How many of you are going to rush to be injected with your Certificate Of Vaccination ID.

There is a difference between puttting a lobster to sleep first and just chucking it into a poy of boiling water!

The chinese will just chop something up alive before cooking it

There is always a difference, when that difference suits us.

The UK cannot claim to be whiter than white
