Air b and b are offering accommodation from 6th July. Is it best to wait until nearer the time to book as the payment is non refundable. Anyone heard any more news about hotels/tourism opening for uk visitors to places like Cornwall or New Forest?

I run a hotel, near Gatwick, 4the july is the date ear marked for reopening the hotels, however I think most (especially independent ones like mine) are doing different dates, probably best to check locally on websites etc.

There hasnt been any official word about how hotel rooms should be set out etc. We are waiting until end of july so we can see how other hotels are faring and see what measures they have in place.

According to air b n b, they taking bookings for July onwards but the payment is non refundable. I don't wish to see £400 go to waste because the government changes the goal post about non essential travelling

I would stay away from hotels air b n b that are saying non refundable especially in these circumstances everywhere should be refunding not like it's our fault we can't trust the government xx

I have an Airbnb place booked in July and the refund policy is up to a day before

They’re taking bookings from July 4th

I agree, I would definitely wait.

However we was told by one of our channels we use back in april when they thought hotels was reopening in may, anyone booking hotel rooms now (or then) know the risk and if they book a non-refundable room then its essentially there fault.

Weve kept all our rooms off until the end of july so no one can book, weve been doing it on a month by month basis.

Weve refunded every single guest that has cancelled (or offered vouchers if they wanted but no one has taken up that offer lol).

I would definitely wait until the government makes a proper announcement and also be mindful that a stay in a hotel etc wont be the same as before.

I wouldn't use an inflexible no-refundable booking service atm, as I'd perceive them as loading all risk on to me, so that they gain at my expense and my risk. They'd appear to be the worst of our capitalist culture.

Other big chains are letting people book without risk, which shows respect for us and the difficult circumstances. I'd check if alternatives exist, until we know if the plans are going ahead.

I would be very dubious about Airbnb, as you have no idea how clean the premises are before you got there.

Not just dirt and dust, but antibacterial cleaning.

The hotel where I work had, when lockdown commenced, a whole series of advance room bookings spread across the year.

Each booking was taken (then) with an automatic pre-payment.

What we have done is to be fair to everyone, as a point of good customer relations. That is, at the start of each month, we refund those credit or Debit card payments.

Regarding when hotels open, the consensus appears to be within the industry, the bigger groups or chains are going to open as and when they can, but are working on what they anticipate will be the social distancing regs required by the Govt.

But these large groups have some financial flexibility in reserve to adjust to changes in Govt reality.

But smaller hotels which don't have as much financial reserves are holding back, so they can plan only once the Govt guidelines are announced.

Add in a lot of older properties within hotel or pub environments are considerably old. Thus, there are complexities in installing Social Distancing facilities which obviously weren't factored in at the time the buildings were constructed.

My hotel is over 300 years old, plus has listed status. We have to abide by certain legal constraints, even for COVID19 rules.

We are waiting to open at the start of August so we can adapt to what is required whilst meeting legal building rules.
