Playgrounds and shops opening BUT

I’m so confused at this approach from the U.K. government opening up randomly .

Now, I totally get the shops, as we need to get the economy moving. But I’m so confused at why they would open play grounds like Indoor skate parks, trampoline play grounds etc and zoos (okay the last I can kinda get as its almost Entirely outdoors)

But still absolute nothing when it comes to restaurants and cafes (limiting maybe number of seatings and keeping distant)

It’s so confusing this way of grading the reopening.

Maybe not would agree with me, but seems like indoor playgrounds would be just as, or worse than a restaurant if we talk about contact, if we compare them...

Very few people sit still for possibly hours at a time at playgrounds.

You need to understand the thinking behind virus transmission.

Because they know that it’s all breaking down because people will only obey the rules for so long before saying fuck-it!

I mean what’s the point of clothes shops opening ?

You will have to que up for ages just to get in and then will not be name to try cloths on because they will then have to sanitise them all over again.

But you can guarantee that there will be loads of people going to the shops anyways

if Chester zoo doesn't reopen very soon they will have to put down thousands of endangered animals. They have 100s of acres of outdoor space, so why shouldn't they open?

with a one metre rule restaurants and pubs with outdoor areas (and maybe indoors soon) will hit break even or better to justify opening. the leisure and hospitality industry is such a crucial part of the economy it needs to happen very soon

as for shops, bricks and mortar retail in certain sectors is doomed imho. the silver surfers have got the hang of this online shopping thing and wont go back

Well I was watching this interview of this business on the BBC about this indoor style skate park and also this business that they had this type of wooden castle for kids to play with and run around, looked like inside a gym and they were saying they were happy to reopen and that they got given the go ahead

Has anyone seen it this morning??

Now; maybe I missed something and got it wrong but either way, Whoever said about transmission, I’m sorry I’d feel safer sitting at a restaurant distant to others, than being in a playground castle with kids touching everywhere, and then me touching everywhere.. and potentially ending up being close, because kids... and they wanna play. (Rightfully so)

I’m baffled!

So potentially these business have the outdoors facilities then, in the interview somehow they only showed the inside parts

I wasn’t aware that playgrounds were opening! Outdoor zoos can open but indoor attractions such as aquariums or reptile centres have to stay closed!

As for restaurants, how many restaurants do you know with every single table at least 2m apart? I don’t know any! There is no way that restaurants will be able to ensure social distancing as it stands now and unless the distance changes I can’t see them being allowed to open anytime soon

They can deliver the animals to the homes of the people who sponsor them. All zoos have animal sponsors . I am expecting a lion cub to arrive by Amazon any day now .

while i am not the person to answer the virus transmission questions, i think the point the poster was making was you have to understand them to understand the logic of what is opening, the goverment have those experts and that knowledge you and i dont

your personal perception that you would feel safer in one setting than another doesn’t necessarily mean you would be safer, just means you personally would be happier to do it , and you can just avoid the things they open that dont make you feel safe

No one can understand because the government policies have been shit and to slow.

Whatever your political leanings just look at the comments above. Some people thinking you can do this others thinking you can do that. Unclear policies is a failure of the leadership

We should ask Cummings lawyers...they seem to know how to make the rules apply to whatever the situation

I understand that, following what’s happening to other neighbouring countries, like France or Spain or Italy. They have used a different approach, I guess we have still a higher number of infections compared , they have been ahead of us a month or more. ( and May I remind you, our lock down maybe started 10 days after them)

I have friends and know people in the continent, and I guess the approach of some of these countries seem less odd compared to what’s happening here, that’s all I’m saying.

It has been very much a “ you could do this, but not that, do this but can’t do that, allowed x not allowed Y” approach. Just weird!!

Exactly, thank you! That’s exactly what I mean, it has been pretty confusing and interpretable throughout. Hence why the confusion even more of this decision of zoos and playgrounds AND EVEN some primary schools...totally okay. Other things, totally not okay.

But as you said, the confusion and interpretation comes in from the top .. so...

we are not and will never be these countries you are watching on the continent opening restaurants, we can’t really be compared ... the very least of the reasons being weather

the majority of their restaurant openings rely on the ability of customers to be on outside terrace areas ... something much more commonly in place in warm countries and the weather for using them can also be better relied upon

many restaurants here don't have that outdoor space to start with and even if they do while they might have been able to take customers last week this week it is pissing down ... would you expect them to adapt week to week and the government to have to try support on furlough/ off furlough weather dependant (imagine being the staff member with no clue if you are working day to day depending on if the clouds show up) or would you rather they took their time to find a sustainable solution that actually works for our country?

It will come but I suspect they are still working on how best to allow this. So maybe they are reviewing what is happening in italy and Spain before they provide guidance.

Actually, that’s not true regarding them purely relying on the fact of a good weather (which hasn’t been so great even in the continent btw as it’s been raining) so you are able to eat outside, as I said, I know people who have explained their experiences on what’s happening over there,

and if the restaurant is big enough, they would keep the tables distant enough, while reducing the number of seatings. You can’t hang in there for hours (time slots), and you need to book in advance.

Agree to disagree, but to me , the government has been doing things very randomly, from start to finish..

You keep your opinion that they are doing Amazing, and that opening skate parks and zoos is brill

read my post again and tell me where i mentioned zoos or skateparks or the government being amazing

you are not the only one that “knows people in europe” spain started with 50 % capacity OUTDOOR ONLY , it then increased that in the next phase and only now are they beginning to allow people indoors to bars or restaurants

the table booking is being applied by the bars and restaurants themselves (with group size and spend per group size usually set out in advance) to ensure they can turn around tables to make sure they are actually making money rather than becoming an area for people to come together just to socialise

at the end of the day just because you want bars to be open and have decided you think its safe, doesn’t mean its the right time

What I said was, it’s baffling how there’s such a selection of what’s safe and what’s unsafe. It’s confusing! What I thought was odd today, was seeing this business that clearly had an indoor gym type of park, and that was deemed safe. Or how they deem safe primary schools.

Anyway, hopefully it will be deemed safe in a couple of weeks
