I am but just when I am going in shops and on public transport as I think it is important to show respect to the shop keepers and the passengers. I have even seen drivers wearing one when they are alone in the car. I cant see the logic in that one, can you?

Very few seem to down here - we had a friend come down who commented that where he was if you were not wearing a mask at the shops you were glared at - here it seemed to be the other way round the mask wearers are seen as the odd ones out

There could be a justified reason for alone in the car.

Carers are being allocated 2 masks a day unless they have to remove them to drink or eat etc. So they wear them going from client to client. It's safe to do so

No.

I don't use public transport and until they become compulsory in supermarkets I won't wear a face covering.

We've made some cotton, Harry potter fabric, face coverings to fit (with a space to insert a filter) but only for worse case and so my autistic child gets familiar with them (in the hope they seem less scary) it was actually a fun home learning thing and she loves sewing

Not wearing one yet, not until I have to. Don't use public transport at present as still working from home. Also, I think we need more education about how to wear the face masks properly. Have seen people wearing the mask covering just their mouth but not nose, or people who are still wearing masks (lowered onto their chins) while smoking, drinking or eating. What's the point of that???

Not sat on my sofa lol and not mostly on the street. But if I were in a place like Chester with narrow walkways and such I would, and gloves too.

I always wear mask and gloves in supermarkets. I wear gloves at fuel pumps and payment machines. I use my phone to pay otherwise.

Wore one on the plane but had to.

Went to a food market at the weekend where it was advertised that you should wear masks so I took one along however only the stall holders wore them.

Staff in restaurants and bars are wearing full Perspex shields.

I carry mine with spare filters everywhere I go but not worn it yet. Don’t want tan marks

Will happily wear it if compulsory.

Not worn one yet but we over 60s are now advised to wear one when we shop in the supermarket.

I will take a mask with me when I shop tomorrow and if I get hostile looks will put it on, I would point out that I shop at 7 am and usually only see a couple of dozen other shoppers.

I've been wearing them when shopping. I take a few bits to my mum's neighbours who are quite old and wouldn't wanna pass anything on... I've found it gets a bit warm though if you wear them for too long.

If you are between places (like different shops etc) it's safer not to handle the mask and leave it on than it is to take it off and put it back on again.

Simple really.

Here's another question though . . . people who shop alone . . . are you more self conscious about wearing a mask than you would be shopping as a couple for example?

Would this stop you wearing a mask?

As for drivers wearing them consider it could be a company vehicle used by different people.

Or it's a Hired vehicle which some companies suggest wearing of a face covering.

Nope, and I work in a supermarket. About 20% of customers are wearing them, very few staff.

It amuses me when masked customers can’t make themselves understood - they then take the mask off and get really close to you to ask their question...........

If I have to venture out, I wear a mask. I feel like a bit of a tit as no one else seems to but it gets me in the habit of wearing it. If I'm finally allowed to visit vulnerable family, I'll no doubt be expected to wear masks (as their carers do).

Also, they stop me touching my face if I'm wearing one. I never go out without masks and hand sanitizer

I try to wear one where possible but they make me overheat and sweat so much! So then I end up touching my face which obviously defeats the purpose. If I am alone in an aisle I will lower the mask to my chin so I can breathe and get some air onto my face. I tried keeping it on during an entire shopping trip once and felt like passing out when I reached the tills.

I've started wearing a mask if shopping or in an otherwise enclosed space. I don't get the reluctance to? Even if it makes a small difference, it's worth it surely?

A friend in Spain says round where he is you get looked at weird if you're not wearing one. We should strive for the same, normalise the use. Oh and it's not about 'project fear' at all, it's about having empathy and consideration for others.

Masks are a second rate substitute for social distancing - I’d rather either be outside, or 2m away from someone without a mask than close with one

If the time comes where social distancing isn’t possible, eg work environments, having to travel on a busy tube etc then yes I would, but it would be because I can’t socially distance not because masks are as good as

As for gloves they are when when you put them on but the second you touch something they’re contaminated, and wearing gloves usually stops people hand washing or sanitising - as the CMO said the other day you’re better off with bare hands of someone who is washing/sanitising regularly than someone wearing gloves who has been touching everything with them

The staff are able to control the amount if people entering the store. Once inside people should take responsibility for maintaining social distancing, you can't expect staff to police that.

"Can't wait to see the reason for that question *popcorn*

Asbestos. Big, deadly particles. Needs disposable suits, eye protection, specialist air filtration.

Corona virus, unimaginable tiny particles.... stopped with a "surgical" mask. Or in some cases a home made mask.. pull the other one. "

They’ve done studies that show that a mask will help you to keep your germs to yourself if you have it. It’s not perfect, but it helps. That’s all we can do isn’t it?

"Everyone seems to remember the bit about 2 metres but seem to have missed the bit about 15 minutes.

The 15 min rule was quietly dropped about 3 weeks ago "

Someone had better tell Patrick Vallance then because he stated at the daily briefing this week.

theres been a warning issued

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a safety alert urging all employers and suppliers not to purchase or use KN95 facemasks.

HSE experts identified the PPE as suspect and locally arranged testing confirmed they would not meet requirements, including to protect against the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. About 90% of the PPE concerns and queries currently being received by the HSE involve KN95 masks which are often accompanied by fake or fraudulent paperwork.

Yep, wearing mine when in the shop. As driving in a mask goes - I don't take mine off in between shops if I need to visit more than one. So I drive wearing my mask from one shop to the next to prevent unnecessary touching. Take it off and sterilise it once I get home.

I wonder what they will do at border control at Heathrow - a few years ago when coming back from USA and transferring at Heathrow I was asked to remove my glasses by the passport control guy ( pre automatic machines ) - the woman behind me was wearing a Niqab - she was not aske dot remove it and sailed passed the check.

I wonder if face masks will be acceptable?

The trouble is that people are discarding their masks by just chucking them down on the floor, making the whole thing a farce because some poor sod has got to go and clean it up.

Not saying anyone in this thread does that, but I have seen disgraceful pictures of scores of masks thrown away on the pavement outside train stations and doctor's surgery. They are a blight on the landscape.

So if Masks are made compulsory where do you think Wayne and Waynetta Slob will be chucking their masks I ask ?

I see no reason why a regular person needs disposable masks. I have a cotton one that I made. It’s reusable. Any one wearing disposable masks and discarding them are a disgrace.

I think we should all be wearing them in shops public transport etc we are only in there for a relatively short time I think its a better precaution than anyone pretending that we are 2 metres distancing its impossible, thousands using supermarkets some are bound to have covid.I spray my hands with alcohol spray then spray the mask put it on then when I come out I do hands again take mask off and spray it then hands again it takes only a few seconds simple no problem.

If you're vulnerable a mask won't protect you from breathing virus in. Although it will stop you putting your contaminated fingers in your nose. You'd be more likely to contract the virus through your eyes, tear ducts etc.

"If I have to venture out, I wear a mask. I feel like a bit of a tit as no one else seems to but it gets me in the habit of wearing it. If I'm finally allowed to visit vulnerable family, I'll no doubt be expected to wear masks (as their carers do).

Also, they stop me touching my face if I'm wearing one. I never go out without masks and hand sanitizer "

Well said .

On another note , to the people who say they are pointless well 1% of something is better then 100% of nothing .

I wear one at work because it is compulsory but I would wear one anyway . There are thousands if not millions of people terrified of this virus so their actions should be respected if they feel the need to wear one . Nobody gets to have an opinion on someone else's health be it physical or mental . You have to do what makes you feel safer.

Stay safe and look after yourselves

I know whats coming. To offset lowering social distancing to 1 metre, masks will become compulsory in shops, pubs and public places. I can feel it in my bones. We are being softened up for it. If I was a shop owner I would be really annoyed having spend millions on little stickers and signs everywhere saying stay 2 metres apart.

How on earth we are supposed to drink my pint through a mask is beyond me though. I guess someone will invent a clever gismo to do it, patent it and make an absolute fortune out of our stupidity.

Hun, I'm well aware of the moisture issue. I'm well aware of the hand washing. I'm a carer. We are allocated 2 masks a day. And I do 12 hour shifts. So that means I do a whole morning in the same mask. 6 hours in the same house. I cant have a drink cos it means removing my mask. I then get half an hour to go do whatever before going between several homes in 1 mask. So much fun in the heat we've been having. So I've had to buy my own (not cheap I assure you). So yes we do keep a dry mask on between homes.

And sadly the oxygen deprivation is putting us at risk. But it's part of the job, during very tough times, in an industry that is always under funded.

And if you knew the truth of how long it took to get the full ppe we need, you'd be disgusted

You can't remove your mask while in the home of a client that's shielded so you can't drink. You have to enter the home with one on. So you can't drink in those 6 hour shifts. We keep them on in the car because we are allowed 2 a day or buy our own. I'm aware I can get them in b&m, but they aren't the quality of what I buy online. I cant afford to keep buying masks on minimum wage, none of us can, so we do what we can with what we are given. And believe me, we have all argued that 2 a day isn't enough, and we get told that 2 a day is what we get or buy our own as we are provided enough masks based on guidelines.

The minute a mask is removed its done, you can't even pull it down between clients unless you use a fresh one

I dont wear them in shops and wouldn't wear one unless I was in an enclosed space in close proximity to someone for a considerable period of time i.e 15 mins or so.

Also I work on a cruise ship and have seen the bad habits that result from the use of face masks. And the paper ones everyone wear are only effective for very short period of time once they become moist through breathing they offer no protection at all.

Also the use of gloves is more likekly to spread the virus on surfaces. Far far better to wash hands or use hand sanitiser.

Once you remove a mask, it's done. You can't put a used mask back on your face even if only off for 30 seconds.

We don't know if our clients are potentially carrying covid so the virus could be on the outside of the mask (hence the need to never touch the mask). That mask will dangle under our face close enough to potentially catch covid if the client is carrying the virus.

It's sad but true that right now, the ppl that should be shielding, often haven't. I've walked into many homes to find the cleaner is there, or a family member has dropped the shopping in and put it away without a mask on

Truth regards non surgical masks.

They build up co2 gas

They become a damp breeding ground for bacteria which you inhale.

The c19 virus spore are so minute, they pass through the fabric of the mask.

Safe?.quite the opposite!

The sheer number of people who don't understand the purpose of masks is staggering. They're not to prevent you from catching the virus, they're to contain YOUR germs so you don't pass the disease (that you might have without knowing it) to others!

Not wearing one isn't tough and brave, it's selfish.

I went shopping today, majority of people not wearing one as no need plenty of space to social distance.

However the ones that were were constantly touching them, adjusting them, not wearing them properly so likley to result in the increase transmission if they had covid.

What made me laugh the most was three couples all wearing them but not sanitising thier hands or trolly when they entered the store.

So please get off you high horse when you say by not wearing your being selfish, social distancing and good hand hygiene trumps a paper masks or a DIY mask any day.

What made me laugh the most was three couples all wearing them but not sanitising thier hands or trolly when they entered the store.

So please get off you high horse when you say by not wearing your being selfish, social distancing and good hand hygiene trumps a paper masks or a DIY mask any day.

Well said .... it’s not selfish !!!! I am struggling h with hay fever right now and no way am I wearing a mask !!!!"

A mask will keep the pollen out of your nose and keep your germs in when you sneeze

"Lot of bollocks - no I am not. The mask is about control and fear for the people.

Wednesday - world health org - came out and stated ‘asympomatic transmission is very very rare’

Why are we in lockdown again????? "

"I have had to from the start as I'm vulnerable and been told I might get another sheilding letter to keep me on till September I'm only allowed out to go to the hospital

If you're vulnerable a mask won't protect you from breathing virus in. Although it will stop you putting your contaminated fingers in your nose. You'd be more likely to contract the virus through your eyes, tear ducts etc. "

"The sheer number of people who don't understand the purpose of masks is staggering. They're not to prevent you from catching the virus, they're to contain YOUR germs so you don't pass the disease (that you might have without knowing it) to others!

Not wearing one isn't tough and brave, it's selfish.

Masks work similarly to the way that air purifiers do. The filter media in the mask traps particles and pollutants as you breathe. Typically, an allergy mask will be able to provide protection against common particle allergens like pollen, plant spores, pet dander, mold, house dust, and dust mites.

Except masks have big gaps down the side. The blue surgical masks we see are only prevent fluid transmission. If you want to prevent particles you need an FP3 mask and there expensive and hard to get hold of and difficult to breath for long periods in. The ones people are buying off of ebay and amzon with the removable filters are for a better word useless.

Also pollen isn't just a problem when it is breathed in it can also get into your eyes causing similar reactions. Add on alot of people with athsma have suffer from sever hay-fever mask make it harder to breath.

I have no intention of wearing a mask at all. I don't believe they are effective against C19 at all, result in breathing too much CO2 and I'm am not scared of the virus. I appreciate some want others to wear them on the basis it protects others but I don't believe it does.

I used to wear masks for work different masks for different operations. I’ve seen so many people wearing stuff over their face that wouldn’t prevent anything. Also lots of people not got the mask covering the mouth and nose total waste of time and my final gripe about masks is the amount I see laying on the ground when I walk our dog how fucking lazy can people be to drop masks or gloves in the street.
