I would suggest it is easier to maintain and enforce social distance measures when you population isnt in the tens of millions...and when one third of your total population live in one city/town. This isnt to denigrate what they have done, just a simple case of demographics. | |||

"Ah yes the island or to specific the two Islands in the middle of the Pacific with a tenth of our population but twice the land mass, they don't have anything like our economy that survives on global movement and hospitality and even so are almost bankrupt anyhow with no evidence that any spike won't happen anyway if they need to open up to import stuff to eat or make a living to eat or 3000 people a month dingy in or they have a train track to the next county. Yea let's just make out were new Zealand or Cambodia were nearly everybody works outdoors in a field, eats healthily and isn't a fat fucker or older than the current life expectancy and one problematic virus will tipple them over the edge. Maybe our population and demographics aren't the same and maybe just maybe or economy isn't either?."Why not just look at the infection graphs... all the countries worldwide who have ‘eradicated’ covid-19 have done so by going early, epidemiologists in the U.K. have been saying from day 1 we locked down after the point of no return... the common link between those nations that have managed a zero infection reality is they all shut down well before it and it left them with an achievable task to ‘Track and trace’. We where always chasing shadows and sadly have been proved wrong on our delayed approach. | |||

Interestingly one of my friends knows 3 welders who went over to contract there for a week who thought they’d pop into Tesco after getting off the ferry to get some beer as they couldn’t go to pubs etc... they where given their 14 day isolation to serve in prison after the Tesco staff called the police. As you say... the system worked. | |||

" They seem to have had a system that worked for their unique population, demographic and economy, with timely decisions, that have been strictly enforced and probably most importantly, supported by their population. No idea if they have a uni or two to throw in. But of course keeping infection rates low in the community enables lots of other things to happen with low risk. Once the infections get out of control, and we then send unis and schools back... It spreads further and faster... | |||
