For those that have booked holidays, whilst still under the covid19 restrictions, have you had to contact your travel insurers to see if you are still covered?

Personally we haven’t. But the way I’ve booked my flights all are refundable should I need to cancel them closer to the time. Albeit with a wait no doubt for the refund

I saw something on Martin Lewis about this, the way I understood it was that if you had an annual precovid policy and you renew then you would be covered.

So long as you keep renewing I believe you are covered.

I may be wrong but that was how I understood it.

Was supposed to be going to Disney World on 16th March which was exact day Disney closed! On top of which, broke up with gf 3 weeks ago. She's having the rescheduled holiday in the "divorce" but buying me out.

Thinking of taking some of the cash to take a mini trip to Disneyland Paris as can travel by car and make it a little bit safer. Not rebooking a Florida trip until vaccines sorted and USA more safe- not wasting that much money on going when half the attractions closed and having to wear mask in that hot weather.

New holiday insurance is now stating they won't cover for pandemic issues.

I'm lucky I have my annual one that renewed just before everything went tits up

I haven't booked anything new, as yet I'm still going to Florida this summer.

I would have usually booked for 2021 by now but owing to the Olympics being pushed back we will go in the opposite direction instead now.

If it's correct that the prices will be rock bottom I'll book something hot for Christmas + new year

The only reason I haven't booked December yet is that fear. Time will tell I guess. Once I've finished replanning August 2021 (we were supposed to fly to Hong Kong then on to Japan but the Olympics have moved back a year so Japan is now out) I'll start looking at Dec 2020.

It's main stream media predicting the prices will fall as confidence in the sky staying up is low.

No. I lived in Hong Kong (as a kid) and have been to Thailand etc but I've waited for my little ones to be older before venturing that way again.

The original plan was Japan for a week (Tokyo then Hiroshima) then over to Hanoi and down the East coast of nam before flying up to Shanghai and getting the train back to moscow. Hopefully we can delay it all just for a year though

We found Tokyo really interesting, spent a week there. Will return in future and explore the country a little more. We shall be in Vietnam this new year (all being well). Should be in Shanghai September but I’m doubtful on that one. Did Moscow two years ago, stayed right by Red Square, Lenin’s tomb was one of the highlights for me

I don't actually like flying but it is very important to us all to get out into the world and meet people.

We've staying in some places we'd rather forget but met people and learned things we'll never forget

We can't do big crowds for any duration so we stick to quieter places, hence why we'll only do Tokyo in a small chunk.

My son still uses Arabic and Tunisian phrases they learn so much and it's worth every penny

I can't see anyone being able to go on holiday until at least Spring 2021. It's all very well the UK Government saying we can travel, but not all countries are following the same guidance. Many countries are enforcing 2 weeks of quarantine, so even if you can get anywhere, you may not be allowed to go outside when you get there. And what about arriving back home into the UK, 2 weeks in quarantine also?

Nah reckon your estimation is well off. The world needs to start spinning again and travel/tourism is one of the biggest parts of that. The government will revise this quarantine thing soon, there’s already been talk of air bridges. I just think they don’t want to lose face so have gone ahead with it. It wouldn’t be enforceable anyway.

Saying that safest thing is to quarantine rather than test at point of entry, as a negative test does not mean to say the person won't show symptoms some days later.Professors from Hong Kong, Singapore and New Zealand all agree mass tourism is not a good idea at the moment because of the potential transmission of the virus. Think we all know that!

We’ve lost 3 trips already this year.....Borneo (rescheduled to 2021) a Vegas trip and a Dubai one.

The only extra one we’ve pulled the trigger on to book so far is skiing in Italy next Feb, but that’s a booked with points for both airline and accom deal, so cancellable right up to travel.

As for future pricing in later 2020/1, we are actually travel agents etc, so we’re keepIng a huge eye on the trends.

Our belief is that there will be some phenomenal deals to long haul destinations if you are flexible about routing, destinations and dates. However for school holidays, or specific locations with direct flights you’ll pay more.

Cruises will be cheap as chips (if you’re happy to take the risk - we would by the way) Places like Thailand and others in SE Asia will be great value.

Some airlines are offering really clever deals, but with Caveats and risk....

Etihad are offering a voucher right now (valid until 2022 I think) that adds +50% to its value. Effectively you give them £1000 and get £1500 in airfare value. They say it can be used on any of their product. They only risk is if they go bust.....

Qatar have one where you can buy a ticket, then exchange the final destination anywhere within 5000miles! Even the start destination could be changed within same country etc.

As for accommodation Cancun is certainly offering great pricing, unfortunately not seeing it yet with Desire or Temptations or we would have booked.

Finally Japan and others are actually offering to part fund your trips......

The Euro was Germanys way of taking over Europe.

If it cant win militarily then they can win if they control the financial markets.

Its backfired on them now so let's see what happens next.

Would love to go to PDI but will wait and see how things are with the virus and what restrictions are in place, in PDI, if any

Costa Blanca Spain...

We will be driving down to Spain on 1st July for our summer 6 weeks. A month later than usual and we will miss Cap d'Agde this year but better than nothing.

Did they not announce yesterday that Brits won’t be allowed in until 10th at the earliest?

Flying to lanzarote on 15th July.

Reckon its 60/40 in favour of happening. Flights were a fraction of the usual cost so calculated gamble. EHIC still valid thankfully.

Some "interesting" views on europe on here let's put it that way.

But long haul, god knows, think the business model forcrhst is totally screwed on the short term.

"Once we come out of Europe we won't be able to use EU hospitals for free. "

That is not correct. The UK paid £440m in 2018 to cover the costs of UK EHIC cardholders needing medical treatment in the other EHIC member countries. We charged the EU the grand sum of £14m for their residents using the NHS. Post Brexit EHIC participation is still to be decided.

They are travelling from Germany, so I don't think it applies.

Those figures are not quite correct the latest figures are 674 million and 50 million. Still a massive difference. Apparently the discrepancy is down to treatments being cheaper here and the NHS being worse at billing and recovering the money. All this is pretty irrelevant. If we leave with a deal then a good chance mutual health services will be included. Leave with no deal and it is very very unlikely. Health costs will covered individually.
