"Every one of you who went today.. Shame on you " I'm so sorry. I only wanted a Greggs, but a strange man handed me a billboard and I just got swept away in the aura. Honestly I had no idea that black people felt they should have the same rights as white folks. It was a real eye opener. And the steak bake was delicious.

"They have probably achieved the opposite of what they were protesting for. Had they done this on line, where everyone is spending their time, the message was getting across, we heard them loud and clear. But what they have done will provoke more racism. Cause and effect. Our county isn't America, the level of racism is low in comparison. It seems everything America has, we want too. " No its just passive aggressive and less likely to be noticed. I guess you're referring to black people. Arseholes? really?" No, I'm sure he's talking about the group of ex service men that lived through the war. You know, Captain Tom Moore's crew. I mean what was the point of fighting for this county, and the money he raised to fight for this generation. And the thanks he gets is for his generation to die alone without their loved ones close by. Dear lord, as if anyone should dispute the wrong doings of anyone of colour. It's just not on is it? I mean really?

It wouldn't matter to me what the protest was about - to act in the way they have done is wrong at this time and there was absolutely no need for the displays at and around Downing Street when it was really getting out of hand.

George Floyed wasn't an upstanding member of the community. People react out of fear just like we do towards Muslims. Because of the behaviour/ reputation of some of them we are wary of them all. That's human nature. We voted out of Europe to try and stop imagration and terrorist slipping through the net. To keep ourselves safe from harm. It's a fact that knife crime is high in black communitys So of coarse police are going to stop and check. That's not racist, that's precaution. People are only cautious through experience and facts. I saw something on TV about black youths going out to fight with other black youths just because they live in a different part of London. They are all carrying knifes and don't even know themselves why they are fighting, it's just the done thing. When dealing with that sort of mentality on a daily basis I can understand why the police treat them all as a potential threat till proven otherwise. https://rmx.news/article/article/minneapolis-police-union-chief-george-floyd-had-a-criminal-history

Either because now isn’t a very convenient time, or it’s important to you that we all remember about the white people too! There are endless resources being shared all over the place explaining how ill informed and unhelpful saying ‘white lives matter’ is, but you choose to say it anyway and you berate the protesters. So you might not consider yourself racist, but we only get to see what you put out there. " What most people seem to forget is that discrimination is rife everywhere not just against black people, it was wrong what happened to the black guy but rioting is not the way to do it,2 wrongs don't make a right.the real racism is blacks against whites, I've experienced it a few times, I class myself as colour blind technically, I treat people as they treat me and to me that is how it should be.

"If there was no pandemic I wonder what other excuses the racists would use to berate the people protesting? Without a pandemic the riots would be. I didn't realise I was a racist because I'm white and stand against the protests and riots. Every day's a school day. I'm glad the fab experts have cleared that for me. In America rioting was actually the only way to do it. Without it, the policeman wouldn’t have been arrested, nor would the other too. It seems to be the way it works there unfortunately. The real racism is definitely not blacks against whites at all. You only have to read a newspaper to see that. You’re definitely not ‘colourblind’ to have a view like that.

So WE should protest online and you'll listen? Have you ever been a victim of racism. Ask us we know. The only difference is that the cops here don't have guns to be shooting and killing black people. Racism is not low in this country but then again you're ont on the receiving end so you wouldn't know how it feels. The people that are already racist probably won't change, won't listen. If it was more frowned upon then it might make a difference. But to threaten everyone's lives will not have a positive effect. People that would stand against racism might not fight so hard to change the minds of the minority of racists. In the whole of the UK only a small proportion are racist. The rest of us don't deserve the backlash these protests can cause. To fight against the few, they are lashing out at the majority. That's the problem. If you're not racist then you shouldn't be worried about the protests coz they're not directed at you.The number of racist people doesn't have to be high, even a few can do a lot of damage. I'm most of the cops in the US will tell you they're not racist and yet black people get gunned down by white cops. When you say THEIR cause or THEM when referring to black people it shows that you don't understand our struggle and thats why you suggest we should protest online Protesting during a pandemic will effect me. Will effect alot of people. The lack of respect damaging the war memorial rubs me up the wrong way. You may be black and proud but I'm white and proud of what they solders done for us. To be able to live in one of the best countries in the world. Remember, they have disrespected many soldiers of every colour and religion by defacing the war memorial. Those people fought for the freedoms we have today, black, white and every other bloody colour of there rainbow. Anything those protesters have done which may have been good has now been ruined by their actions for me. Not all protesters are rioters. The two shouldn’t be confused. Then they should have been stopped by the genuine protesters and made to see the error of their ways. I have 0 respect or time for people who do things like this. Some of the rioters were maniacs and were armed. If I was protesting peacefully and they started I’m not sure I’d tackle them. Would you?" You could walk away and show no support. "So we are in a pandemic and morons demonstrate like sardines.. Old lives matter... Bring it to your homes and tubes and buses.. Shame on you.... Selfish ...." The rules are lost, lockdown's over. People are back to work, shops opening up next week, public transport packed every day, we're being advised to wear home made masks in public places (which will provide only a false sense of security, not protection from covid), government representatives abuse the rules to suit their own needs..

In the grand scheme of this pandemic they aren't showing social distancing etc which is your point I'm sure and you are right. But racism has killed more black people and for a lot longer than this pandemic and will likely continue to kill more after its gone. In this case its racism and any opportunity to rise up against it that is more important to black folk, imo.

Use a white victim to undermime 400 years of racial abuse is disgusting. If you would happily be treated like most black people then raise your hand! No? There is your answer.

"I supported the BLM movement. However, this has been going on for 400 years, to protest in the few months where a virus is rife, without keeping distance (mainly london, lots of others have) is just shocking. The black community is one of the worst affected by this virus, so if you are protesting for BLM then stay at home and help save those lives rather than spread a deadly virus! I am aware it was all triggered by george, hense the timing, but those killings sadly happen all the time, so now was NOT the right time. A few months ago yes, a few months time, yes. Not now." Very well said x

"Every one of you who went today.. Shame on you I'm so sorry. I only wanted a Greggs, but a strange man handed me a billboard and I just got swept away in the aura. Honestly I had no idea that black people felt they should have the same rights as white folks. It was a real eye opener. And the steak bake was delicious. " You know what had really pissed me of is that Greg's did a cheese and steak sausage roll and it was the greatest thing ever!!!!!! But they have stopped, now if ever there was something to riot about that is certainly it. #Steakandcheeserollmatters.

It is when it affects us too, it affects the whole country. You cannot do that and expect me not to say they are wrong. You have no idea on peoples, mine included, personal struggles at this time, and to see actions that will prolong this further, make it harder for me to put food on my table and me to visit my babies? "I wonder y we dident go rioting when lee rigby had hes head cut off or after the Manchester bomeings " That would be because the government is doing everything it can to combat terrorism. It is NOT doing everything it can to combat or even challenge racism or dare I say it sexism. A working life representing staff informs me that the latter 2 are still rife and I've seen the personal damage that can do. Lost count of the number of very senior boardroom meetings I've attended where the majority were middle aged white men.

You are a white person who posted in a forum when YOU thought Black people should protest to suit YOU. I commented on that, nothing more. It might not be convenient for you right now, but that’s not really the pertinent issue. People all over the country are breaking lockdown rules to suit themselves, it’s frustrating but the the protests are no worse than anything else.

" Sadly your viewpoint is part of the problem and not the solution. Dare I ask what you consider to be the solution?" Good question. I think the solution begins with acknowledging that we do have systemic inequalities based on skin colour. Ranging from law enforcement to educational opportunities. Discussing it with each other and removing this sense of being uncomfortable about the subject. And introducing education and policies to make actual change.

"Two rights dont make a wrong same as two wrongs dont make a right..The mass protesting could of observed better social distancing and should of vandalism in any form is wrong....but notice from all those condemning the actions of the protest few if any are of the minorities..its easy to condemn others actions from your ivory towers but there is a time in everyones live when enough becomes enough. How many white people have entered a prefominantly none white area and felt uncomfortable from people just watching you to possible comments/remarks about you as you pass...imagine that on a daily basis. Imagine being stopped and questioned more regular because of your appearance. Even down to body language and the actions of those in authority. I have witnessed police in the uk stop people and when its been none whites they are more prone to have a hand on their baton, tazer Cs spray etc and this is the UK not America, such small actions are very intimidating without any other actions. Adults pulling children closer to them when a person of colour walking will walk close by..why does this happen ? I've been a witness to many small things like those mentioned...I can't imagine being the person who its aimed at and the feelings they generate within you.. When dealing with that sort of mentality on a daily basis I can understand why the police treat them all as a potential threat till proven otherwise. https://rmx.news/article/article/minneapolis-police-union-chief-george-floyd-had-a-criminal-history" You're SPECIAL

YOU profiled ME then, disregarding anything I had to say because MY skin colour" The only reason we are trying to do it now is to stop more people being killed and attacked everyday. The longer we wait the worse it is. No one wants to protest now. It's very risky to say the least but that should show how important this is for these people. The virus will go away but racism won't until we stand against it. Everyone who is protesting has made the choice to break rules to fight for something. In regards to your post it is white people telling us not to protest, the rest of us know the issues are won't stand in the way but will decide if the risk of the virus is worth it. You felt profiled? Imagine dealing with that every day, it's not always direct hate but it's always there

I'm caring for 3 shielded family members, I've got them this far, they want to get back to moving about freely again, having been shut away for 10 weeks. Any mass gatherings aren't helping , whether it be Cheltenham, beaches or any protests. There are others here who have been forgotten...

I get being cross with people breaking lockdown. But one on one is as bad. So unless you’re locked indoors and haven’t flouted a rule at all you don’t get to judge. I got really cross early on in lockdown when I saw the pictures of the parks and beaches, then I realised that to stop me going crazy being locked up by myself i’d gone to see my friend, so I’m no better. People risked their lives in the protests because it was important enough to them do it. You might risk yours by visiting a friend or something. One isn’t any worse than the other.

I am aware it was all triggered by george, hense the timing, but those killings sadly happen all the time, so now was NOT the right time. A few months ago yes, a few months time, yes. Not now. I get that. But I don’t think it’s for us (white) to decide when Black people feel like the right time is to stand up for themselves. Surely that’s part of the problem? It is when it affects us too, it affects the whole country. They (and that does not mean just black, it means everyone attending protests and riots atm) are putting me, my friends, my family, my children at risk. You cannot do that and expect me not to say they are wrong. You have no idea on peoples, mine included, personal struggles at this time, and to see actions that will prolong this further, make it harder for me to put food on my table and me to visit my babies? Well I am just as god damn angry. Also, it is not white saying when black should protest, it is anyone who wants this lockdown to end saying it. YOU profiled ME then, disregarding anything I had to say because MY skin colour No I didn’t profile you at all. Breaking them for 1 on 1 probably once or twice, is hugely different to a mass gathering It isnt just inconvenient for me, it is currently against the law and inconvenient for the whole damned country, every colour included. " I have seen my children and that is all, and only been able to do so twice so..... Also your logic is wrong, 1 person in contact with 1 person spreads alot slower than 1 person in contacts with hundereds at once. We all know it is about slowing the virus.

"They are now talking about local lockdowns, I wonder where they will be... I hope they do." I don't suppose all will abide by it, so what is the point. As I said above, I'm caring for 3 shielded family members, who have been shut away for weeks. They're all saying what is the point, we're going to end up back at square one anyway..

White people make up 76.5% of the population and Black people 13.4% . So if you know math you'll understand that if 10% of each race are killed by the police ,the number of White people killed will be much greater coz there are more Whites than Blacks and Hispanics combined

They've tried everything to justify the killing of George Floyd first it was his history then it wa the underlying health conditions that contributed to his death and then it was coz he had tested positive for Covid-19 so that contributed to his death. Get your fact right dude. His past does not mean he deserved to be killed like an animal

Ahhhh the joy of white privilege. That's why people are protesting, to demonstrate exactly that there still is systemic and institutional racism. Sadly your viewpoint is part of the problem and not the solution. " The term white privilege does not really help at all.

" Not all of the soldiers were white.

We all agree racism should be dealt with, we all agree that ALL lives matter not just black, mixed race etc etc... These last few days have seen wanton acts of destruction, defacing, looting, mugging, and violence. I'm all for stamping out racism, I don't get racism as my friends are all from different walks of life. But watch what's been happening, look who's at the front of all thata been going on... What's going on does not add fuel to the cause its causing more rifts and hatred towards anything that could have been seen as constructive. No black lives don't matter, its ALL LIVES MATTER.

Not now. Breaking them for 1 on 1 probably once or twice, is hugely different to a mass gathering It isnt just inconvenient for me, it is currently against the law and inconvenient for the whole damned country, every colour included. No rule breaking is good, but claiming that one on one is just as bad is ridiculous. As an example, let’s say that somebody broke the rules about having a friend in their garden before it was allowed. And the garden is accessible without going through the house. This can hardly be compared with these superspreader events which will undoubtedly cause a huge spike in cases. Of course one is worse than the other. That’s still social distancing. That’s not what I meant, sorry I don’t think I was clear. I meant if you’ve gone to see a friend/family and got close to them etc. If you’re close enough pass it on to one it’s as bad as to many, to me. I dont get your logic? 1 person is infected....they see 1 other....that person sees another....yes, it is bad, it spreads it. Now. That 1 person goes to a busy event of any kind, that 1 person is in contact with 100 people, every single one of those 100 is in contact with another 100. Can you see where this is going? In 1 day you have infected 1 person, in comparison to thousands...." I understand all that. I just think that if you’re going to mix when you’ve been asked not to then it’s bad.

"Yes I watched the video on Floyd George. Yes it was wrong and hopefully the courts do the right thing. However the man had a bad rap sheet Inc aggravated armed burglary. No one would protest about the man specifically. I feel that this is an American problem for them to deal with. We have our problems here as someone said black gangs with knives fighting in London. Modern youth as a different take on life and what's right and wrong. I genuinely have no answers has to how to fix it, even growing up in West mids with black kids at my school.tensions were apparent then in the late 70s early 80s.as for the protesting, was a disregard to all lives that we have been trying to protect, NHS workers etc, so we could get back to some sort of normal. This may or not be a setback. Generally my view over the years is humans whatever colour or race seem to struggle to co habit close together. Yes, whilst it was wrong. I wonder how many knew floyds background? I didnt see the media report it during that time it happen there. Because it was years before so irrelevant to the situation. He had been living a honest life for many years without any trouble So on the day of the incident, he was handling fake 20$ bills .. irrelevant and honest .. hope the justice system works .. in this case and all others, irrelevant of skin colour ... what next, free rise west, cuz she’s been ever so good for the last years of her life .. justice matters " I didnt realise they executed people for passing bad checks.

" Unfortunately you're proving exactly why we need to protest. There is violence, looting and chaos but it is a minority. People focus on the negatives to take away from the issues. You say you don't understand racism so you should ask your friends about it. The issues don't lay with individuals, it's a underlying issue within society. I disagree with anyone defacing a war monument and there is no excuse that should be used to defend their actions in that account but saying it's all black people is so wrong. The violence and destruction is coming from people of all races. We have tried peaceful protests many times and nothing has changed so we just keep doing the same? You say it's a sign of the generation but what about stonewall riots and the suffragettes? They only succeeded due to proceeding to violence. If you're going to criticize you should look into the facts and try to understand.

We all agree racism should be dealt with, but it isn't is it, otherwise a culture wouldn't exist that effectively enables the public execution of citizens by law enforcement officers. All lives matter, but it appears some seem to matter less than others.

"will provoke more racism. " Yes, amongst people like me! I experienced racism growing up as a child and I will be forever grateful as it galvanised my sisters and I. We did pretty well for ourselves, on paper we're all millionaires, all university educated and life's pretty good. All our children are university educated and whilst I've remained in London my sisters live on Windsor, Leeds and Milan. By hard work and not accepting "our place" we achieved what we wanted. We all have white partners, my sister in Leeds and I our first husbands were black. I have three son in laws; on black, one Asian and one white. We are a happy, diverse family and family gatherings do look like a Benneton ad. I don't see white people as the enemy, I share my life with one. I can walk down the street without a care in the world. I'm not afraid of my white neighbours, and I can walk down any street in this country without being shot by the member of the public for no other reason than they didn't think I belonged there and they were scared. I honestly didn't realise how bad things were in America. Yes I'd heard of Rodney King but thought he must have done something. The "sparodic" reports I dismissed. The inequality of how white and blacks are treated I've shrugged away as "normal"...white man has the power right? For me, and for many like me George Floyds death, captured for all to see bought the stark truth to us: black people don't matter. All the other injustices allowed to go unchallenged just came to the fore. I remembered Dylan Roof, a white man who walked into a black church and shot dead 19 people, including a state senator. On the way to jail he said he was hungry and the arresting officers stopped off at Burger King to buy him a meal. George Floyd allegedly passed a $20 bill and didn't even make it to lock up. Died on the pavement, hands behind his back. That is the injustice. That is what is making black people angry. What happens in America soon finds its way to these shores. I don't want my grandchildren growing up in a world they are seen as nothing because of the colour of their skin.

"I am white and the victim of racist behaviour when the parents of the girl I wished to marry refused consent because of my skin colour and despite her wanting to marry me. It still hurts 40 years on, when I think about it, but I move on... " Without wishing to diminish your experience, I think we're talking here about a community of people to whom instances like this are commonplace and lifetime, socially as well as institutionally. Imagine if in your case, you regularly didn't get a job you felt you deserved, or you were treated differently by the police and society in general because of your skin colour and how you were stereotyped because of it.
