Just saw on another Social Media platform that if one has had COVID-19, one can donate their plasma/anti-bodies to help others......BUT NOT IF YOU ARE BISEXUAL AND/OR GAY. It's Pride Month as well so.....do we want a vaccine/cure to this awful virus or not? I mean....flabbergasted. Its 2020 for sobbing out loud

Not technically true gay or bisexual men are allowed to donate - so long as they have not had sex with a man within the last three months.

Well everyone knows you can catch gay so you wouldn't want loads of gay people donating plasma and accidentally making people gay, philip schofield syndrome would be nationwide and break up countless relationships which would be worse than the virus it self.

I can't give blood because my OH is bisexual and we have unprotected sex. Even though any sex he and I have with others is ALWAYS protected. Always.

You can if you don’t have Alex with him for three months. To that end also sex workers cannot give blood, people that have visited certain countries in the past few months, people that inject drugs (or people that sleep with them) or many other risk elements.

What's alex got to do with it he has done nothing wrong.

Who doesn't have sex with their partner for 3 months? Lol

And as I've said even if he and/or I have PROTECTED sex with another Bisexual male neither of us can give blood etc. Even WITH a condom....I have been told this by a nurse at a blood letting place.

To add to my previous post, I filled in the form and a nurse came over to me and took me outside of the church hall where the blood letting was being held and told me this and said 'So you may as well leave. Thanks though'

Yep this is indeed the case because it still increases the risk of transmitting blood borne disease. But this does not change the face that the initial statement that gay people or bi people cannot give blood is fundamentally incorrect. Just that as with all blood giving people that engage in activities which increase the risk of disease transmission are not allowed to give blood until certain criteria are met.

But it's 2020!

People with HIV are able to be 'non detectable' and have children with their partners.

So why can't Bisexual people and those who have sex with Bisexual people give blood. Or those with tattoos and piercings within 3 months of giving blood?

Because those making use of the blood to save lives need to take as much risk out of it as possible for the people they are supposed to be saving.

You can imagine the absolute shit storm that would come if tainted blood came from a drug user and made it past sample tests.

It makes total sense to remove as much risk as humanly possible when dealing with this sort of thing - even with all these steps there have been some cases of people being infected.

Yeah. We don't want tainted blood going to healthy people do we? It does make sense. Total sense. But in 2020 haven't things moved along enough? That's all.

I literally just said that with all the blocks in place.. and no in 2020 we are not in the situation where we can let these things slide - in fact more than ever we are in a place where medical professionals need to make sure that take every step possible to ensure safety. There is always going to be someone on the chain where the accountability stops.

And I bet that person will be an essential worker, not paid big bucks to do their job. It's very frustrating to me is all. And hurtful as well. As a Bisexual person in a relationship with a Bisexual person we are extremely cautious with our sexual health when with others.
