The lost 2 weeks

Cap d’Agde, France

The indecisiveness of the UK government over 2 weeks will have economic repercussions which could last years.

When the covid crisis hit, the major European economies were quicker to take action going into stricter lockdown 1-2 weeks before the UK.

Now here in France, people are back at work, restaurants/bars open and even the swinger clubs in Cap d'Agde are talking of opening in the next few weeks.

The infection/death tolls are lower and the economies are starting to work again.

Not so in the Uk, we've lost ground to Europe, too many people are still dying and those lost two weeks will turn into months, maybe years!

But...but..football..And horse racing..And pubs. And Other pointless stuff.

Yeah it was late. I knew people flying back into the country mid March, I thought for sure they would have tests and advise to isolate at the airport. Oh how wrong was I. They still haven't.

Proper shite show.

I hope the situation remains the same in France. Just don't let Brits in just yet!

I believe many people agree with you-UK lock down was too late but there will be others who defend it.

I know, a friend of mine had their child come back from Italy when it went crazy. When they landed back in the UK they were surprised they were allowed to just leave the airport! They rang 111 and were told it's up to them if they want to isolate! I still don't understand why the quarantine at airports was never enforced and isn't being!

Sure UK has among worst numbers in the world

That means that those people flying and with UK people flying out it can only improve your numbers

You think that's bad op?

Boris will again be 2 weeks too late for next lockdown on second wave and open up too early again too

He has shown himself to be completely and utterly useless and out of his depth

You mean UK death rate figures? Yeah, it'll just get carried over to other countries and trigger it again for them after they've been careful and responsible not to spread it.

Explain who in the UK with their experience of managing a global pandemic in England that would be better?

We was always behind most of Europe anyway since the virus took hold quicker in Germany France and Spain. We should have been in lock down at least 1 week earlier for sure.

I bet Theresa May is breathing another sigh of relief at dodging this bullet? They as well as the rest are a completely useless party. The sooner we come up with a better more altruistic approach the better

David Lloyd George. He nearly died from the Spanish flu so some experience of global pandemics. Obviously he's dead now but even a dead person would make manage this situation better than that idiot who currently resides in No 10....

So we are two weeks behind .. hope France don’t have a second outbreak, but if it does, remember, we are two weeks behind, so we can avert that ... and if it doesn’t and trends follow, then what twos weeks, we’ve had 12 fucking weeks of the pubs closed so another two weeks ain’t going break us .... stop fucking windging ... Jesus I’m sick of the Uk knockers.. if you think we are that bad and backward and others have got it so fucking right, then fuck off to the country u want .. instead of staying and fucking moaning ... as the ex pats how the Spanish government looked after them, whilst they spent all their pensions previously in Spain .. just fuck find somewhere you’ll be happy

It's pathetic seeing Tories repeatedly coming up with this "well who could have done better?" line.

There are leaders all across the world who have done better than us. Are we trying to say there is no one in the whole of the UK who could have done similarly?

All it would take to be better than Johnson is someone who cares about details and facts and wants to help the country, rather than someone who just wants to do three word slogans and 'funny' speeches and relies entirely on a dodgy advisor for everything else.

We were 2 weeks behind 2 months ago. Our 7 day average peak for deaths was mid april. Spains was start of april. Both peaks averaged about 860. Our 7 days average now is 215. Spain's 7 day average was around this on at this time last month. So call it a month. Also, our rate decline has started to stall. We'll probably be about 2 months before we report a number of 0 deaths days...

The UK has fucked up but that's not a reason to leave the country. I want my country back. Not from a threat that didn't exist but from the threat that this despicable right wing bunch of charlatans brings.

Unfortunately, some have been too blind to see what's been going on since 2016 and even now, they're still oblivious...

Exactly. There are Jacinda Ardern in every country. You just have to elect them.

Italy and Spain were ahead of us and were hit worst. They responded too late. They realised it and implored us not to make the same mistakes. Our government didn't listen. As to who would be better, just about anybody. Johnson isn't fit for the job. He's a lazy chancer who thought being PM would be a lucrative lark. God forbid he should have to do any work. He must be rueing his timing, winning a general election just as the worst peacetime disaster in living memory hit.

Anyone that had turned up at Cobra meetings, listened to advice and then done something instead of saying that they would rely on herd immunity and let thousands die ! That's who !

It's the herd immunity thing and expect to lose loved ones and elderly that got me and alot of others then they changed their tune. All too prepped and way too late. Obviously they held off lock down and thought they could pull the wool over people. Ooo but look the house of commons is infected to hell and probably spreading it from there. Karma.

Brexit! You know that referendum the gullible were told that our sovereignty and jobs were at threat by Turkey and the evil EU who wouldn't let us control our borders. Ironically, it was all the EU countries that closed their borders whilst we continued to allow thousands to enter the country unchecked.

This was threat that did't exist, not the virus!!
