National Holidays in administration

Sad day National Holidays have gone into administration

Another victim of our economic collapse. I know an employee who is absolutely devasted after driving for them for the last 10 years.

Lots of my friends and family used National Holidays to get away. For some it was extra weekend trips through the year on top of a main holiday abroad. For other people it was one of the few ways they could afford to have a holiday (especially if they don't drive).

My last one was a nightmare...but only because of the person I went with.

Tis sad news as it's the only way many had a holiday...some poor shielded folks will have bugger all to look forward to.

The first of many.

It's utter carnage in the hotel, catering, tourism & entertainment sectors - the only reason we haven't seen more bankruptcies yet is the furlough scheme.

Fundamentally, 70 - 80% of these businesses simply cannot function profitably with social distancing in place.

We may tell them they can reopen eventually but I very much doubt many will be in any sort of position to do so.

Sadly it does look like the first of many like you said.

Yep, no doubt about it. There's no practical way to operate any entertainment venue profitably under social distancing regulations - it just can't be done.

I would not be surprised if they don't "phoenix" and return as with many debt strained companies that do it to clear the decks.

Although sad for employees, it is logical to fold then set up a new "group" at a later date and continue trading as was.

It has been happening for years and guess more so now that debts are spiralling. Suppliers with have to accept a penny on the pound if they are lucky, then have to deal with the new company to recover some of the losses.

Seen it many times, go bust, write off debts, return to supplier who likely won't refuse to supply the new company as they need the money.

There is no logic keeping a dead company afloat bleeding finances.

We were saying about this to each other earlier. Companies will declare themselves bankrupt then start trading again under a new name. Morally wrong in our book.

Rolls Royce Aero Engines are owned by Rolls Royce Holdings, a FTSE 100 company with no connection to the car brand, which BMW bought to make their wankpanzers look classy.

That type of bankruptcy doesn’t end a business or force them to sell off assets. Big US companies use it to re organize their debt. They will emerge from it with less debt and carry on. A lot of big US companies have used it during this crisis

Working for Rolls Royce was one of those jobs that people always said was a ‘job for life’. I think this pandemic has shown that that old term simply doesn’t exist anymore. They are a huge employer in Derby and many people we know are currently furloughed awaiting news of who is going to be made redundant. Going to be a lot of people on very good money suddenly out of a job like in so many industries.

There are a few hotels in eastbourne that are going under due to this, I am sure there will be many others being affected by this.

National holidays own quite a lot of them.. I think they own the adelphi in liverpool and all the Britannia hotels dotted around the country.

It will hav a big impact.

A well as redundancy, another impact is short time working. I know a number of large employers who will be reducing hours and salaries by 20%. Admittedly these are well paid jobs; but that 20% is what you either save or have for the non-essential purchases/finance.
