"The lockdown was never about saving lives. It was about stopping the NHS being overwhelmed. That has been successful so now things will open up again and hopefully social distancing measures will stop it rising too much in the future. " And the second wave will be more devastating than the first

"The lockdown was never about saving lives. It was about stopping the NHS being overwhelmed. That has been successful so now things will open up again and hopefully social distancing measures will stop it rising too much in the future. " I'm sorry, but the whole point on not letting the NHS get overwhelmed was so we could save lives. Ultimately the government was caught with its pants down. Preoccupied with brexit and the government making moves to avoid accountability. 10 years of public health disinvestment. And I think on average the most unhealthy population in Europe. Then this happened. PPE demand outstripped supply and we had a minimal stockpile of medical equipment which we then couldn't sure up. The plan was pretty clear, it was a resource allocation task. Conserve resources, only the critical get access to them. The NHS needs to remain functional to deal with critical and non-critical COVID-19 cases. To open up in a disorderly manner will cause a second wave. Remember, there's no vaccine, and no proven therapeutic, it's down to your immune system and direct care assistance.

"The curves flattening we should end the lockdown What lockdown ? " Quite. Just a set of wishy-washy guidelines. Just wait for the whining from the personal freedom lobby should a proper lockdown ever be imposed.
