It seems strange that today we’ve had the lowest daily figure since March and that is championed but yesterday we had the highest Saturday total for a month, would it be too cynical to say the weekend figures may have been manipulated ? I suppose we best wait until tomorrow

Weekend figures are always low and Nothern Ireland haven’t included their figures

It's immaterial the virus will run it's course without a vaccine it has been in decline for over a month. If you remember our imprisonment was just to flatten the curve (slow the rate). It has nothing to do with preventing deaths.

The University of Washington Institute of Health Metrics predicts it will have petered out by August with around 43,479 deaths in the UK

That is approximately similar to the lower estimate of the annual UK death toll of air pollution. Which also affects a much younger demographic age group because of their developing lungs. Not a single vehicle in lockdown - are they somehow lesser deaths?

In total there are 17 active cases with eight in the community and nine in hospital.

the number of deaths remains 18 in the community and six in hospital.

we don't seem to have a particularly high rate

I was asking the question were Saturday and Sunday’s figures accurate individually. Saturday’s was very high for a recent weekend and today’s was very low. So will the government push today’s figure forward tomorrow as their reason for relaxing lockdown measures to level three when maybe combined between the two weekend days there really hasn’t been much change at all

I agree but since today’s figure alot of the news threads have been leading with “today’s total is the lowest since March and since lockdown began ” which worries me that people will become complacent when it’s not a true statistic considering this Saturdays total of 468 was the highest Saturday since mid April

The 7 day average seems to be the best indicator of where things are heading.

The lower the numbers get, the easier it is for a sequential anomaly to be noticeable that would not have appeared unusual when the daily numbers were higher.

The important details are the trends, which appear to be downwards. As others state, the weekend figures are different to those midweek, with data missing etc. Some time afterwards, weekend deaths get added.

The figures are only a guide as some deaths are up to a week late. Best figures are hospital admissions.
