"This is a genuine question, as I just don't understand. We maybe not were completely prepared for the first peek, but definitely had spent time in preparing, new hospitals built etc, surely we are now better prepared with different knowledge, experience and expectations if and when there is a second peek, why do people feel the second peak would be worse than the first? If we start approaching a second be surely we would them start going back into a firm lock down quickly, I don't understand why people feel the second peak could be worse than the first. Can someone please clarify as I feel I'm missing some information somewhere." I heard it explained by an American scientist lady on the radio the other week and she used the USA as her example. Basically in the beginning of the virus in January hardly anyone had the virus so daily infection rates will have been very slow to start with and the annual flu season was nearing it yearly cycle "season" end. That's when countries started to lock down as the infection spread through out the world. American states started to ease lockdown restrictions the other week while their reported new infections stood at 50,000 a day but scientific studies estimated it is most probably 200,000 new infections a day. So, the second wave most probably would be far worse if businesses and schools all started to open, travelling and distancing measures relaxed just as the next flu season is about to start while daily covid-19 new infections are already at 200,000 a day to start with. She said easing lockdown too quickly is like letting the flames die down just a little before throwing a can of fuel over it. The UK would be exactly the same but you'd just have to adjust the numbers accordingly to population size.

I don't normally like to quote media sources, but here you go. It states about population exposure to the virus has been lower than expected the first time around. However, estimated exposure of 5% of population seems too low to me. We'd have a better idea if testing had been continuous throughout.

" people dont respect flu either to be fair. If you read the reports about it they say that we should have already been doing many of the hygiene things we are now to combat flu... but yet we weren't/ dont as a whole
