If this is true, you can visit other peoples houses to see if you want to buy it. You still can't visit your family though

BBC carrying the same story. Estate agents can visit, you can view properties and move house:

House moves and viewings will be able to resume again in England from tomorrow.

In changes by the Government to lockdown regulations, potential buyers and renters will be able to visit showhomes and view houses which are on the market to let or buy.

Moving home will also be allowed again, as will visiting estate agents and letting agents.

Anyone who has already bought a new home will be able to visit it to prepare it for moving in.

So to sum up, you can have a valuer come to your house, then have people view your house, employ a cleaner and a nanny in your house but to see your family you have to do that one at a time in a park.

There is no way my cleaner is coming anywhere near my house for the foreseeable. I know her other clients and their idea of social distancing doesn’t meet with the guidelines. I won’t put myself and my family at risk.

I think most people here are making assumptions and jumping to unfounded conclusions .

Estate agents will follow social distancing rules in their offices.

Valuations will be conducted wearing appropriate ppe, vacant properties pose no problem regarding social distancing, occupied properties are off course tricker, but I’ve heard any occupants will be required to leave will the valuation takes place.

Viewings, same as above.

The property market is vital to the recovery of the economy, I understand why the desision has been taken to start things moving.

I'm happy for the housing market to get moving again. However, don't tell me I can't go into my parents back garden and talk to them through the kitchen door because "I might touch something" on the way round then say its ok for estate agents and prospective buyers to go into people's homes. It's entirely possible that they will touch something

Anyone who wants to buy property in this economy needs to join up here

They must have cock the size of babies arm to match the humongous balls they have... literally betting their house on a fast economic recovery.

This government can not even decide what businesses should and should not be open

Or how to implement a working social distancing policy .

I have a house that needs selling, it's empty and unoccupied. I will be contacting agents for valuations tomorrow morning.

An appointment will be made, I'll go around 10 minutes before unlock it, they go inside and take a look, I'll come back and lock it.

More than likely a developer or builder will by it and I'll do the same thing if anyone wants to view it sometime.

I can't see any problem with that, the economy has to start moving soon.

Here I'd suggest is their plan logic

91 percent of the most affected are over 60

Part of Many peoples "family" are over 60

It does appear that although deaths will occur under 60 the number will not break headlines potentially morally accepted (note I did not day acceptable)

Thus if the government can protect the oldest generations from the youngest they may save lives (may)

Most people who work (most) and are well are under 65 thus letting working age groups mingle might not (might) have hell on toast death figures during the next wave

I do think if that's their plan to be more honest and lock the over 60s down more severely ie no paper shopping

But who knows

I think house prices will slide slightly but not massively. The 2008 housing crash was due to subprime mortgages and self cert mortgages, that won’t happen again. This time lenders will relax borrowing criteria, but probably not LTV amounts. I don’t think negative equity will be an issue.

08 was about subprime debt

This time its about a multitude of debt markets that makes 08 look like a storm in a tea cup.

If president mango man handn't put a gun to the federal reserves head and order them to turn the money printer on and create 2.5 trillion dollars

The liquidity to debt markets across the world would have dried up... Along with all that mortgage lending you talked about.

Things got so bad limits where put on how much corporation could withdraw from banks. To avoid a run on the banks... Just like 08.

Prior to the virus, just like stock markets.. The housing markets had been artificially gassed up for at least the last two years.

I don't wish financial misfortune on anyone but in this game of financial chicken I wouldn't want cross the road first.

If only walking into a strangers house and catching a virus while I was there to spend £100ks.

In modern digital and age a virtual 360 tour could be done at least for the initial viewing

Agreed. Housing is major business/pension investment across the country, and a collapse would be catastrophic to the economy, albeit some winners and losers. Its the service industry collapse is the more likely real fear. Fortunately a big chunk of the money against that (£17B a month on furlough alone) has remained in the economy not disappeared offshore like last time. Businesses that remained open have done well, so hopefully that will continue

They're following the scientists information to create policy, they keep insisting. Having a stream of viewers in someone's home is a good way to spread things around. If agents arrange the viewings, you might even find people who you know are amongst them - if this happens, you must all step into the garden, continuing to enforce the range of physical distancing rules that must be applied.

Likewise, you can interview others, some of whom may be related or known to you, or employ them, for jobs or contracts that will get the country back to work. Cleaners, decorators, electricians, plasterers, other handymen etc, can be interviewed for your jobs and quotes. If you know each other, your family members etc, keep the discussion to business only It's important to be alert! If in England.

So many ways that the government is going to be getting people circulating again, whilst the rest of us have been strictly sticking to distancing since March.

It all seems so mixed up and incoherent, when we have huge infection levels that we're still waiting to quantify properly. Loopholes and confusion will prevail. And probably rises in illness

I couldn't agree more.

My parent's cleaner can legitimately go into their house after visiting her other clients, touch their kitchen, bathroom and things in the rest of their house but I'm only allowed to see one of them at a time in a park despite being a much lower risk to them.

That makes me cross.

Surely people need to move homes and having shelter is pretty important. Also economy wise getting the finance system working is important and the value of peoples homes will be important to home owners. Not seeing family is about lowering the interactions. You can view and more like to stick to social distancing in house viewings. But not if you see family specially if you have kids. I dont think you should compare the two, they have been chosen for reasons. People need to use common sense here. While we are allowed to do things, we have to take our own responsibility for what we choose to do.

No it isn't what they are doing. It's trying to make a balanced call to get people able to earn a living again whilst still trying to protect people. The economy has to start again at some point. Or perhaps we should all stay indoors forever till we starve. The government is not there to be your babysitter. If you don't feel safe doing something, then don't. They are publishing what guidance they can, they are not going to provide an individual plan for the entire population.

"They can't even clarify whether or not we should wear masks and gloves. "

Again, this is entirely dependent on your circumstances. If you are coming into contact with people at an unavoidably close distance (such as if you have to potentially take public transportation), or having to touch multiple items that others have touched (such as if you work in manufacturing) then a mask and gloves may help and from my opinion, is probably a good idea. If you are going for a walk in the countryside and coming into contact with no one, then they are pointless.

"As a previous poster said, why then can't a loved one come in my house and wear mask and gloves and not touch things ?"

Because it serves no economic purpose and is avoidable. You can see them outside. Viral concentrations can be far far higher inside and are diluted swiftly when outside. No it isn't fair, but, without wanting to seem harsh, the virus absolutely doesn't care if it's fair, or whether it upsets people. There is no perfect solution, you cannot open up everything to everyone. Otherwise you will undo everything that has been achieved in the last 7 weeks and we will have another massive spike in infection. It's vitally important to do this in small steps so we can see how the infection rate reacts within the population.

"Anyone who wants to buy property in this economy needs to join up here

They must have cock the size of babies arm to match the humongous balls they have... literally betting their house on a fast economic recovery.

This government can not even decide what businesses should and should not be open

Or how to implement a working social distancing policy . "

.They are maybe thinking that house prices will be a lot lower currently, so a good time to buy. The house value will increase again in time.

Not all house viewings and house moves have stopped and it’s not just about sales it’s also rentals they deal with and people need somewhere to live at then end of the day. Although the estate agent shops have been closed they have worked from home doing virtual tours, credit checks etc. and if a house is empty estate agents have been doing viewings 30 mins apart and they go in and wipe surfaces and door handles in between each viewer. Also personally seen people move from their own home into a new one all be it empty the last couple of weeks.

"I think most people here are making assumptions and jumping to unfounded conclusions .

Why is the property market vital to the recovery of the economy? Who would suffer if we all stayed in the houses we currently live in for another 6 months?

I wonder if the government is concerned that if they allow people to see family that people won’t be able to stop themselves from too much physical contact ? You would think common sense would prevail in a lot of situations currently, however from my experience common sense is something far too many people lack.

Well the virus is nobody's fault. Not mine, not the govt but I think we should try and avoid being manipulated into a position where we have no sympathy for people who catch it or people who want to do things (like see loved ones) that have no perceived economic value. What kind of people would that make us?

Why are people so keen to pull apart the rules? They had to put some rules in place or people would just be back together in clumps and we would be right back at square one with the virus going wild.

If they say only meet 1 friend outdoors, or a plumber, or a cleaner etc, that is to keep transmission risk low.

As soon as they say families can meet up the transmission risk sky rockets because of increased close contact.

Anyone who has been apart from family for 8 weeks and who claims they will stay 2m apart is surely lying to themselves.

I know, I was just asking the man who was telling me I can meet a plumber but not my family in the same situation but he has not answered me yet

Tbh.,i personally wouldn't have a plumber in my home unless it was an emergency.

Now waiting for"define emergency "

Are you a politician by any chance?

How about this question.....What if I put a mask on and stay two metres away from my family inside the house , am I safe then?"

Not as safe as if you met just one member outside. Minimise the risk for you and your family.

I can't see why this would be a problem. I'm looking after my brother and dad but I'm always in a separate room from them. It's heart breaking isn't it. My daughter in law has lost her Nana this morning and she was crying out for a cuddle and I can't give her one...

"Why are people so keen to pull apart the rules?

As soon as they say families can meet up the transmission risk sky rockets because of increased close contact.

What about all the people on the packed buses this morning in London ?

The rules are not being pulled apart, they are being questioned as they are not consistant

Unfortunately some people have to put themselves at risk to work. Consider, how unhappy they are on a packed commuter train. Some are key worker's who we all owe a debt of gratitude too. My advice is if it's not totally essential, stay home for everyone's sake "

I really do feel for them, I watched the tube yesterday with mostly men looking like construction workers going to work, thinking what a quandry they are in, stay at home and possibly don't have any money coming in or go to work on a packed tube to put food on the table and potentially catch it and pass it onto my family, what a nightmare for them.

I think you keep assuming I am talking about me a lot on these posts, using a tube for work or having a plumber in doesn't apply to us

I didn't say it was safe for the plumber, nothing is 100% safe. It's all about lowering risk. I'm truly desperate to see my son, but I won't as it raises his risk. I'd prefer to cry on my own

I agree, they changed the rules many times even just on Monday.

How would you specify the rules for easing lockdown at this point?

"Why are people so keen to pull apart the rules? They had to put some rules in place or people would just be back together in clumps and we would be right back at square one with the virus going wild.

If they say only meet 1 friend outdoors, or a plumber, or a cleaner etc, that is to keep transmission risk low.

As soon as they say families can meet up the transmission risk sky rockets because of increased close contact.

Anyone who has been apart from family for 8 weeks and who claims they will stay 2m apart is surely lying to themselves.

I'd rather see my parents and not touch them than never see them again. That's a distinct possibility as they're in their 90s. "

The virus isn't going away any time soon. Hope for a vaccine but that could be 6 months or never.

If I was in your situation I'd go visit their garden.

God knows, and I am genuinely glad I don't have that job

I just think they should not have one rule for one and one for another. If I can have a cleaner in my house if I keep my distance, then I don't see the difference to have a family member in the house/ garden and do the same thing.

Don't get me wrong, I would really want to hug my family, but for most of us we would not because of this.

Atm, people's needs are all different, no government can please everybody. There's no easy way out, more people will die. In the end, it's down to the individual to protect their families. Rules can and will be broken by some. Ultimately, risk assess everything you do, to help you stay safe

"Really can't see a problem with viewings. How hard is it to ask viewers/valuers to wear a mask and gloves and to not touch things in other people's homes. What do people think "stay alert" means. Deffinate lack of common sense being shown at the moment.

So if the occupier must leave the premises how is the valuer going to get in without touching something?

Err, leave a key with the agent, like normal

Lots of houses you need to touch the door to open and close it

Errrr That's why I said gloves

I was responding to the part of your post that said "not to touch things"

If you are still worried, you could clean surfaces, to be on the safe side.

I presume, with these questions, you're just pulling my leg, right?

What I'm doing is trying to understand the apparent conflicting information we're being given.

That's why I'm trying to help, but I genuinely feel, after all the information over the last couple of months, people should know how to keep safe. Have you read the 50 page document released yesterday? If you're unsure about anything, this would be a good place to start.

I'm aware of the document and the information and advice given by the goverenment.

Aware, but haven't read? "

Yes, aware but haven't read. I'm not arguing against the advice I'm questioning the conflicting advice

When you think about it it's not as illogical as you think. When you go and visit your grandchildren or friends or whatever you'd do and sit down with them, have a cuppa, use their loo etc etc. When you are doing a view you'll be wearing a mask and gloves, all the doors will be open, you wont have much convo with the vendors, so unless that's the sort of visit you want to have with your kids and grandchildren then I guess you'd better knock yourself out. I certainly don't want to put my grandchild at risk or wear a mask when meeting her.

Whether you like it or not we have got to get the housing market moving again.

p.s. off for a game of tennis soon and provided it's singles, I change end by going round other side of net and use our own balls we'll be fine. Hurrah..........

I've been quite patient so far. I've defended decisions made and sympathised with the difficult job ministers have. I've stayed at home, only gone out when necessary and kept my distance from people.

I thought he explained the difference between people looking round a house with the vendor not there/ stood in the garden, and visiting family where people would be in contact more.

I'm annoyed about people in supermarkets today. No social distancing, reaching over me. Just have a family meet in Asda. Grab 1 trolley each and block an aisle.

the way i see this is a plumber comes in your hose to do some work its doubtful you are going to be satin the same room as him while he does it and if you have any sense you would be wiping that room down after he left before anyone used it again

people come to view your house they are in and out in 5 minutes, generally the place would be spotless for them coming over even before a virus and again despite them probably not touching much iwould be wiping down handles and doors and surfaces after they leave

when you visit your family the point surely is for their company, so you will be sat in the same room as them, for how long ... the linger the higher the risk, how many families will troup off together with all the grandkids in grannies living room jumping over the sofas , sitting on her knee multiple people crammed into one room

at the wnd of the day not visiting your family isnt actually law that i am aware or its guidance and advice but after reading about the family yesterday where the little girls birthday resulted in 3/4 grandparents dying i think i would stick with skype or chatting through a window for now

"The minister on the daily update mentioned this, he said he knows people will be saying why can't I see family if I can have strange people in my house...but he didn't answer why and just went into the guidelines instead

I have no issue with more than one member of a family going shopping together. However them doing what you’ve mentioned above is completely unacceptable. They should stay together with one trolley and move together. Blocking a complete aisle is extremely selfish and unsafe. I had a similar issue with two families, I notified a member of staff. A manager asked them to adhere to the distancing rules and be mindful of other shoppers or only one of them will be allowed to continue to shop. On another occasion it was the staff that were the issue. I had a word with a manager who was part of the problem I’d observed. It isn’t rocket science but ppl just can’t seem to manage social distancing

Yeah the staff are usually a bit oblivious. I think it's because they work together and get out of the habit of social distancing. They get into a sort of safe feeling where they are close to colleagues but then forget about getting close to customers.

There's now a couple of supermarkets I won't be going back to until the covid situation improves.

Not what I saw. He explained the guidelines as to how they were to view a house. Unless I missed half of what he was saying by falling asleep

"I've just reread all my posts and never said it's ok to get a plumber in. I've repeatedly said I wouldn't have a plumber in. Why is this so hard to understand for you? Do you want a plumber? I know a couple. Have to be a cash job though as they're currently furloughed

Cheers pal, cash job fine, they don't need masks or gloves either. Is it ok to hug them for an extra fiver

If you hug them the price goes down... "

You haven't seen my hugs, people deserve to be paid for them

Only the ones who don't give a toss about their family. Most sensible people would do as advised, keep a distance etc

If this is true, you can visit other peoples houses to see if you want to buy it. You still can't visit your family though

"

It's probably so all the rich buddies of Boris can start buying up house's on the cheap from people who can't afford to pay mortgage.

The old boy network still going strong

I have visited my family. We have been twice with my 3 year old son. We didn't go on the house, sat in the garden about 6 metres apart. My son stayed away from nanny and grandad and just played in the garden.

My mum has cancer, who knows, by the time there is a vaccine, she might not even be here. So she has to see her grandson, even if she can't cuddle him or go near him. Some of us do give a toss and take precautions.

Bedworth

Hubby’s friend and colleague will be very happy if he can finally get the contact exchanged on his new flat and move in.

He sold a large family home, in an area where investors are buying them up to turn into student hmo’s. As he had paid off his mortgage some years ago, he has a nice tidy sum sat in the bank. The buyer of his house wanted to complete fast and the property he made an offer for fell through so he sold up and moved into a room in a shared house temporarily. He then found a flat in a purpose built, over 55’s block which was perfect for his needs and had an offer accepted. But then, the covid shit storm hit. He’s been languishing for weeks and weeks in the attic room of a shared house, with a dirty kitchen that is barely safe for food preparation in normal times, let alone now. He’s been surviving on sandwiches from the supermarket and takeaways.

The housing market finally getting moving again will make a world of difference to his life right now
