The Employee rights act of 1996, Section 44 states that

'An employee has the right not to be subjected to any detriment by any act, or any deliberate failure to act, by his employer done on the ground that—

in circumstances of danger which the employee reasonably believed to be serious and imminent, he took (or proposed to take) appropriate steps to protect himself or other persons from the danger.'

i not heard anything from my firm for weeks now.dont think i will be going back anytime soon if at all.until airports open like they were before this none of our stores will be open so no one to send any stock to.i really cant see ya being able to browse round the shops in a airport anytime soon it gona be turn up check in and line up ready to get on your flight

I'm usually office based, and have been lucky enough to be able to WFH the last 8 weeks. There are gradual discussions starting about the practicalities of reopening an office. My main fear is that the manager's suddenly expect everyone to be back in doing a 40 hour week at a desk like nothing has happened. I also think they will get frustrated one day about extending flexibility to those shielding, or without childcare. Just going to have to wait and see....

Just to broaden on the above:

This applies to employees only, self employed/sub contractors/agency/temps are not covered.

Self employed/subcontractors should make an official written complaint to the company & will then be protected under the whistle blowers act.

If you refuse to go into to work on these grounds, it will be unpaid. The procedure if dismissed or given detrimental treatment as a result of the refusal will need to go through a tribunal & can be claimed back to first day of employment.

Talking to 7 friends all at different employers and all are saying that their firms have called or emailed in the last two days and have set out very clear plans to make adjusted work social distancing spaces.

I think it's fair to say that not all employers are looking to rough-shod their employees.

Apparently we all work outside

I’ve been on sites for 30 years and 80 percent of my work is inside

Fucked off that contractors are treated like scum

Big up to all nhs and care home workers,bus drivers etc

They have had it worst.

I don't think you can be forced to back to work. If you have concerns that your place of work hasn't put procedures in place or you live with someone vunerable then don't go! My firm has put lots of things in place so we have no reason bot to go in. If we don't we don't get paid, simple as that!

People have been working this whole time whilst you sit on your arse still getting paid 80% of your salary. These same people are now going to have their wages frozen and pay increased income tax to for the privilege.

I think you should maybe have read the whole thread before jumping in and making the statement you did. You would be quite happy for people to return to work as normal which could possibly lead to another peak in the spread of the disease and more deaths? As for having pay frozen and increased income tax can you tell me where this has been officially stated or is it just speculative like so much posted on this forum?

furloghed at the mo so getting 80% unfortunatley between dec and end of jan my firm had laid out over a million refitting the warehouse and another half a million opening two more stores wich teaded for just over a month so with lockdown no sales meens no income so there in a pretty shit state at mo and gina stay like that till the airlines get back to normal is the firm gona survive? mabey mabey not if it does survive there is defo gona have to be redundancies

What a ridiculous post.

Yes, we should all just doff our caps to the boss and be thankful for having a job to go back to.

People are right to be concerned about going back to unsafe working environments on overcrowded public transport, because that will inevitably lead to further outbreaks and a rise in the number of deaths. It has nothing to do with being selfish.

Do you think another round of sick people going into hospital will make it any easier for those key workers you're talking about?

I'm not suggesting that all employers are bad, but we all know that there are a number who simply don't care about the welfare of their employees.

As for the pay freezes you suggest? Well at the moment that's just hearsay, and if there is one thing this pandemic has shown is that there is money in the system when it's needed. With interest rates at historic lows there is no impediment to government borrowing, so if they implement another round of pay freezes and austerity when it's an unnecessary policy, then they would hopefully answer for that at the next general election.
