Sport in lockdown

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

Several sports bodies made representations to the Parliamentary Media and Culture Committee this week. Decisions are pending.

Cricket said they had suffered a big hit. Golf authorities told the committee that they were in a hole. Any decision on football has been kicked into touch. The committee were criticised for not tackling the concerns of the RFU.

Anglers feel that as it is a solo passtime they should be let off the hook while 400m runners complained about being given the run-around.

What do you think should happen...or any other similar comments to add??

I have seen fisherman everyday on my drive home from work since lockdown began. I don’t see an issue with it myself.

"i can't see a problem with individual sports such as golf or tennis as such.... the bigger issues are going to be team sports!"

Golf perhaps alright playing in pairs as a maximum?

Tennis, Squash, Cricket etc sharing a ball? Risk seems relatively small.

I’ve heard some ladies on here are reluctant to share small balls!

The bigger issue is spectators/fans...the "no mass gatherings" rule will be around for a long time...no fans, no revenue apart from TV rights. The big football teams will be ok, with Sky and BT etc on their side...lower teams not so lucky, although the upper tiers are still whining, even tho they've been swimming in cash for ages. I detect a touch of greed...

I've coincidentally discovered AEW - All Elite Wrestling - during lockdown. I started watching it three or four weeks ago. It's still being filmed weekly but this week's was the first live one in that time. No audience aside from a few other wrestlers and a couple of wrestlers have been quarantined to being high risk.

The national discus association are still in a spin about recent government rulings.

However, in positive news the triple jumpers believe they are just a hop, skip and jump from a working solution.

More worryingly half the people posting have failed to actually read this thread

Motor sports administrators are saying it's all just going around in circles.

Wrestling federations are trying to grapple with the problem.

Fencing bosses are parrying questions.

Steeplechasers are jumping all the obstacles put in their way.

Archery enthusiasts are targeting a return to competition.

If the tv companies get really desperate for live sport I’m sure Alan Partridge would be happy to see his idea for a new tv show ‘Monkey tennis’ finally be commissioned.
