Cancer is a very broad term, there are some treatments that are specific to certain cancers.

I seriously doubt that they will find a cure and for a vaccine to work means there has to be a form of immunity to it, which at the moment there doesn't seem to be according to some scientists

I'm guessing that if the infection levels continue that the economic pressures and financial opportunities will help push to get a vaccine. It's a major problem and this has so far driven large numbers of teams to search for a vaccine.

The flu vaccine is very successful, reducing large volumes of infections to smaller levels. Its weakness is that flu has multiple types and versions that change their occurrence frequency. They mutate too.

HIV vaccine discovery is made harder as the virus murates a fair bit. Infection levels are suppressed by meds, reducing the pressure to get a vaccine too.

The lack of treatments for covid-19 and the huge financial impacts on the economy, will continue to drive competition to find a vaccine. No guarantee but higher likelihood. As there are already vaccine trials, I'm optimistic that we'll get one

Well AIDS is the name given to the host of conditions HIV causes and the common cold is due to 100s of viruses. You can lead a fairly normal life with HIV and there have been cases of ridding the body of HIV.

As for the question, a vaccine isn't a cure per se, it's a preventative measure, and the medical community are learning so much that it won't just be medicinal help but also how to better use ventilation etc. Just remember nothing is 100% effective so if anything comes from this pandemic it'll be an increase in the number of anti-virals we have at our disposal.

No need for a "cure" it goes away by itself, you either live or die

An anti viral treatment which works on the lung infection is the most we can hope for given that a vaccine may be a long way off and seems like it will be rejected by a large number of the tin foil hat brigade anyway.

Cured of HIV actually, and that was with chemotherapy to destroy the immune system due to Hodgkins Lymphoma …. they were then given a bone marrow transplant with stem cells carrying the CCR5 mutation which blocks HIV..... a wonderful achievement, but too dangerous and not at all scalable. But a step in the right direction after 40 years of the HIV pandemic..... I hope progress is a lot quicker with the Covid pandemic!!

Can’t cure but there are medications out there to prevent from getting positive, and for positive to not spread it and have a normal life as they freeze the virus to levels that are undetectable in the blood!

Indeed I'm guessing "time" will be its cure

I'm guessing there will be no protect all vaccine

I'm guessing that wont even be an intention

I'm guessing first we will be brutally frightened of it

Then learn protect ourselves a little

Then to think we are protecting ourselves from it

Then the media will become bored and world death reports side lined

Then we will slowly forget to practice the measures we think protect us

And finally as the disease diffuses it will be a steady but not newsworthy contribution towards the vast annual world death toll which will be slightly less than its birth rate until X population is reached and a serious cull will occur

So all in all it will absolutely NOT be "safe" to meet ever again nor will it ever be safe for anyone to visit their vulnerable older friends, parents,grandparents

IF anyone Goes into real world then visit a "loved one" they are dicing with death

The queuing is to control numbers within the store. As long as you're not clambering and breathing over each other, I'd think you're safe. People queuing outside though will be coughing/chatting etc so the distancing helps.

However, why tha feck do you need 2-3 people from a household to go shopping?!?!stay tha feck in the car.

Can't comment on where you shop but all the shops I have used have signs up everywhere saying practice social distancing, arrows on the floor to create a one way system and marking on the floor at the tills to keep people apart. Sadly not all adhe to it. The social distancing needs to be practised everywhere not just waiting to get in a shop. The shops have these measures in place its up to people to use them and take responsibility for their actions

Tamiflu was made to fight bridflu and by the time it was went into manufacture was no longer needed... millions of pounds of un tested drug sat on a shelf losing value...funny how swine flu popped up just at he end of tamiflus use by date ... tamiflu was dished to masses for swine flu and it killed people just another nugget for you to consume. Our Morrisons don't. They queue outside then inside it's a free for all. In fact sometimes there's no queue, they just let everyone in no matter how many are inside.

No arrows, narrow aisles with people walking wherever they like. They even have open adjacent tills so the customers are back to back. The staff walk next to you, no distancing. The place is a joke.

Answer to the question is because no one knows what theyre doing and no one really cares if they did they would nt be going shopping at he usual times. I shop late at night so I dont have to que but for so many they dont want to make changes

Tomorrow borrus will announce that halfthe counrty wil be able to go out again the the rest have to stay on lockdown

Our Morrisons don't. They queue outside then inside it's a free for all. In fact sometimes there's no queue, they just let everyone in no matter how many are inside.

No arrows, narrow aisles with people walking wherever they like. They even have open adjacent tills so the customers are back to back. The staff walk next to you, no distancing. The place is a joke. "

That does indeed sound like a joke of a shop. Maybe use an alternative shop if available. If they loose business over it they might change but don't hold your breath

I guess fab introduced the virus forum because it was all people were chatting about in the other forums before this one came along.

I think it's a good idea because whether this is a place to get information or not, people are going to talk about it because it is affecting all of our lives.

Chatting with people in these forums is what helps me get through lockdown.

I'd suggest the above is a very small number vs the total virus population

Second let's be blunt

This virus IS "SARS"

You know the nasty fucker from a decade back the one that they have been trying to develop but not succeed

SARS2 will be forgotten and ignored before a preventing agent is found

I fear at best a placebo to pretend and calm the geni

I fear at worst a gamble

It will be interesting to see how many vocal hardliners soften their view in 3 5 years when the risk is the same but they need to live the life they have preserved

But this is SARS it will kill it wont be going anywhere

Wise words though I would be careful with the information given and the links posted. They seem to come from many sources and they only quote the ones that agree with their position. Any that don't they dismiss.

An example is one of the treads a guy said channel 4 had been banned from the daily briefing. When asked about it he said its true he saw it on the European. Luckily others said well just seen it and channel 4 were present and asking questions. He did finally admit he got it wrong but just goes to show people are so quick to make claims just because they see it on an dilettante supports there stance

its not about finding a cure its about making the most profit and cash

Well they have to turn a profit or they will not exist. It takes 10's of billions pounds/dollars for R&D

Gilead Science have got their anti iral remdesivir approved for use. They are giving millions of vials treatment away!!
