Oh and those that think we need to keep social distancing and hand sanitizing / washing encouragement in place as the only way the virus spreads is by contact with an infected person. But still need to go to work before the country and world goes bankrupt.

mostly for me , it's going to be the problem of who is funding the NHS when half the tax payers are going to be unemployed and claiming benefits. Another 2/3 months like this and this is a real problem. It's going to come down to the compassion/economy argument eventually. We cannot be locked down for the next 6months/2 years or however long. The virus is out . No vaccine for the foreseeable future . It's a real dilemma .

It will always be a risk as many things in life are. Locking down just delays the inevitable with the added benefit of destroying the economy

What you describe is Binary Thinking, something that is either black or white , polar opposites, the extremes at each end.

For an overwhelming majority its something in between and something that can move one way or the other and is rarely static.

24hrs news channels and news websites aren't in the business of providing information anymore.

They are entertainment and nothing sells like an extreme view. Hence all the extreme views no matter the topic or side of the fence.

Except we don’t! When times are normal we pay just enough tax to fund services, defence, infrastructure, social services the NHS and servicing the national debt... we don’t pay enough to have 1/4 of the workforce furlowed for an extended time!

People keep voting in favour of these tax dodging companies time and time again.

There's no way the government will allow any change in policy that will impact the ultra wealthy.

It's a 2 dimensional concept, when we typically base our beliefs, thinking and behaviour on much more complex inner perceptions. 3D doesn't do our highly complex minds justice.

We're all a little bit blind about this, as the government hasn't done much testing, with a small amount over recent days c. 100,000/day. Thus none of us can perceive the level of risk, were we to engage with others. Is 0.1% of the population currently infectious or 11%, or..? In any event, we are very bad at risk perception, even when we have data. The information that we know is via the government or a media with an agenda - both have agendas of course.

I'm largely wanting the population's health to be protected and don't welcome a fast reversal of the current measures, whilst those in government don't have infection level and other data. If they have good data and credible plans for suppression of growths in infection levels, I'm interested in listening.

People that know they are probably not at risk and would end up with “bad flu” personally but also appreciate its not just about them and that they have to protect others more vulnerable... another middle ground

It's a flu, its not just contact with people the disease is airborne. It's also contact with things other people have touched. The furthest we've known someone to be infected is 4 meters.

So anyone in the camp that thinks hand washing and social distance is the only way it spreads is misinformed about what's basically the only news story of the last 2 months.
