I'm pretty sure the government gets the final say on when and whether places get to open again.

I think Mr Martin is just being bullish and trying to force the issue (Or at least get parliament to discuss it) seeing as there seems to be little idea or indication at present coming from those in charge.

My guess is that restaurants and cafes will be allowed to open up before pubs will (easier to maintain social distancing) so Wetherspoons will probably apply to open it's food services in line with this?

If Tim Martin passed in his sleep it would be nothing more than a wet fart on the damp pages of history.

Telling his entire work force to get jobs at tescos after letting them go after managing to venues I'll say his seat is ready and waiting in hell next to his old mate Jimmy savile

Agreed with you, however if Wetherspoons food services are open, two people could grab a table and just order a couple of pints. Instantly turning it into pub.

It'll also be interesting to see if people are asked to wear face masks between courses

Yes, there may well be a policy introduced that drinks could only be served with food... although this could result in a new "nibbles" menu being introduced. Hence potentially creating many parts of the countries first ever Izakaya?

Why even bother with 10 people max limit I would not risk staff handling the plates of people who may no may not have Covid-19

Staff

_____

4 kitchen staff

1-3 floor staff.

Services

Heating and gas

Water bills ect

Food stock drink stock

You will know better than me then.

My village local has its hardend locals but there is never any more than 15 people in (from what I've seen).

It could easily support the distancing rules.

Most venues will probably go food only but even then I can't see how that's a viable solution if wearing face masks is inforced

Nd I imagine venues would get a slap on the wrist and a fine if such measures are ignored.

I would think it's hard to sell anywhere it's not really a seller's market, I don't even know if you can view places to buy, I think places might end up getting repossessed and left empty, possibly squatters in, I don't really know what else can happen, it's quite worrying.

I'd be disappointed to see more pubs have to finish in business, except Wetherspoons, due to its repugnant owner

I think it's probably too soon though. Our physical distancing got to lower infection rates but pubs could reverse that - just for minimum wage staff to be lambs for the slaughter. If they could manage ultra low customer volumes, using beer gardens etc but it's probably not feasible for them and could get the virus passed around.

Pub drimkers are mixed but this epidemic is disproportionately killing the poorer people here, perhaps more highly representive of pub users.

We probably have to be very patient and stay at home

Pubs bars restaurants clubs cinema theatres and other large gatherings will not take place again For at least 18-24 months if you think otherwise you have not been listening to the news and science . The government will not want to risk a second wave by opening any hospitality or leisure venue.

I'm living in hope that pubs and restaurants open soon, and with the noises the government is making, they will.

It's all about numbers, but if my works canteen can manage 100 staff, then I'm damn sure my local boozer and indian restaurant can too.

Pre-booked tables like in the restaurant trade, passing trade only if there is availability. Take customer temperature on way in with a gun (already in use in many U.K. Workplaces as a control). Space the tables out, limit the numbers accordingly, order drinks in one place, collect in another. It's not rocket science is it?

Hospitality makes up a large part of the UK economy, so th government will open it back up as soon as they can (it's not just the customer, it's the whole supply chain, glass bottles, malted barley, sugar, breweries, logistics, distributors before we even get to the pub). It's a huge amount of jobs that are at risk.

The 2m distancing has dropped to 1m in some parts of Europe - which is still quite a distance in general. The most important thing people can do is isolate themselves if they are ill - which we've done really well so far.

Ever the optimist, but we can do this.

Pint please, no, make it 2

Cinemas I would have thought would be easy to enforce distancing. 1 row open then next row closed. On the open row you can sit with your family but others leave a gap of minimum 2 seats. Snacks, toilets etc need a bit more thought.

"4 pubs within walking distance to us have already reopened their doors, 3 micro pubs and one proper pub offering a take out service on real ales. They are proving to be very popular with large ques forming.

I note with interest Simon Dolan has served notice on Matt Hancock of his intention to sue the government over the lockdown.

Its my view that other rich and powerful business people such as Tim Martin will follow suit.

Being realistic they are not just going to sit back and let their empires be destroyed

Dolan a man who is worth around £145 million has set up a crowdfunding page to sue the government and says he needs around £150,000 "

I just read it, what a knob. The government have more important things to think about and they can hardly be blamed for the virus itself.

We’ll be straight round to our village pub the moment it opens , and we expect most others will too

"Our 2 are opening , it’s in our local newspaper, everyone is very happy. You don't have to go , keep you mask and gloves on and cross the road if you see the unclean coming "

When are they reopening, Where have you heard this from?

"I love people saying they are going to wait for a vaccine before retuning to normal ha ha so funny. We have a flu vaccine the nhs give it out every year, so how come we still have the flu. There will never be a vaccine we have to just get immune to it like all other viruses. "

Life has to get back to some semblance of reality and the economy restarted with or without a vaccine. Logically pubs clubs music venues and sport will be last to reopen. Pubs and restaurants perhaps with limited capacity will reopen in time. however It’s going to be 2021 before we see live music and sport returning in my view

Love to see you bang out a tune.

I'm totally much better in the audience, I can clear a room with my voice!

I don't think it will make a massive difference, alcohol can still be bought and cheaper than in pubs.

Sadly I think youre wrong shag and it's another one of many ticking timebombs caused by lockdown. An awful lot of people are in for a sudden shock when they find that they cant drink every day at the end of this

That is right, it is more expensive in pubs than at home.

That is also right but it is never the solution, a night drinking in the pub could equal to more than 1000kcal, many dont take into consideration the liquid calories, there are other things like exercising is a good substitute as well.

The majority of people I know are drinking more 2 factors being boredom due to having too much time on their hands and no work to get up for in the morning.

"The majority of the UK public are not in favour of things opening back up and life returning to something similar to before - and especially for pubs to be opening soon. This is the latest survey data just published. Less than 10% think pubs should be opened soon. "
and who do they ask ...??? Is it a broad selection. As I've yet to speak to someone who isnt looking forward to pubs being reopened and will be straight down the local...

I have always found statistics are very easily manipulated. It all depends on how questions are asked, to whom, when and what answer options there are.

Results can be skewed in my opinion.

Pubs will open back up this summer in one form or another probably with reduced capacity and table service pubs with large beer gardens will do better trade

I've tended to go shopping either first thing in the morning or mid afternoon and have had no problems with social distancing at all.

Pubs.. public houses .. purpose as I see it was for groups of people to gather together, be sociable and enjoy a drink

So .. given that is now not possible IMHO pubs need to stay closed for the foreseeable .. it may end them of course but mankind is a resourceful creature and will find other ways after all this of getting together in groups and having a drink or two .. Social isolation and 'pubs' for me won't work so I won't be going to any ..

I guarantee all you lot on your high horse will at some point use another major chain company who are just as bad without even knowing it, and some will be eating a spoons meal within a few months of it opening again.

Personally, bring on the big spoons breakfast. Love it.

The way I see it they should just open everything up again. If you catch the virus and die that's just life people die from worse things then Covid 19.
