Just a little over 24hrs when I got the txt and email saying I'm negative ,,, phew ,, but yes they must be working non stop to checking results and contacting peeps

As I work for the nhs ,we could apply and get tested within a 24/48 period ,no I didn't have any symptoms but people I had spent time with had contracted it ,so my thoughts was I also could have it with out having symptoms and could pass on ,it says negative ,it doesn't say if I've had it at some point

I never had a nasopharingeal swab myself, but it looks pretty uncomfortable. I wonder how many people are using the self-testing kits correctly.

Tests are pointless in my opinion, they only tell you if you had it at the time of the test, you could test negative but catch it on the way home from the test, so in fact be positive. In fact I’d say there is more probability of you catching it going to a place where people who think they have it are gathering and being tested.

Absolutely. Antibody tests would be a lot more beneficial to see what percentage of the population have already had the virus and recovered to get a real mortality figure.

(nhs advice)I self isolated under possible infection last week.

I went to work tonight and became breathless,dizzy and getting too hot(it's pretty physical keywork but not medical).

I told management that I was feeling bad,so phoned nhs.advice was to go home re-self isolate.

So I get home by taxi and a call comes asking me to come to a centre which would have taken me a few hrs to get to by public transport as I can't drive.They asked if I knew anyone that drives(I thought that'd be odd asking anyone for a lift due to social distancing),then they said would i be able tomorrow(which would have been easier for me obviously),but they decided I should just go.

anyway cut the long story short:-

they provided transport there and back(which would have cost about £60).

I get to the centre,doc phones me while still in the transport then takes me in.

I get blood pressure done,temp taken and breathing checked.

Docs advice, I probably do/did have the virus and just need more time to heal,given my jobs physical nature.So the re-self isolating is to continue.

that's it,no test or talk of tests- just a case of you might/might not have it.

I'm baffled

About a week after my first episode I woke up sweating bullets and freezing in the middle of the night but no fever. Went back to sleep after taking a shower. Next morning I felt perfectly fine.

I went to get a Covid 19 antibody test and I just got my results back today. I tested negative for Covid 19 antibody's. Test had a 86.43% Sensitivity; 99.57% Specificity; and 91.6 % Accuracy.

Fuck me. Worse scenario I can think of. I think I had the virus but no antibody's to show for it. Is that even possible?

There are infections that cause similar symptoms you know.

Antibody test(accurate one) or better drugs to combat the virus the only way forward. Thinking they probably already have an antibody test that works, but again supply and demand issue like the PPE. Agree with previous comments about test whether or not you have it. Peace of mind , but if you test negative in the morning you could go for your shopping, and catch in the afternoon??

Don’t really see the point of being tested to see if you have it if you are showing no symptoms, you could show negative then be in contact with somebody 5 mins later that does have it so you would need testing every day

Much better to have a test to say you have had it or not in my opinion, think that would be more beneficial.

eventually my employer needs to know I'm not faking, I have another week on self isolation(thats two, the first being just over the phone advice),the second by advice and 'treatment'.Eventually I'm going to have to get a Dr.s line won't I?-so in 7 days I can phone for an appointment?(the whole thing is backwards in my opinion).

I'm unclear if I'm getting paid in any capacity,surely we can't all get sick pay without evidence of illness?

so a self-assessment then,as so far all thats been taken is blood pressure,temp,and stethoscope!

*and some superficial advice of rest and paracetamol.

Who knows how this will end ,if you was to see what i see on a daily basics and there loved ones cant visit or see them, it's so contagious, and yes some are more vulnerable than others , all I can say if you get the chance to have the test then have it ,you have your own family and loved ones to think about ,, stay safe

That’s what people have done that I know, employers have been told to accept this instead of a regular doctors note, your employer shouldn’t be questioning it but may just pay you ssp instead of full sick pay if you normally get that.

If the test takes people who are infected out of the general population its got to be a good thing.These people who say you could be negative and catch it ten minutes later are missing the point,testing negative is not a free pass to do what you want you still need to follow the rules.If the people who do test positive are isolated then the negative people have less chance of catching it.Test and track will not be an option until numbers are low enough for it to work.

Where did you get those figures.

1 there is no reliable AB test

2 it can take weeks for a person to develop AB

3 you should have, in fact you probably were, tested for the presence of the virus as you'll continue to test positive for days or week

4 your symptoms don't seem to indicate covid19 but hey anything's possible

Am I the only one who does not get this "peace of mind " thing

Ok I think it would be fantastic if every test was positive and THEN every person totally isolated and hopefully could remember who they have been in contact with

That would be exceptionally useful and good value

Now all you know is like everyone else you haven't had it yet and that you are vulnerable

The peace of mind knowing you haven't yet caught it meaningfully lasts until you're next in an environment with other humans or where they have been

About what 24 hrs ???

I think the tests are maybe helpful when they stumble across an infection but a clear result is of no significance

But I will repeat. 48 hrs from your test logically you need to take another and I dont blame you if you do

Reliable Antibody test only way forward until vaccine or better treatment drugs. Yes they are available. No our government does not have enough of them. The government tells lies. Obviously herd immunity is part of their policy. Will they admit it No. Let's face it. Would you want to be the PM that admits you chose a policy that elected for 50k or more people to die?? People can be asymptomatic and still spead the virus. That is why they are now testing asymptomatic health/social care workers. Not a waste of a test at all. We know little about this disease so any info we have that can stop the spread is good.

Asymptomatic means you have it but dont show signs, so how do you know you have it before the test?

Do what I do every day ,putting my self at risk to help other ,there's a clue there HELP ,seeing what I see and can't do any more to help it's heart breaking then on here you get the fab politics who knows better ,please come and do my job then I'll offer you a test after 1 day and I'll guarantee you that you will snap my hand off for the test ,please wake up open your eyes and you will see what is going on and what we are all trying to do yes some days I think why do I put myself in this position, and here's the clue again I will always help those in need

They're not doing it in Wales

Unless they tested every member of staff at the start of every shift and got an immediate result it woud be futile. No good testing me, me working 3 shifts whilst waiting for results, to then find out I'm positive and should not have worked at all. Unless they find a test where an immediate result is available, testing all care home staff (without symptoms) will not reduce the spread.

Wasn't aimed directly at you, apologies if it came across that way.

Aimed at the government statement "Asymptomatic", people who have no signs of covid are only asymptomatic if they have it.

Shouldn't they just say people from groups x,y and z even if they are symptom free, can book or request a test.

I have not said all testing is pointless but feel free to twist my words. I just meant that testing symptom free care home staff would be usefull if we could have instant results, if the purpose is to stop asymptomatic infected staff passing on the virus to colleagues and residents. They would need to test every staff member before every shift and have an instant result for it to be beneficial. I am talking specifically about the plans to generically test staff with no symptoms who have not had contact with a confirmed case.

Do what I do every day ,putting my self at risk to help other ,there's a clue there HELP ,seeing what I see and can't do any more to help it's heart breaking then on here you get the fab politics who knows better ,please come and do my job then I'll offer you a test after 1 day and I'll guarantee you that you will snap my hand off for the test ,please wake up open your eyes and you will see what is going on and what we are all trying to do yes some days I think why do I put myself in this position, and here's the clue again I will always help those in need

I have 'something'. never in two weeks have i been unable to work.My job is abit physical and i'm currently self isolating(no diagnosis so far(even after attending a centre, no real test so far)

Those using the home kits, if they don't do it correctly they will get a negative sample regardless if they have it or not. You have to get the swap from the correct place, so people still going arou d thinking they don't have it and potentially spreading the virus more.

Why's it good news? Surly it would be better to have had it mildly than to have not had it and not know when/if you do get it if you're going to get it mildly, badly or even deadly.

I was ill with Covid like symptoms just after I got back from France. I don't know if it was Covid or not but I definitely hope it was.

I went for my test Wednesday & my results come back today as positive. Not felt particularly ill but I was sent for testing because of my job

Thankyou.

I've not felt 100% for a few days but I was still quite surprised by my result. Thought I was just knackered. Will get a retest asap as can't afford to be off work for long

You never know until you have the test I came back negative which is instant relief but yet I could still catch it now did you do the test yourself x

NHS worker.

Depends on your level of risk n exposure.

I'm not having a test.. I'm low risk.. No different than supermarket spread. I have no symptoms neither has my child or my mum..

test for those at higher risk then me.

Whether you have a test or not should not be penalised on here.

I didn't do it myself I went to a test centre..i only went to keep my manager happy
