Looking at the graph, we can see we have the highest figure of deaths in Europe.

Is anyone taking any notice of their line on the graph?

The graph has two lines for the UK, one in between Italy and France and is hospital deaths only. The other is way back on 30 days and is below the US and above the European countries for all Covid-19 deaths.

Italy are only reporting hospital deaths on that graph, worldometer current total for them is total deaths 27,359 as of yesterday

The answer is there serious proper lockdown and closed borders once again this country has been to soft.Now it is to late or is it but soft government does not have the nerve .

We could at least close the borders but no we do not do not get it

Whichever way its measured it is a fact that the UK stats are appalling especially considering we are an island and should have been able to have shut borders and lockdowned much earlier. This combined with the shameful lack of testing and PPE for health workers means that we are likely to experience the highest number of covid deaths in Europe and be one of the last, if not the last, to come out of lockdown restrictions. The government should be ashamed and held to account.

There's 65 million in the UK so factor that in the numbers. So 40 million Italians so only 2/3 our population, you have to look at deaths per 1000 to get a true figure.

It is a competition when the news keep telling us we are heading for the worse numbers in Europe.

The population density of Italy is 206 per sq km whereas the UK its 281 and England is even more densely populated at 430 sq km.

Milan, which is the largest city in the region of the epicentre of the Italian pandemic has a third of the population of London.

Currently the death rates per million population stand at Italy 453, UK 319.

Italy is more or less 15-20 days ahead of UK in its curve. You can't compare current death rates. Also UK only count people died in hospital while in Italy they count everyone who tested positive and they test thousands of people outside hospitals.

love the way people are treating it like a football match we have more than them.i was listening to a guy on the radio the other day and he seems to think if no vaccine is found the numbers will work out very similar per million over most of Europe.countries with a younger population will fare a bit better.

Well the goal should be to keep deaths as low as possible until a vaccine is found. Natural immunity after infection is not guaranteed just like finding a vaccine isn't. Of course if no vaccine is found, on the long run, everyone will get it anyway, but even in that worst case scenario some countries will perform better overall. For example I wonder how many people will die of other diseases because of denied treatments in UK compared to Germany or other places...

I’m well aware that the UK is 15 days behind

Italy however The figures I’ve quoted are taken from Worldometers which is hospital deaths only. It is believed that the true figures in Italy are also much higher. The UK has just released figures that include care home deaths which has increased the numbers by about 4500 but these are included in the weekly ONS figures.

I’m certainly not treating it as a football match if you’re referring to my post?

I was giving a bit of perspective with actual numbers In view of some of the claims that were being made.
