As someone who is trying to help those struggling with mental health issues at this hard time.. we ask them not to watch to much news and try to spend time relaxing and not focusing on the virus etc.

Well I watched a movie last night... and most adverts over 3/4 were about the virus... listening to the radio.. constantly getting government messages... ( I actually now switch it off the moment I hear the words.. this is a message)

Even If you click on a on demand movie you get one or two coronavirus adverts first..

I'm sure we all are aware of the situation and for those that are struggling this is a real knock.. I've had several people say they are just going to watch dvds. Or play playlists

But do we really need this almost constant reminders off the situation

Agreed. Those who are ignoring them aren’t going to start now - unless they change them for something more hard-hitting, and even then I wouldn’t expect much difference.

My youngest son stopped going to college well before the lockdown because he was contantly seeing covid stuff on his media feeds and he was worried about catching it. He isn't even mentally ill.

Propoganda has that effect, its designed to make you comply through fear. That doesn't make the message wrong but I thing the slightly menacing air is deliberate and I agree that it will worsen people's anxiety and other mental health issues.

We need the adverts

1) so we know there's a virus and to stay in.

2) because no one selling so they need the government money from their ads.

3) they think no one watches the news and are thick so need telling 3 time's an hour.

This just goes to show what a joke this all is.

I agree. And the advice on the actual stays safe but mental health website says... to limit your exposure to news or information to stop people focussing on it.

Yup exactly this if the adverts stop they will assume that it's all ok.

I think assuming that everyone reads and listened to the news is a bit of a short sighted attitude coz clearly they don't given the amount of assholes out and about at the moment.

So whilst I see your point OP speaking as someone who suffers from severe depression myself and a daughter who has chronic anxiety.

I have had to tell myself to get over it as the adverts are for the greater good and yes some people do need constantly reminding because it's clear that the message still hasn't sunk in yet.

Take care OP your not alone despite how it feels at times.

My visit from the black dog used to be under control and I was able to keep it to a monthly basis now it's visiting daily unfortunately.

I just tell it too fuck off, doesn't always work tho

I would prefer them to keep up with the adverts as a constant reminder. Let’s face it, there are a fair number of people that need to be reminded.

Hearing them a dozen times an hour probably has the opposite effect to what's intended - it likely is going to make people switch off. All communication has to be sensitive to the audience, with empathy. This is now missing the target imo

Maybe been for a few days but the first time I noticed was tonight: that there are adverts now using it as their selling point. Capitalism being as adaptable as ever and not missing a trick.

I all but stopped watch the main news programmes a few years ago. I was "forced" to watch when Mum was alive but now all I watch now is the end of the local news to get the weather forecast if the weather is a factor in what I need to do.

Fits in with Boris's wrestling with a mugger analogy too.

the people that are ignoring or bending the rules know them just as well if not better than those that have it in their heads.

I no longer bother watching the briefing where as I used to wait for it. I've taken to reading lots and listing to my playlists as no adverts in books x

And that’s a good idea. If any of it was negatively affecting me then I would step away from it. There is no point in making things more difficult for yourself.

Yes

If not people will think it’s ok to move about again when quite frankly it’s not.

Maybe look at the positive and see it as a positive reminder to why we are doing it.

I see they are now removing adverts for gambling sites....about time too. These vulnerable and sick people (addicts) are damaged enough by these vulture's adverts....even more so in these virus times.... should have been done much sooner...

Media love a war and a catastrophe. As such all you see is Covid at the moment as they are absolutely loving it and love the way they can ask impossible to answer questions and appear like they are doing their job. BBC is worst for this. Was on the front page yesterday wanting to see what was going on in the world. Absolutely NOTHING other than Covid.

Don't get me wrong, reminders are needed so people do not get complacent, but they are missing the flip side which is Covid fatigue where there is nothing in the news but this. There are many other things ongoing, but hardly a mention!!

I now ignore the news, catch up with the briefing, but as soon as they turn to the journalists for questions it's a switch off. There is no new information. so I listen to the official feeds and all speculation and feeding in non-experts is now 100% ignored.

An hours programming has approximately 15 minutes of adverts and they are mostly at the same time slots so channel hopping rarely escapes them.

The Government ones which may now be getting boringly repeptitive are understandable but the ones from corporations / companies making themselves out as saviours are rather stomach wretching.

Totally get that, I only watch the morning news and that's it, I try and avoid it for the rest of the day.

Sadly, you`re correct. It didn`t help that the initial instructions about exercise were so open to interpretation. Some people did a walk round the block which was fine but then the cyclists started pushing the envelope and have been cycling miles and miles. On Good Friday you`d think that the Tour De France had been routed through my village and I saw three times the amount of cyclists I normally see on a Bank Holiday.
