"No. The deaths reported today, are not from the last 24 hours, a lot of them may have happened weeks ago. Cant even use the number of new cases as a guideline, the more people tested, the more positives will be found. At the minute I am taking more note of the number of people in hospital with it. These numbers are going down. Let's see what happens over the next 2 weeks. I do think however people blatantly ignoring the current rules need punishing harder." Yes that makes sense, the hospital admissions is what should be reported as thats the biggest indicator.

"If the virus has a quarantine period of 2 weeks, and we have been lockdown for 5 weeks and yet we are still getting over 4000 new cases per day. How do 4000 people get infected during lockdown? " Simple answer..is.. people are still moving about..key workers..people going shopping etc..care providers.. If I under stand it right..it's upto 14days.. contagious..pre symptoms..so there's is weeks and weeks chain reaction..I get it..I give it to someone on day 12..they repeat this ..and the next person is at day 36..etc

"Seen so many people out today and yesterday on my daily walk. Families in cars, groups of young men meeting up at the park, roads busier. The deaths are not dropping significantly considering we have been in lockdown for over a month. Do you think stricter lockdown rules will be applied? What you say makes perfect sense. If the virus has a quarantine period of 2 weeks, and we have been lockdown for 5 weeks and yet we are still getting over 4000 new cases per day. How do 4000 people get infected during lockdown? Today's figure of 813 is still really high by world standards. There are countries where their lockdown rules are being relaxed.... and those "relaxed" rules are still more strict than ours are now... " The increase in cases will be largely due to the increase in tests being done. The death rates will include people who have been ill for weeks. So the stats don't give an accurate picture and never will. The only one that will ever be accurate is hospital admissions. They still don't seem to be sharing much detail on recoveries..... A

"it's partly because people aren't seeing it as connected to them. The news is full of the politics of this but you'd never know 800+ were dying every day. The political and legal power to raise money ??? What do you mean As for tests the are increasing the numbers and from a zero starting point I think they're doing quite well. What would indicate it's working and what would be the conditions for ending it. " The current rules are OK they just need to make people observe them. I'd go with huge fines (hundreds and thousands of pounds) and random checks. They should also prevent any business from re-opening unless their social-distancing measures have been assessed and deemed sufficient. The number of hospital admissions could be a way to understand if it's working. But be aware of the "occupied beds" graph in govern slides: that is a different thing from hospital admissions as it is also influenced by the growing death toll. The lockdown shouldn't be lifted until the numbers are low enough to allow us to handle the inevitably stronger second peak. We should also be prepared to handle a second, longer, lockdown. The govern should have used this time to find a way to reduce the number of people that are unable to work (e.g. re-employment, work from home, real social distancing at work) to a number that is sustainable by the benefit system for a very long time.

Look at the official graph for todays figures the orange deaths go back to march and continue daily right upto today. For the figues released are not deaths which happened from 2pm yesterday to 2pm today, they are figures of official registered deaths from covid19

"FFS guys, please get real, the government can’t enforce a lockdown on a pandemic thats out the stables, half way down the track before they decided to enforce it ! London and Birmingham is full of immigrants hanging out in family groups that the police have been told to leave well alone as not to enforce racial tensions. Everytime you see a picture of a police officer enforcing the lockdown, it’s either a white sunbather in a park or a white dad playing with his kids in the front garden. I’m not racist but I do understand the dynamics of this country. Also, lip service being paid with social distancing to queue to get in a supermarket or walk around it, when wall boarders are standing two feet from one another to build plasterboard walls on construction sites ! Don’t forget the 100,000 or so a week airline passengers that were coming into the UK from other countries until very recently. As for the army on the streets, that worked really well in Northern Ireland didn’t it, do a stronger lockdown, how would that work ?"

I hear there's a new initiative to bring in a better tracking system to get more up to date statistics? Hopefully this will help with the control and get us back to normal asap?

"What I’m trying to say is the government lockdown is bollox ! Work from home if you can, but if you can’t, go to work. Only go out to shop for essentials but B&Q is open, Go out for exercise and you can drive anywhere you want as long as you exercise for longer than it took you to drive there ! On that basis, it’s not really a lockdown is it ? Many people HAVE to work B&Q sell your essential stuff Your not infecting anyone when you drive Next ?" Come on guys you really need to up your game. You're being all sensible and stuff, hardly in keeping with the "Mr Angry from Purley" rhetoric is it?

That is ONE disease that has been around for thousands of years that we have a successful vaccine for that has no animal reservoir. You are talking BS. Pandoras box is open like it or not and covid won't be going anywhere any time soon. Get on with life and stop worrying about 1 extra virus to catch out of the many you already could have been catching in life.

Regardless of whether you have a partial lockdown or full house arrest you will not be at the seaside this year unless you happen to live there. This virus will only be beaten by either herd immunity (not happening because we are in lockdown however weak it is) or a vaccine.

"Large Temporary morgues at most hospitals holding hundreds ...." "Normal" weekly deaths 10,000 currently around 15,000. Depending on where you get "facts" from there are around 1500 hospitals in the UK so doubt there are hundreds in temp morgues at most hospitals, I have seen pics of them being set up just incase.

I do think however people blatantly ignoring the current rules need punishing harder."

"I think the government have got it wrong in every way possible. Too slow to lock down, introduce testing and ensure adequate equipment. Also too slow to ease lock down for the non-vulnerable as the money spent on furlough would be better spent on support and protection for the vulnerable while the rest of the population gains some measure of immunity with a low death rate. Unfortunately they are reacting to hysteria. I’m not sure whether they annoy me more or less than the people who think mentioning the economy is selfish and we should have total lock down. The less people who have a job, the more businesses who go bust, the less tax is paid and the less money the government has to spend on the nhs, benefits etc. And for those who say ‘tax the rich’ it doesn’t work that way, it’s a balancing act, if you increase tax too much people have less incentive to earn more money so productivity drops. Don’t get me started on all the people who will die because the media has scared hem from seeking hospital treatment for other things. The one thing this does tell us is that a lot of people aren’t clever enough to form a balanced opinion and a country that is driven by shouty media is a disaster."

"The government have been very clever hiding how many deaths have occurred from virus ( which is less than people know or think) Local hospital wards aren't full and nurses are not even finishing full 12 hour shifts due to lack of work Temp hospitals at exhibition centres haven't been used yet All deaths being put down to covid due to no post mortem so non covid deaths being including in death tolls Lack of testing for patients suspected of having it so no clear stats on how many people actually have it Like many still working full time so it's pointless for a lock down on weekends to go into work Monday and mix with others who have used public transport although have stuck to it Lack of true knowledge brings fear to everyone and government should be more honest So they are exaggerating the figures? Yes" Why?

"Seen so many people out today and yesterday on my daily walk. Families in cars, groups of young men meeting up at the park, roads busier. The deaths are not dropping significantly considering we have been in lockdown for over a month. Do you think stricter lockdown rules will be applied? Maybe you shouldn't be going for a daily walk if you feel stronger lockdown is required." OP is a little all over the place as on another post he thinks herd immunity is the only way out ....now that's what I heard

"Let's lockdown more like Spain only go out with permission children not allowed out at all, then our death rate would be lower like their's. Hang on higher number than us with less population, lockdown is a blunt tool so will never work. Plenty of other countries had lockdown as but have had far fewer deaths. Its more due to 1 measure it's how the crises has been handled overall that's important." What’s the measure you refer to?

"Anyone admitted to hospital showing any symptoms of the covid are not tested as not enough tests to do this Many other conditions can appear to be covid such as copd or other things that raise temp or give flu like symptoms So any deaths that occur in nursing homes or hospitals come under the covid death figures as no autopsy are being done " COPD doesn't raise temperature or give flu like symptoms and practically everyone admitted to hospital is tested for covid19

Well as folk won’t listen then most likely “yes” and if they had only done as asked in the first place then we wouldn’t all have to suffer for their selfishness

The one thing this does tell us is that a lot of people aren’t clever enough to form a balanced opinion and a country that is driven by shouty media is a disaster." But if people went about their business then that would increase cases, hospitalisations and deaths which in turn has an effect on the economy when business owners have staff that increasingly have to isolate due to the virus and we get another spike and businesses have to close again.

"I haven’t read all the posts on this thread. , but it wouldn’t surprise me if the number of hospital admissions go up in two weeks time, judging by the amount of people I see out and about this last week . " Why it's taken 5 weeks to change the numbers so the 2 weeks rule is bollocks.

"The government have been very clever hiding how many deaths have occurred from virus ( which is less than people know or think) Yes this is just and elaborate prank that all world govern decided to play so we can all have a very big laugh at the end No one said it was a prank it was stated that the figures that the government have provided are not accurate due to any death taking a covid stat Let's be honest we have been locked down for over a month now and have the figures changed nope Many deaths have happened and would of happened even if covid wasn't around but they have been lumped together Like said comments are from someone still working full time coming into contact with others who have used public transport perhaps we should of all said fuck it an we ain't working let everyone fend for them selves " Look at the numbers again, maybe take some primary school maths lessons too... learn what doubling means! pre-lockdown and for some weeks after the number arriving at hospital and the number dying doubled every 3-4 days!! Lockdown has very clearly stalled this exponential rate of infection, Had the trend been allowed to contained we would now be seeing 10’s of thousands dying each week, if not each day! Now we are many months, perhaps years from knowing if lockdown has reduced the total number who will ultimately die as a result of Covid19 but it has bought time to work on a vaccine.
