Isolation advice

I work in a care home and one of my colleagues lives with her sister who has been in contact with covid 19 patients I found out yestersay I told my boss I was going into isolation becouse I live with vulnerable

Adults I produced an isolation note after my gp advice I got a phone call today off her to say she won't accept it becouse I don't have covid or live with someone with covid. I can't stay off work for finance reason So I said I would go back to work on Monday she told me she had filled my position whoat should I do xx

Do you have a contracted hours?

Or notice period?

You could ask if you have been dismissed, but might be worth dropping an email / text to ask what hours you are in next week.

Although it does sound like you have been sacked.

(Not a lawyer) but unless you have been working there for less than 2 years you need to have one of the "protected characteristics" or unfair dismissal does not apply.

Certainly the former and to do the latter you need to keep all correspondence etc to help any case you bring..

According to what you've said they did nothing wrong unfortunately.

Not quite sure what you mean by isolation note though ?

Do you mean you got a letter from your gp that you are high risk if that's the case If you needed to isolate you shouldn't have been working you should have been paid for the 12 weeks from you got the letter.

Definitely put in a claim for UC asap, it now takes 7 weeks for the claim to even start paying out now (usually 'only' takes 6 weeks).

Just because you live with someone who is in the shielding category it does not make you eligible to be off work aswell unless the person is symptomatic and you are following the 14 day isolation advice. You should continue attending work as normal and maintain a safe distance from any vulnerable persons which you live with. You can't just not go to work. Your employer had sufficient grounds to terminate your employment if you failed to attend work without good reason which seems to be the case here.

May be slightly different cos you're in UK and I'm in Ireland, but I also live and work in a private residence with 6 over 70 year olds. Another client that I accompany to hospital appointments tested positive for the virus. I isolated for the remainder of the 14 days. Spoke to GP and the health helpline and both said I would be ok to come out of isolation if I had no symptoms. Testing was never available to me. I had no symptoms. I came back into gen pop with the rest of the household, but i don't know if I was negative or just asymptomatic. The lines are very blurred.

It sounded like a discussion you had and you didn't miss any days when you worked but that they have now effectively dismissed you, although you informed them that you were continuing to make yourself available.

I'd echo the post that suggests that you confirm your availability, from Monday, following your discussions upon the medical situation and that you request confirmation, as you have continued to remain available to them, as per your employment details. Perhaps email it, as it's weekend atm.

Keeping copies and a log of the dates/times of interactions are important too. They should be giving notice as well as following a disciplinary process, if they view something that you've done as subject to disciplinary procedure.

It's probably worth a look at ACAS employment guidance too.
