Bundesliga bosses have signed off on a May 9 return date.

- A maximum of 322 people will be allowed inside stadiums.

- The 1,100 players involved will need to be tested for Covid-19 symptoms.

- Stringent hygiene precautions will be put in place including pitchside sinks.

- Players have agreed to wash their own kits.

Football is almost back ??????

322 people.

So taking away the the two teams playing, subs, coaching staff, officials, team owners, ground staff, TV staff and security I'm guessing there will be no public there?

Let's hope they get covid if money is so important to them. Playing football does nothing for no one so I'm not sure how it is a necessity to risk opening gates to allow the game to continue. Brains are obviously in the balls they kick about. Ridiculous.

Maybe thees a realisation that we all need to learn to live with this virus as best as we can.

Not only does football and sport in general employ thousands of people when you factor in club staff, cameramen, network staff etc...but maybe it would actually provide a huge morale boost and distraction for millions of people.

Don’t wish this disease on anyone, you may not like the game or agree with their proposal to restart but there’s no need to wish illness or potential death on somebody.

Sky aren't charging for their sports channels right now. You can suspend it online and they won't charge you but you can still watch the sports channels (not that there is anything on except repeats!)

They'd be fucking stupid not to. Football is a great tax source and the numbers of people involved is way too small to make a difference to R1.

Hopefully, if its the German ones. I'd like to think they'd keep it free if the English leagues resume but I can't see it.

What's your point? The money in football comes from the TV revenue. You need games for that. Football clubs are barely profitable anyway, are you suggesting that the football clubs are going to pay their players to stay at home for the rest of 2020 if there are no games?

football clubs will have to pay them if they have a contract simple as that it’s down to the players to either take a reduced wage or terminate the contract

Yeah because life is that simple!

The money has to come from somewhere, it doesn't just magic itself into their bank account. Please consider the fifa financial fair play rules before telling me where the money will come from.

It’s not a point I’m making, and it’s not a gotcha question either - just thinking it through.

I’m guessing tv revenue will already have been agreed some time ago, and presumably already paid to clubs via the premier league ?

The only extra tax hm treasury would gain would be from the ability of the punter to spend cash, wherever that may be ..

Is it a valid reason to say play the games sooner rather than later as it will generate additional tax revenue ?

I didn't say it just comes from TV revenue, I'm saying TV revenue is the biggest source and without it the clubs can't pay their wage bill. So again, how are the clubs going to pay the wages? You think there are many businesses lining up to splash cash on renaming a stadium right now as opposed to pay their own workers?

I'm not going to pretend to have read their contract but these are very unusual times. Burger King decided not to pay its rent this month. That wouldn't be acceptable in any normal times would it. Are the broadcasters going to pay for games that haven't happened, I can't imagine it. If I owned a football club and I knew there would be no matches in the UK for 2020, the first thing I'd do is ship my best players off to play in Germany on loan. There goes the wages and the tax.

unfortunately a lot of clubs I think will go bust as most footballers haven’t agreed to terminate contracts or take a pay cut Simon Jordan wrote an interesting article on it about how the only way clubs mainly smaller clubs would survive Is by players taking a vast reductions in pay but as he said they have contracts that are pretty watertight and clubs are over a barrel

I didn't say it just comes from TV revenue, I'm saying TV revenue is the biggest source and without it the clubs can't pay their wage bill. So again, how are the clubs going to pay the wages? You think there are many businesses lining up to splash cash on renaming a stadium right now as opposed to pay their own workers? unfortunately a lot of clubs I think will go bust as most footballers haven’t agreed to terminate contracts or take a pay cut Simon Jordan wrote an interesting article on it about how the only way clubs mainly smaller clubs would survive Is by players taking a vast reductions in pay but as he said they have contracts that are pretty watertight and clubs are over a barrel "

Well those are the options then,

The clubs go bankrupt and don't pay the tax,

The clubs ship their players abroad and don't pay the tax,

The clubs play in empty stadiums and pay the tax.

I know which I prefer.

Let's hope they get covid? Real nice guy you are!

Maybe thees a realisation that we all need to learn to live with this virus as best as we can.

Not only does football and sport in general employ thousands of people when you factor in club staff, cameramen, network staff etc...but maybe it would actually provide a huge morale boost and distraction for millions of people.

And it pays a shit load of tax that we could do with right now

They are still paying tax on their salaries now, yes? Where’s the extra tax coming from, assuming fans will not be attending match days or watching in pubs?

What's your point? The money in football comes from the TV revenue. You need games for that. Football clubs are barely profitable anyway, are you suggesting that the football clubs are going to pay their players to stay at home for the rest of 2020 if there are no games?

Thats what they are mostly doing now. Paying the players tens of thousands a week....but furloughing the non-playing staff

Ok and how long can they sustain that? Until 2021?"

Personally i don't give a monkey's chuff.....they could all disappear for me.... Finance and big business ruined any concept of sport in football years ago

I'm not going to pretend to have read their contract but these are very unusual times. Burger King decided not to pay its rent this month. That wouldn't be acceptable in any normal times would it. Are the broadcasters going to pay for games that haven't happened, I can't imagine it. If I owned a football club and I knew there would be no matches in the UK for 2020, the first thing I'd do is ship my best players off to play in Germany on loan. There goes the wages and the tax. "

I'm sure nobody would want to hire your players to their club. Even in the Polish league

We need to void this season and name the Champions alphabetically.

Start next season a bit earlier and spread it over a longer period to ensure proper testing and monotoring of symptons.

Shows what you know about football!!

In Germany average ticket price is 16 euros as opposed to 80 sterling in Premier league. The clubs there are self etheric unless the PL. Hence why they are back playing in Germany, for the sport. Not the money..

Ignoring the obvious and rationale for your comment, I really don't see the point in voiding the season. Void it and start the next season in August? With likely disruption due to further waves, the following seasons could be disrupted.

If we play this one out it gives football fans some enjoyment over the summer for the lack of football at the moment and euros. The next season could be picked up in August and the other cup competitions cancelled including European or change the format to a straight knockout.

Yes, I am a Liverpool fan so clearly want this season to complete if possible but I think all football fans need to see a return as soon as it is safe enough.

I am not the biggest footba fan, however saying football does nothing for no one is fairly ignorant.

Football helps to lift moral, give a sense of belonging, pride, joy etc.

It is also one of the biggest employers in the world, which allows the flow of uncone and tax.

Sone people are getting bored and would love to see the return of some live competitive sports.

I believe, for many it would also be a sign of hope for the future that things are going in the right direction.

Personally i think the testing kits would be better serves elsewhere (especially in Britain) but i am unsure of the situation in Germany other than they seem to have handled the whole situatuin so far better.

Cant really "null and void" the season as then supporters could look for refunds and season tickets holders reimbursed.

If it can be done safely then go for it. Watching virtual F1 or footballers playing FIFA isn't quite the same!

Anything that helps people pass the time and get some kind of normality back has to be a good thing. And if you miss watching it at the ground then go on Zoom with the people who sit around you while you all watch it. Likewise with your mates from the pub.

As someone who takes in at least one game a week, this is being dragged out far too long.

Football is for the fans. Playing in empty stadiums is pointless.

Football should never have stopped.

This is the way it should have been sorted...

All the players should have been isolated at the start of the lockdown. After 7 days all those not displaying symptoms could have been flown to Minsk.

Football continued in Belarus for ages and the level of cases is extremely low.

Any player back in the uk that didn’t go out in the first batch could’ve joined 14 days later.

Realistically these are young lads at the absolute peak of physical fitness. The chance of any of them dying must be close to 1 in a million.

The risk of picking up virus in a country like Belarus where there is practically no travel in an out of the country (yes, I was there in August last year) is effectively negligible

Season would have been pretty much done and dusted by now.

Another idea..

Scrap the charity shield this year

Instead each club gets to send 5 players to Wembley. First to five penalties, with the keeper having to take a kick.

Bottom 8 teams play off to make 4, leaving 16

Top plays bottom in first round then a draw.

All over in 2 hours with a chance of any of the clubs winning a trophy.

If you’re a total cynic, the gambling returns would be colossal

To be honest, though I hate Football with a vengeance, I must say your comment is utterly out of order.

The fact you are emphasising the hope you'd wish people to be struck down with this virus is abhorrent.

I can understand the reasons for allowing Football to return but it shouldn't be restricted to just Football; allow Rugby and say Cricket too, to resume, in a sense of balance across the sporting world.

As soon as governments give the green light to sport and other non social distancing measures then it will have a really bad impact on the strength of their own guidelines. One rule for one and another rule for others.

I'm a big believer that we need to get back to some kind of life again, but only when it's safe to do so. If they can say it's OK for 322 people to be mixing in a stadium, and given they will probably be all football related staff then they can't really say you can't go visit your family???

Nope but all the talk is to award Liverpool the title. If they fix the top of the Premier, then they should sort the bottom out as well. And that applies to all this talk about giving West Brom and Leeds a free pass to the Premier.

Either void the whole lot, or get the whole lot sorted.

So lets get this right. A load of overpaid dimwits with brains in their boots are going to be allowed to start playing sport before anyone else is allowed to, just because Sky needs to get some revenue back in and start fleecing it's subscribers again. Can we have a public outcry please and tell them to go back home like the rest of us and void the season like the rest of us are having to that play a bit of sport.

logistically football wont be the first sport back.... its just the one with the biggest TV contracts so it could survive behind close doors at top flight level....

it would be easier for example to bring back golf and motor racing first because you can both those without crowd plus they kinda social distance themselves anyway, plus the teams can be spread across a greater area....

and with the TV deals... again they can do/make money without crowds....

its going to be those games that need crowd revenue to survive that will struggle....... thats why i can absolutely see a situation with football where the top 2 leagues are played out... and the bottom 2 leagues call it a day now!

the big "team" sports will be the last to come back because of the amount of people in one general area...

so for example... if as is being muted in scotland.. they are going to not allow crowds of more than 10 in one place.... how you going to allow 11/a/side footy?... 13/a/side rugby league? 15/a/side rugby union?

I fear we're going to get a kicking for this however I couldn't agree more. I lost interest in football at age 12 and have never understood why a children's game holds so much fascination for so called 'grown ups'? And fat blokes with beer bellies chanting in pubs about how'we won' I find quite ridiculous. Ducks head below parapit quickly to avoid the backlash???!!

What your saying it's not needed ok let's cancel hand clapping all them people outside at the same time. "

I can't see these two things are related. The clapping represents our support and appreciation for normal underpaid people dedicated to trying to save lives not a bunch of vastly overpaid prema donnas prancing about for 90minutes a week? Let's be nice shall we?

There seems to be a hair-shirt mentality in the uk promoted by the newspapers. Anyone who enjoys themselves is pilloried, regardless of whether they are likely to infect anyone. It applies to someone sunbathing in a park or cycling in the countryside. Don't, whatever you do, enjoy yourself!

Let them play football for the millions who enjoy watching it.

Agreed, took my daughter to a match when she was small - an air of violence and intimidation was ever present, plus moronic, obscene chants by fat bellied bores. Never went again.

so we know the dutch league has been cancelled....

now the french league has been cancelled as well.... the french are allowing up to groups of 10, but are not allowing exceptions for sport... and they have said this will remain in place till september, not even behind closed doors....

belgium are due to make a decision in the next few days as well....

Did you see the draw for the next RWC is still planned to go ahead? implications for the teams currently down in the world rankings who will possibly not get to play the games that may (or may not) allow them to move up the rankings

Can you guess who I am thinking about

Where there's big money involved, either in possible promotion or relegation, TV and other contracts then there will be lawyers involved..

Would like to be in a situation where the lower leagues and grassroots sports don't become part of the history of this virus but that would require an approach across the board which I don't think will happen..

easier way for the TV companies/leagues to get around that is to allow them to show extra live games spread across the rest of the contract, therefore no one loses any money...

I think sky have already said if the league was cancelled they would not come back for the money anyway.....

i would love to say yes... i just don't think it will!

the arguement is going to be what do you do with promotion/relegation

me personally... i would say top 2 up from championship and no relegation... so both top 2 divisions will have 22 next year... then season after you have have 4down/ 2up to go back to where we are....

As a football fan I would like to see the season finish as I am sure all football fans would as well. It’s now looking 50 / 50 with regards to the premiership with regards to when it starts and finishes and when the new season starts. My own personal thoughts as a alternative to ending thid season. How about a 11 v 11 penalty shootout behind closed doors that way players wouldn’t need 3 weeks to get match fit and there shouldn’t be any injuries.

How can you compare zero IQ’s (footballers) with students.

Footballers are those that don’t learn at school and follow the path bestowed upon them by their wannabe fathers.

I don't think you can generalise like that to be honest. A bet a lot of footballers are quite intelligent really and some probably wisely study at school too.

No I agreed with the argument of that scottish bloke because it seems so nonsensical to go to all that expense and trouble to play a few ruddy games of football just so they can declare who is the winner. Surely they can just do that themselves or is football so important that they'd risk the lives of the players and use valuable testing kits, which at one time were like rocking horse shit. They should do the right thing, declare the season over and if they deem fit award the prizes based on where they are in the league now.

I have just ditched sky sports in protest by the way. I was out of contract anyway, the bill was soaring to over £ 100/month and I totally disagree with the resumption of football.

Saw this online, doesn't look good for football starting soon.

Anderson, Liverpool's first directly elected mayor, told BBC Sport: "Even if it was behind closed doors, there'd be many thousands of people who would turn up outside Anfield.

"There's not many people who would respect what we were saying and stay away from the ground, a lot of people would come to celebrate so I think it's a non-starter."

Asked about whether playing at a neutral venue would help, he said: "Even then, I guess that a lot of people would turn up outside Anfield to celebrate and I understand the police's concerns around that, so there's a real difficulty here for us.

"I think it would be really difficult for the police to keep people apart and maintain social distancing if they were going to celebrate outside Anfield. It would be farcical.

"It's difficult for us to try to stop people gathering in parks when the weather has been good, especially young people. And I fear people would just ignore it.

The mayor of Liverpool is right. The problem is that it has no coverage what has happened before. While other countries closed borders and public places, people in the UK lived freely as if they had never done anything. Our mayors, prime minister and ministers did not care much. So these current fears and excessive concern for citizens seem to be devoid of honesty and hypocrisy.

Players refs etc. will have to be tested for every match. We have an insufficient supply of test kits at present so why waste them on football when there are far more necessary people in NHS, care, 999, transport, supermarkets etc.

End season now plan for next season without crowds which will be need an awful lot of planning.

Pay them a simple wage? They get paid massive wages because they generate massive income for the clubs. It's a business like any other.

Oh and essentially half of their massive wages go to the taxman. Its not like they are paid by the government and taking wages away from nurses etc.

The NHS staff have been fantastic and I hope they all receive some form of bonus payment at the end of this but I think you would have something to say if the hospital porters were suddenly put on 80 grand per week!

Just saying.

(This’ll be the equivalent of ‘Take Me Out’ when the guy says something daft and all the girls turn their lights off) "

"They are overpaid. The nhs staff should be paid the big bucks not a bunch of guys kicking a football. Pay them a simple wages not millions. Just my opinion on football.

As for starting again I say not while the country is on lockdown. Football should be one of the last things starting up.

Just my 2 cents

Please dont comment if you dont understand how football works.

The players earn their clubs far more then they get in wages."

Much as I love football, I do struggle to believe that when so many clubs are struggling with debt and wage bills and transfer fees are their biggest expense. Or am I over simplifying it?

"NHS MAY BE"

It's not taxpayers money. The NHS has been run into the ground for years but you're shouting at the wrong targets

No surprise that the bottom 6 clubs in the Premier League are against all current proposals in getting the season finished!

Greed rules in the Premier!

Trust me I am a huge football fan and so are all of my friends and family and would love nothing more than to have it back again . However , my priorities are my said friends and family so bugger this season and start afresh next season . It's an unfortunate situation but please , more people are dying every day because we took too long in implementing safety measures so bringing "normality" back too soon will make this shite last even longer.

I listen to talk sport every day and the general topic is because Liverpool are so close then they should be given the title as they haven't won it for 30 years , SO WHAT !!! The reason they havent won it is because they haven been good enough , period !!

I'm a Luton town fan btw

The reason they haven't won it this season is because the season is on hold, If its safe for them to start playing they will continue the season. I think the 25th of May is the cut of point

Maybe you need to read my post again, the reason they haven't won it for the last 30 years is because they weren't good enough and shouldn't be handed the title because of that .

If they play the rest of this season it will screw up next season so why ruin 2 seasons when they can just void this one and start afresh for the next .
