"Because they have not respected my space and gone against all advise on social distancing " I feel you. I was in the queue for the supermarket and the person in front was walking a bit slow because they had a trolley. No problem. But the fucking whamen behind me seemed determined to walk at her own pace up into my ass. I gave her a death stare that seemed to solve it.

"How about asking her to wait/give you space, politely? Just because we are having to live in this madness, it doesn't mean being rude is justifiable. Being on lockdown and not being able to see your loved ones or your friends is hard enough without others being rude. We are all in it together, why not try and make it a little bit easier on everyone? "

" Chill.out bro" Agreed, i think the problem is though, everyones anxiety levels are through the roof resulting in people over reacting ... both the person rushing round the shop trying to get out quicker not thinking about who they are bashing into and the person being bashed who flips There will be the odd *hole just being their usual mannerless self, but most probably just need to take a breather calm down and think about how else they could approach the situation ... stressing about it all sure isnt making us any healthier

"Hands up, step back, say sorry youre too close. Maybe she had early dementia? " That was my initial thought...I’ve see a fair few older confused people in the supermarkets not sure on what they are supposed to be doing with the queuing, social distancing etc. Maybe it would have been better to tell them politely first and then if they were just being ignorant and rude give it them both barrels!

Shouting 'F off' at an old woman, who maybe confused, scared and not fully understanding the situation. Maybe use this time to work on dealing with situations a little more assertively rather than full on aggression. One day you may pick on the wrong person and it will end very badly for you.

"I told a elderly lady I would break her legs last week ooooooo shoot me down!! She had been rude to Tesco staff more than once, she hadn’t followed signs in store and moaned she had to walk every isle and only wanted 2 items. She then walked to the front of the que to pay and when staff directed her to the back she ended up moving behind me, she then moved her trolly so it hit the back of my legs. When I turned around almost expecting a sorry (stupidly) she moved forward and the trolly hit me again the wheel catching the back of my ankle. She then began to moan at me about walking up the isles and said I won’t be coming to Tesco if this carries on So accidentally my mouth and brain hit a bump as I said ‘it’s ok love you won’t be able to walk up and down the isles again, because if you hit me with your trolly again I will break your fucking legs’ The guy on the till snorted laughing and the checkout manager had to walk away for laughing. My point is......not all old people care or think how they affect others when out, we are scared so I totally get the OPs reaction " I did chuckle at this. And I also agree with OP's point. Having a swear at someone shouldn't be as triggering for people as someone willinging putting OP's life, and their loved one's lives at risk. Flying headbutts (with correct PPE of course) for anyone getting in my space.

I can only imagine it was not intentional, Shout and abusing an elderly person is just not right. Was said lady coughing and sneezing all over the place. I think you could have handled this situation a little bit more diplomatically. It’s difficult at the best of times to observe the social distancing guidelines in supermarkets.

I was verbally abused by an elderly lady walking ahead of me to the end of a queue! I’d slowed my pace down, walked behind her at a good distance but she turned on me in the most awful way when we got to the end, thinking i was going to jump the queue. Vile lady and attitude! But I still didn’t yell in her face as that would have made me look a c%#t in front of everyone else and why would I want to do that?

Think the whole shop heard me shout f*** off you stupid woman the nearest shop assistant glared at her and the women glared at me daggers gggrrr " The other week I queued over 40 minutes to get into Tescos then another 10 minutes to go up one of the one way aisles "all marked out in 2 meter boxes on the floor" because an old lady was taking her time to choose something while in the marked out box in front of me which was no issue at all, only for another person to come up the aisle once I managed to move forward, not queue in the box behind and just walk past me virtually brushing shoulders to get just in front of me. I didn't swear at her but I let her know I'd waited 10 minutes to get to where I was and the lines on the floor are for social distancing and she'd just come tramming up without a care for anyone else. It did piss me off but you can make your feelings known without verbally abusing people.

"This forum makes me feel better thought i was the only person who had told someone to back the fuck up in the supermarket.sooner people get the social distancing sooner we get out of this mess." Back the fuck up ? Has this taken the place of 'excuse me' or 'can we keep social distance please?' Like a few people i've witnessed you seem to think that social distancing gives you the right to use show your fear through verbal abuse to others.

It just didn't go the way you hoped maybe ?

"When I go to supermarket I wear mask fitted with two carbon filters and an acrylic face shield which are very deterrent. Other people think that I'm infected and they don't come close to me " Yesterday as I reached to a top shelf. Someone stood right next to me and said with a giggle, 'I'm gonna push you out of the way now.' ..... It was a shop assistant who wanted to put a few things on the top of the shelf. I'll leave it to you all to imagine, or guess, or say what my reaction was.

"Have some respect for the elderly Some elderly are just horrible bastards tho" I have nooooo idea why but I laughed so much at the honesty of this statement. I think we need to respect that elderly people MAY be slower in thought and movement but other than that I prefer the company of people who don't treat the elderly like lost children. I see it every day and im beginning to have it done to me. In thought i'm ruder than the O.P. to people who patronise age. In deed I keep my self respect and soldier on ...... I'm still laughing. Respect PEOPLE per se.... be aware of every need including emotional/mental states which are invisible.

"Had a similar experience but the other way round sort of? Happily following the arrows making my way up and down the isles, gets to the garden sprays and stops to look for some ant stuff that is pet and wild life friendly they had none, so i went to move on, A lady had appeared in front of me already closer than 2 metres, i took one step forward still in a world of ant sprays and all i heard was a shriek of 2 METERS! I did calmly say you have stood in front of me and i need to go around you. You could of gone back and down the other isle or say excuse me, she replied? I could see she was a bit of a cat lady ( nothing wrong with that the mrs is a bit of a cat lady) so i just walked off and mumbled, why JHC there may of been a F in there too, all i heard in reply was Don't swear ! i didn't think i had? " Don't be insulting when you're telling a story

"Shocking behaviour op. Could have held up your hand and in a stern voice not shouting asking her to stop and respect social distance and wait for you to finish getting what you want then thank her for being understanding and patience. " This is why I won’t let my Dad go shopping as I’d be worried that this would happen to him , he just wouldn’t “get” the social distancing aspect.

" heat of moment an wen u see then running towards u u do swear

"That moment when you post something on a FAB forum and then immediately realise: 1) it was irrelevant and nobody cares 2) you’ve acted in a manner that goes against everything we teach our children 3) your behaviour was totally regrettable 4) you’re not man enough to apologise for it I Hope you feel proud of yourself, for probably shattering that ladies confidence, at a time when what she needed was someone to literally out their arm around her. Have a think about what that means. Have a great life and try to do something or say something positive for someone today. " 4) you’re not man enough to apologise for it You may want to take that back, they did apologise see above.

And I probably should I have said “human enough”, rather than “man enough”, so as not to genderise.

Agree totally with your other points though, about their initial reaction

"Believe me if I could apologise to the lady I would but unless I see her again doubt I will ever be able to put that right" Fair play to you, OP. These are tough times and we are all doing our best - sometimes we all fall a little short (just ask my children!). Good day to you and stay safe - keep calm and carry on, as they say

Think the whole shop heard me shout f*** off you stupid woman the nearest shop assistant glared at her and the women glared at me daggers gggrrr Take a step back. Why did you need to share this? Yes, I guess you felt disturbed, and scared, and angry. What made you imagine we needed to know about it?" I don't think the OP was bragging about it as there's nothing to brag about in telling someone to "Fuck off." I think it more the case that they were having a rant, in time-honoured fashion. The original misdemeanor is all the more remarkable due to it being an old biddy carrying it out; aside from her being theoretically more at risk than the OP from the COVID the stereotype of old people taking all the time in the world to do things such as shop exists for a reason; it is normally the younger adults amongst us who see a grocery shop as "get in, shop rapid, get out and enjoy our precious free time". It is possible that she may have been suffering from dementia or at the very least confused by this crazy world of today. It is also possible that she was just an uncaring thoughtless meff. But whilst that doubt exists I'd certainly refrain from telling her to fuck off as it achieves nothing; if she's confused she won't know what she's being told to fuck off for, if she's just a meff then she's likely to pay it little heed. What I would be inclined to do is use my trolley as a barrier if possible to repel any impulsive sorts steaming towards me; they can't walk through it! And alert the shop assistants of course, though it seems the OP actually did that. B

Sometimes it would be acceptable to verbally abuse someone. If the old lady had covid19 and the op got infected. Would that make you happy? I’m sure the people condemning op”s behaviour would welcome someone invading their personal space in the current situation. Old woman or not. Surely she could of waited a few seconds or asked if they could let her grab something?
