We are all being extremely thankful to the NHS and rightfully so but don't we need to give thanks to all the others keeping the country running binmen (and ladies no sexism here) supermarket workers even people working at TV studios keeping us entertained etc etc all these people are putting themselves at risk for the good of the country

couple, us we him her.

Well it's a difficult one but ultimately this is a very strange situation and I'm sure everyone who is working and doing there bit for the war effort deserves thanks.

I'm only a carpenter doing emergency repairs but I have to go into nursing homes with infected residents.

Does this make me a hero??

Nope far from it and I certainly not fishing for compliments but if someone was to thank me it would certainly make me feel a bit better putting myself in harm's way.

However what I'm doing pales into insignificance compared to NHS frontline staff.

But I certainly appreciate that everyone is doing their bit particularly those whose jobs mean social distancing is virtually impossible.

Do U not have enough appreciation to share with both the NHS AND the people stacking the shelves and emptying bins ? Just because someone is being paid it doesn’t negate the risk they are taking. I appreciate EVERYONE still working, if not only for services they do that benefit the greater good then also for keeping some part of our economy going

Agree completely, a lot of people dont appreciate how many people are still working, not everyone in the UK works in leisure or retail.

All they seem to do is comment on "look at how many cars are out and about, not following lockdown"

I'm still working (more hours now than pre covid) on a salary, so no extra money. Am I complaining? No I'm getting on with it. I'm worried as I have to go into environments where the disease is prevalent, but not in the front line like NHS doctors, nurses and carers.

I have respect for EVERYONE who is still working, thursday nights at 8pm I clap for everyone still working.

Youd find yourself in a lot worse situation if bins werent being emptied and of course they are at risk from all the bins they are in contact with as not everyone will wipe the handles or wear gloves when taking them out. You sound a little bitter and if you're one that's at home, I can understand it's not easy but in turn, you're doing your bit too so thank you for that from me.

The jigsaw will never be complete without even the smallest part.

I work in the food production industry , the production workers and lines couldn't run without the team I am currently working with and our company supply food items that most people will buy every week throughout the UK and they all come from the one factory.

I don't see myself as anything special but I do feel very fortunate to have been able to get a job so quickly there after being made redundant from my previous employer and that it's classed as essential and will not be closing down so guaranteeing everyones jobs there.

Social distancing at work is nigh on impossible so yeah we're all taking a risk, we are needed because people want our products and we all want employment.

I'd never class myself as anything comparable to front line NHS workers though but just thankful I'm needed at my place of work.

I must declare an interest as I work in the sector but one particular group that rarely gets mentioned are the utilities workers. None of this would be possible without gas, electricity, water and phone lines!

My opinion is no it’s not a popular opinion but it’s mine I didn’t appreciate them before and I don’t now to be completely honest and I stand by my original post if that makes me unpopular or as one commented disgusting I don’t care what they think that’s their opinion btw if you do send me a pm please give me the chance to reply before you block me

I’m a truck driver some of our jobs are essential some not

But to do the essential jobs the company has to keep us going to be on hand when needed

Essential is delivering to emergency hospitals to eve delivering artic loads of body bags,

It’s just another job to us nothing special

We are both Healthcare workers and L gets her PPE on each day and looks after terminllay I'll patients. Covid 19 and not. It is so sad that healthcare workers have lost their lives to Covid 19. But so we believe have bus drivers in London.

The NHS is under intense strain at the moment and healthcare workers are going above and beyond daily. But we couldn't get on with things if it wasn't for the shop workers and bin men and so on.

Proud to be part of the health care staff on the front line but so grateful and appreciative of all others who are working.

It's not easy for anyone and we applauded all of those who are keeping things ticking over.

Everyone forgets us. Without us you would be up to your tits in shit in around a day. Also everything that leaves a human body, including viruses, will end up at a waste water treatment facility. So fuck you! "

The difference is a lot of these additional key workers are having to put them selfs and their family they live with in additional risk because they provide a service that the country needs right now. And doing their job exposes them to more risk.

So it's not like they are just doing their normal jobs. On top of that some workers are having to do a lot more for no extra money or help, due to increased absences. For example electricity control room staff have had to be kept isolated away from their families in cabins because they can't afford for them to be ill.

If your one of the ones out of work with no compensation then I can understand your frustration but thanks for people isn't finite. You can be thankful to all the key workers, because no matter how shit things are now for you. Without the shelf stackers, drivers, infrastructure workers, food workers, and any other workers putting them selfs in increased danger right now things would be a whole lot shitter.

And just try to comprehend the idea that some of the hundreds of deaths reported daily are very likely all the unappreciated workers who contracted the virus by travelling to work, having customers being ignorant to measures put in place for everyone's safety, transporting key workers to the work place and in some situations wish their bosses would send them home to be safe like most of the country.

To all those still going to work I appreciate you and will clap until my hands bleed for all of you if we arrange it.

If your doing the work of two people then I presume it is taking you twice as long therefore surely the over time means you are on double money ? What’s not to love ?

So in the same length working day you have discovered you are able to do the work of 2 people rather than one. Hmmm this must be a revelation for your employer.

He’s discovered that he has double the work force needed. In that case you should be thankful you were in the 50% NOT furloughed as I would imagine there’s no need to have the other 50% back if you are able to do the work of 2 people in the same working hours. Begs the question mind, what on earth were u doing with your time at work before he sent half of the team home ?

Maybe they should refuse to work but they'd get the sack and they would deserve it. There might be an elevated risk of catching covid-19 but is it really that dangerous?

I think comparing supermarket staff to front line NHS workers looking after covid-19 patients is extremely unfair. It really shows how little grasp you have of their risks..

what are u on about? the bloke was saying only the nhs should be clapped not shop workers or bin mae or any others workers as they getting paid to work.i pointed out they getti.g paid in the nhs aswell for doing there job same way everyone else working is getting paid.znd not dangerous haha my ex is coming into contact with hundreds of people a day no protective clothing no masks no visors so yea all thise workers are putting themselves in harms way.perhaps they should all refuse to work.pretty sure peeps might get shitty wen rubbish starts piling up and no one can eat.or do you have a 3month supply of food and bog paper?

We're only getting done what we can get done but the customer is being charged full price we are not doing the full job sooner or later they'll realise we are not doing what the contract says I'll be quite happy being furloughed on 80%

Be careful what you wish for. When the furlough ends you may find a lot of your work colleagues never return to work. Guess that’s benefit Britain for you. People would rather be sat on their arses claiming a government hand out rather than do a hard days work for fair remuneration.

please read my original post I never mentioned anything about clapping I can show my appreciation in other ways
